Kevin de Bruyne

Arsenal have a buyback clause for Fabregas.

Not really. They have first-option clause if Barcelona look to sell Fabergas which is a massive difference. (And for a team like Barcelona, who aren't a selling club with Fabergas being from there, it's a clause that will only be used if things go really bad.) If we tried to insert a buyback clause or a first-refusal clause to a sale in this situation, it would greatly reduce what we could get for De Bruyne.Ffans have a tendency to have a singular view of sales and loans, but there needs to be a benefit for both clubs or nothing happens. Buy-back clauses are extremely rare for a reason. It's pretty difficult to envision any future where De Bruyne plays a big part for Chelsea in the next few years. We have a whole bunch of attacking midfielders who are all young, ahead of him on the depth chart and De Bruyne is never going to be a Mourinho sort of player. Just sell him for maximum profit and move on.

There is no such a thing as buyback when it comes to footballers, at least I do not know of any.

Perhaps, you may help us here ?

Carvajal Real Madrid for example. Negredo also had one. Parejo etc etc. Real Madrid often sells their players with a buy-back clause. Its often done in Spain. Cant remember one player with a buy-back clause in England though.

Barca dont have a buy-back clause for Fabregas. They have a first-option clause, means, that if Barca wants to sell Cesc, Arsenal has the priority to buy him and if anyone makes a bid for Fabregas, Arsenal has to be informed about it and if they match this valuation, Barca needs to sell him to Arsenal (if he wants to go to Arsenal)

Listening to Jose in that press conference I think I could sense a bit of reluctance to sell Kevin in his voice and tone. I think he feels like some of us here do, that he will go on to become a very good player and we'll probably regret selling him.

If it weren't for the fact that Kevin wants to leave really badly I think we'd be keeping him for sure. Like Jose said though, it's such a large profit on a player that surplus to our needs that we can't really turn it down since the player wants the move so badly.
