Shaw got so much potential but for such a young kid picks up far too injuries which might be a continuous problem when he gets older. Reminds me of Ledley King. Hope it does not affect his career but picks up injuries quite easily.

Indeed. I mentioned that before in this thread. He does seem to be getting a lot of little niggling injuries though, the same thing happened to Bale when he was younger.

Ledley Kind had a degenerative knee condition ,not a pulled muscle . Strange comparison as a 18 year old has not fully developed yet and would be expected to pick up muscle injuries, very few 18 year olds play every game in top divisions.

To me Luke Shaw is overrated due to his potential. In fact potential can never be taken as ability at any age. Surely Luke is much more muture than his peers and he is quite a good LB. No wonder his potential is so high that the media is too eager to think twice before they salute him as the future star. Of course he has the potential to be everything if he continues to develop quickly. But this is not granted and his recent frequent injury seemingly indicates that his future is not so certain.

I am not entirely against buying him but I seriously doubt his value. Such a player who is mature comparatively in his age is not so sure to be a star in the future. Many of this kind may stop developing or develop very slowly or just get destroyed by injuries. Hence I would say it is highly risky to buy him by a price over 20M. However, an offer below 20M probably will not impress Southampton. Thus, I am not quite optimistic in this deal. I hope the club can find some other gifted and briliant LB just like they found Azpilicueta.

Agreed, with him being a freak athlete for his position and with him playing a lot he's expected to get injured especially when he's not fully developed yet. The niggles will stop in a year or two.

He has had to sit out many games because of injuries and that is a worry for me. He has more than once this season had to been subbed off during the match because he has picked up knocks/injuries. Look at Sterling for instance. Same age bracket but is rarely injured. He got a minor injury towards the end of last season but there was times that they were playing him like 90 mins every game and he was able to play on. Shaw picks up far too much injuries which is a shame and I don't think you can link that to his age.

You cant link it to a degenarative terminal injury either, as Ledley King had he was basically a cripple. Shaw is picking up the odd muscle strain ,nothing serious and to be expected for someone of that age . To compare him with King is ridiculous in the extreme. It was probably the same injury that he had not fully recovered from and I doubt there are any long term issues as with Ledley King .

Southampton are reportedly ready to trade Luke Shaw for Chelsea’s Ryan Bertrand this summer. (Sunday People)

A back-four for the future, Azpi - Luiz - Zouma - Shaw looks sweet on the paper.

Did John Terry die or retire?

Been arguably our best player this season.

JT will surely have his contract extended on this form. Don't see him leaving any time soon.

Even though Terry has been playing well this season, he can't go on forever. And like has been said, Namika wrote 'future', which can be 3, 4, 5 years down the road from now. I doubt Terry will still be a starter for us by that time, even if he stays with us till then.

Trade? Southampton don't rate Shaw as much as I thought then

Or maybe they just want a replacement for him and if they can get a LB - that is not favored by Mourinho - from us through a trade, then at least it might soften the blow of losing Shaw. Bertrand might not be a talented LB but he is reliable and solid enough to perform consistently.
