Ah, I see Man United have done the old "let's brief a bunch of journo's to pressure the selling club" trick. They're trying to scare Dortmund into lowering their demands or else they'll miss out on a huge fee.

This'll be done within a couple of days. United will pay up.

Is Sancho desperate to leave Dortmund this summer? Last I read he is fine with staying for another season at least, although that was some time back. If that hasn't changed, then United really have no legs to stand on here. Dortmund have all the advantage.

Also, has anyone noticed a certain big Premier League club has been rather quiet in the transfer market, so far at least? That club is playing with fire for next season...

I don't think he was initially. But if reports are to be believed United are offering him an absolutely absurd salary (something like €18m per year) so he probably really wants to go now.

Like Havertz, though, if he stays at his club for 1 more season he'll probably have several other great options. This is why it's absolutely imperative that ourselves and United get these deals done this summer because our chances fall wayyyy down if we wait.

According to The Athletic, United are "determined to retain a disciplined wage structure to maintain a cohesive, happy squad". So...

Yep, exact same thing happened with Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire last season. In the end United ended up paying the full asking price anyway, this is just another case of them trying to flex their muscles.

Don't think Dortmund will go lower on the asking price. They've been clear about it for a long time.

This is how you know this big briefing came directly from United. They're desperate to prevent another Alexis situation where the whole club is destabilized by them giving him galactic wages. They want to soften the headlines and keep Sancho's wages on the downlow.

Quite amusing how many think Liverpool will steam roll it again.

They dont need much in all fairness. If they can keep the majority of the big hitters fit and playing  in 90% of the games they still will be top 2 easily. 

They lack a top creative midfield player and a couple squad players maybe but what about if Klopp plays youngsters instead to replace the likes of Lovren and Lallana? They've sold Lovren but the likes of van der Berg and Hoever can both play at CB and are both highly rated u18 Dutch internationals and Lallana again I mean his contribution last season was near non existent so a youngster can surely use up those minutes 100%. I mean weve all just spent a season lauding our manager for dumping David Luiz out the squad for Tomori, Luiz is a better CB than Lovren. 

Maybe they should of pushed for Werner more, I thought he would of been their top target, as they need a better CF/wide forward to back/rotate/compete with those guys maybe. Have no doubts he’d of played regularly there unlike what the likes of that crackhead Robbie Fowler and John Barnes came out saying after we got him.

If they get Thiago in midfield, who would fit in at any club in the PL and improve them as well as a good back up CF/winger, they are still gonna be right up there. I still fancy City to do it this year but I dont think anybody will break that City and Liverpool top 2 next season but the gap will hopefully be closer or at least the gap between us and wherever.

They will be placed right up there by pundits, journalists etc next season because they are the champions and all that but whether they can produce another season like this or even last season remains to be seen.

Thats true and it is hard to see teams retaining titles unless they invest heavily but they realistically cannot improve their first 11 bar in MF with someone a bit more creative imo. Its just depth they need maybe, more at LB, CF and wide perhaps but finding good squad players who are willing to be squad players is difficult.

Klopp is gonna have to refresh that XI sooner or later. Salah and Mane turn 29 and Firmino turn 30 next year. Henderson is already 30, Milner is 34 and can't be viable backup for much longer. The likes of Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlain are hit-and-miss, Minamino hasn't convinced, Origi only good as sub.

But they also beat Barcelona without salah and firmino. The klopp factor can not be denied. Instead of tinkering around they have a functioning system that works with interchanging players. If they really need to win the game, they can always rely on the ref as well.

Still, i think City are big favourites for the title next season. They had a lot of weird slip-ups like vs Norwich but if they get in their groove again they will be unstoppable. They will buy a WC defender and shut up shop back there. They will go out with something to prove and relentlessly outscore teams like 2017-2019

They still have such ridiculous quality that they'll easily steamroll the little guys. But if City/United/Chelsea/Arse/Spuds all improve considerably then they'll find it much harder.

That they did but it was one game and Barcelona were/are horrible. Can they do it without them over a course of the season?

The Klopp factor is big but that will only work for so long, like we saw with Dortmund.

Maybe but then again, Man City did contrive to lose to Norwich, drop points against Crystal Palace and Newcastle. Their record against the Top 7 wasn't the best either.
