Arguably the second best performer against West Ham and not one word on Oscar?

I've been critical of him but to give him his due, at least for this game, he was superb. His workrate, intensity, commitment were all spot on today. He was crucial in helping us to dominate West Ham.

His second half performance was actually very good. This is the sort of role he should've been used in a long time ago. Dude is definitely a B2B midfielder and not a number 10.

That depends. If you're looking to dominate teams in the sense of running the game and dictating the play, then Fabregas is your man. But if you're looking to dominate teams in the physical aspect, then you go to Oscar. Today might not be a game suited for Fabregas but there will be some where he'll be needed, like against Burnley, Hull etc. Remember how we went from bad at breaking defensive teams down in 13/14 to tearing up those same sides in 14/15 with Fabregas in the side?

I thought Oscar played well tonight.  He wasn't amazing or a match winner, but he was Solid, I thought.  A couple of cheeky passes, a couple that didn't come of either.  But, I like his deeper role.

I agree that he did well but I'd put it differently and say that he did as well as he's able to.

I felt tonight encapslated our problem with Oscar. At one and the same time he is not good enough to play that role in our midfiied and yet he remains the best fit we have for that role in our midfield.

One slight disagreement; he was still he most advanced of our midfield. When the debate was raging about whether it should be Oscar or Willian occupying the most advanced position of the midfeld three, i argued for Oscar. For me, although Willian always looks better because he carries the ball better, it is Oscar who is more likely to get things done. He lacks the technique to produce the dominnt string-pulling displays but, his tricks and flicks oftn turn out to be the most productive thing we get from people in that role.

I don't remember the Willian/Oscar debate.  But, I'd agree with you.  Willian isn't all that in the final 3rd.  

Oscar gets a lot of stick here.  And I don't love him either.  He has his moments, just never 3 in a row.  But, if he was our #1 issue, we'd be real title contenders.  Need half a back line first.

I guess I stick up for him a lot because I see a lot of "pay team X to take him" and stuff of that nature.  It's something I don't really like in football.  Everyone wants the really good players to be loyal, but if they "aren't good enough", it's get rid of him, he's useless, etc. etc.  If Madrid came for Hazard next summer and he said he wanted to go, everyone would be calling him Judas and that he's a mercenary.  Then turn around and tell someone else to do one because they aren't good enough.  Just don't like it.

I watched some of it, not all, and then he was subbed. But then I caught a replay and I thought he did well (didn't watch the whole replay).

I'm just not going to be hopeful. He covered the most distance in the team after Matic and he was working very hard and there was that quick/deep pass to Willian, that led to Adrian's save in the second half. But that's it, committed, a couple of good attacking passes... it's too little, but still better than he did last season. Let's see if there's a possibility that Conte will remove him from his comfort zone (which I think is his problem, he's totally okay with being mediocre), I won't hold my breath though

He did well but I am certainly not getting ahead of myself, we have seen this honeymoon period before with him and others. Needs to convince me and others over a season and not one game.

For me it's looking quite obvious that Conte will use a midfield three at Chelsea, no matter it's 3-5-2, 3-5-1-1, 4-3-3 etc. At first I was pretty sure he'll go for 4-4-2/4-2-4, but now I have my doubts. Mostly because of Cesc. I think it would be suicidal to go into next season with a midfield two consisting of Cesc and other midfielder. Even if the other midfielder is a box to box monster that can run all day. I simply cannot see Cesc working in a midfield two formation.

Now back to my point -Conte had a pretty decent midfielder in his provisional squad, Jorginho, but opted to send him back home at the expense of Giaccherini. I know they are not the same type of player, but I bet that 9 out of 10 managers would have Jorginho over Giaccherini any given day. 

Thing is Conte likes his midfield three to be composed of one regista (De Rossi) that sits deep and two other midfielders with a good engine that can make forward runs, work the channels and go into the box everytime his team goes forward (Giaccherini, Parolo, Florenzi). 

Oscar is similar to Giaccherini in my view. Energetic midfielder that can run like a rabid dog and cover every blade of the pitch. Plus he goes forward, shoots from outside the box, goes into the box. Really think he is the type of midfielder that Conte prefers.

Oscar did well, always felt he would do better away from a #10 role. He's a jack of all trades and master of none so put him in a position where that works best. Still has a ways to go but its a good start for him.

Oscar is much better for us when he accepts his role as a system player instead of trying to be one of the stars for this team. 

On another note, I have no idea why he requested to take the penalty vs West Ham instead of Hazard (who I believe is now back on penalty duties).

Ive never doubted his work rate, hes like my Jack Russell dog and runs all over the bloody place after the ball,and he is great for us at top third defence. And nobody can doubt that he has given moments of sheer genius.

But the problem is the polar bear blood hes got running thru him. Cause come January hes hibernating.
