Hulk isn't a "reserve" player for Brazil. Hulk has been the best player in Portugal for several years now.

That's what you're missing.

Several years? Try two. three years ago, he had 5 goals. The players of the year in the Portuguese league before Hulk were David Luiz, Bruno Alves, Lisandro Lopez, Simao Sabrosa, and Quaersma and not a single one of the those players is remotely close to being a top-level talent right now so dominating the Portuguese league is hardly a sign of great things to come. It doesn't mean Hulk couldn't be a great player at Chelsea, it just means that paying huge bucks for a player with this little experience against top clubs (and being 26 and not 21) is a massive risk. It's also annoying because it's as if Chelsea don't understand how negotiations work. Chelsea need someone who can score goals. There are dozens of options for them. Instead of saying "let's find the best talent at value", they say "let's get Hulk no matter what" and so will inevitably overpay for him which means there will be extra pressure on him and virtually no chance that he will be good value. It's the same situation with Torres. Instead of saying "we need to replace Drogba so let's find a striker who can do that" Chelsea said "we want Torres" and ridiculously overpaid for him. Chelsea should have had an evaluation on Hulk of around £20-25M and maybe if they really liked him, going up to £30M. David Silva was £24M. Mata was £23.5M and both were more established, played in a better league, and were younger. If Porto wants more, then say "thanks, but no thanks" and go and buy someone who is a better value.

You think Hulk was better than Falcao when he was playing in Portugal? I think your wrong!

um most rate Hulk higher, not only he basically scored the same amount of goals but he was also responsible for providing half of Falcao goals.

Falcao is a great goal scorer, but Hulk can do much more then just score goals. He can create for others and contribute more to team plays.

While you do make a valid point, the players you've listed above weren't as dominant as Hulk in the portuguese league. Lisandro Lopez, the only striker in that list, has been outscored by Hulk, who plays wide. None of those players had the impact Hulk had, if you add all goals and assists of each player you'll find Hulk will be on top by quite a distance.

David Luiz in my opinion does have the potential to be a top class talent, so there's another player I wouldn't include in your list. There's a reason why he's been linked with Barcelona.

Definitely agree with you on the huge bucks bit, but tell me, who else is available at a decent price that is as good as Hulk?

You say Chelsea need someone that scores goals, I say Chelsea need someone class in that gaping right sided spot of attack. Who else better than Hulk? Hulk provides a goal threat, provided assists, pace, power.... Exactly what we need in my opinion.

I don't think you can compare the Mata and David Silva deals to the potential Hulk one at all. It's well documented that Valencia had financial problems and therefore sold their star players at a cut-price. If Valencia weren't so financially stricken, you'd surely see someone like Silva go for around £40m+ IMO.

Compare it to Porto, who've made nearly a billion over the last decade from selling players. They're financially well run and have no obligation to sell Hulk. They can charge whatever they want.

I'm not saying I want Hulk here for £50m but I think in today's financial climate, there's not much wrong with the £35m-£38m price tag we've heard about. The market is inflated, nothing CFC can do about that. We can either go into the season with a very weak right side or go into season paying a little bit extra with a phenomenonal attack. That's how I see it.

I think recent Chelsea purchases have been very decent (perhaps bar Torres), especially under Gourlay and Emelano, so it's unfair to chastise the board over that.

From what I read Ancelotti was the one who demanded Torres, and Roman then personally acquired him. But that's another discussion for another time. Don't want to go off topic.

Personally I'm quite happy Hulk isn't rated that highly. If we do get him at a decent price we'll definitely have a gem of a player on our hands, he'll justify his price if it's around £35m. He'll surprise many.

£35m-£38m is insane. It'd make Hulk one of the highest transfers ever for a player that has never played at a high level. For that price, Hulk has to be scoring 20 goals a year for years. That's the same value as players like Aguero and David Villa who were established stars in Spain for years. As for Hulk's dominance, he actually only scored 9 goals last season during play. He had 7 penalties. Also, whoever Porto makes as their main striking option (and Hulk may have played RW, but he easily led Porto in shot attempts.) will always dominate. Hulk, Falcao, Lisandro Lopez and I guarantee whoever they replace Hulk with will be dominant as well.

