Maybe because it took effect now and half a season has been played already? Maybe they prefer it to expire in summer.

No, I get that. What I meant is the number of years. Forget the 'half year'. :P Usually in such cases, we go for 5-and-a-half-year contract, no? Barkley, for instance, got the 5-and-a-half-year contract when he joined. But only 4 for Christensen? Peculiar.
