LDN Blue 7,903
I can't honestly believe people are defending Hazard. Whether he kicked the lad or the ball is totally irrelevant, it was a reckless thing to do and he deserves to have the book thrown at him. Regardless of whether it was pre-empted by the lad or not, the right thing to do is complain to the referee or the linesman. The official would then take the time-wasting into account and eject the ballboy. You don't kick a player when he is on the floor and lying on the ball, so you certainly don't kick a young lad who is lying on top of the ball either.I really don't care whether people have a go at me for my opinion on this matter, but you simply cannot do that. Hazard deserves the hate for his idiocy; Benitez deserves the fault for his negative tactics, piss-poor team selection and motivation skills; Ivanovic needs a slap for his two errors in the first leg; but the lad deserves none of it. If it was the opposite way round and a Stamford Bridge ballboy did that, we'd be praising him and baying for the blood of the offending player. Hazard has no defence in my eyes and his actions warrant the 3-5 game ban heading his way.Thank you, a bit of unbiased truth.
Superblue 6,372
He should have known better but let's me honest this doesn't warrant anything more than the usual 3 game ban.My biggest worry is with the media circus in this country and the obvious difference in rules between (i) Chelsea, (ii) Man Utd and (iii) the rest of the league, the FA will find some form of ridiculously inflated ban for him. BlueLion. 21,491
Michael Owen has the right of it - there was no intent to hurt the lad, but what is done is done. You can all defend Hazard if you like, but such incredible naivety is truly embarrassing! Rmpr and Stingray

How the fuck else is he supposed to get the ball when the kid's lying on it?You might say he should've told the ref and then sat down after the match and written a strongly-worded letter to the FA, but he was trying to get on with the game so in your rush to condemn him, maybe try and see it from all sides.Eden will get a ban but that little kid deserves everything coming his way too. SinineUltra 1,170
All the signs are against Hazard, he took the bait and the ball boy acted his part well, bravo.. Though you can clearly see that he kicked the ball... Hazard will get a long ban, but I don't blame him, heat of the moment action. We post stuff that we will look back on and think what was I thinking..@AlexI agree that it was foolish of him to actually start wrestling for the ball, but I stand behind Hazard bcs he has a legit ground for appeal, he did actually kick the ball and you can see it from the reply. Superblue 6,372
Owen's got it right. He's bang on! Hazard is in the wrong, just accept his red card and mandatory 3 game ban and learn from it in the future. But the ball boy 'instigating the situation and then cry foul for next to nothing' is spot on. You'll seriously have people compare this to Cantona I bet and push for him to be banned for the rest of the season.I wouldn't even be surprised if somebody makes a complaint to the police for GBH! err 19
obviously some extenuating circumstances and as I read the ball boy knew what he was doing (tweets) but still he will get a mount of matches ... I fear he is burnt now ,this will haunt him in PL at least. I expect all fans to boo him from now on, in all english stadiums even with apologies .. only one reaction can ruin a lot of things. ask zidane...;|