I have no idea why everyone so adamant that we need a RW. If we play in a 4-3-3, Sturridge is excellent in that system. He was our second best player under AVB. No, he's not a good passer, but we have Lampard, Mata and Hazard to set-up play. You don't need five creative players. If we play a 4-2-3-1, Ramires was very good on the right. Marin could act as cover for both We have Hazard and Mata as creative players. Our biggest weakness last season was our poor form from our strikers. Torres and Drogba combined for 11 goals in the league. You need a number 9 who can score regularly and we don't have that.

Also, just because Valencia has/had financial problems, doesn't mean they sold their players on the cheap. Don't you think other teams were interested in Mata and Valencia? There isn't a team in the world that wouldn't love to have those guys. It's not like Chelsea came by and low-balled Valencia for Mata. he was a 23.5M buy. As for who else is available for cheap? I don't know, but there are lots of clubs in financial trouble now. If it's so easy to raid those clubs, why don't we go for that again?

I think it's unfair to discriminate against a player just because they're playing in a weaker league. Hulk is class in my opinion, in an ideal market he would be worth £25m, but the market is inflated.

Hulk actually scored 21 goals all together last season whilst also assisting 15. That's an overall direct contribution to 36 goals in a team that scored 79 goals this season, that's just under half (45%) of the goals Hulk has contributed to. If you are looking for goals in a team that is going after 7 trophies, you don't only place the burden on your number 9. It's a team responsibility to score goals. It's why I think Hulk is ideal for us.

Everyone is adamant we need a RW because Sturridge doesn't want to play there, and Ramires isn't a natural winger. We have no recognised RW in the squad at the moment, and I believe it's suicidal to keep filling up round holes with square pegs.

Yes, our biggest weakness last season was our lack of goals from our front men but the issue to me was more down to the team dynamic than anything. We didn't create enough for our number 9's.

I'd love to go into the season with Sturridge, Torres and Hulk as our strikers simply due to the fact that I believe Sturridge can be a more than adequate back up. Sturridge has the potential to be a great striker for us in my opinion, it's not a surprise he out scored our "world class" strikers in the league whilst he was playing in an unnatural position. Torres and Sturridge vying for that number one striker spot makes sense to me. He's good enough to topple Torres from that number one spot IMO. Have a look at this video

Even though it's a reserve game, you can't deny the kid has natural talent up front. It's why I believe going in with Torres and Sturridge is fine. Especially if we've got Hazard, Mata and Hulk as the supporting cast. We don't need another striker. My opinion though.

Also regarding the Valencia situation, it is well documentaries that they had a huge debt and needed to sell their assets off. It's why they sold Silva and Villa in the same season at a somewhat undervalued price. If Valencia were in a healthier situation they could've got loads more for Silva or Villa. Regarding Mata I shouldn't have used his example really as they were a bit more stabilised when we made an offer for him.

Get Hulk in and sort a swap deal with Torres and Falcao swapping. Job done!

Simples.. This way we won't feel as if we have lost out in buying Torres!

I totally agree that Sturridge can be a danger man for us. I've been telling people this for a LONG time. He just need a little more game time than he gets now and the bloke will do wonders for us!

how is hulk not needed... who do you want on the right wing??? sturridge doesnt like to play there, torres cant.... leaves you with kalou... putting mata on the right but he doesnt even like playing on the left... ramires likes to be more central... Hulk is great for the role, and provides back up for fernando.... If roman wants to spend 40 mil on hulk then thats fine with me... i wont be saying well he has done well but his goals per mil wasnt as good as x, y, or z... providing it doesnt cause any effects to the club in terms of FFP etc, or debt that we cant deal with etc, then im not really that worried about the prcetag... if roman wants to spend it then who am i to argue... will chelsea be better with hulk???? yes... - sounds good to me...
