Barcelona - despite already having the best midfield in the world with Iniesta-Busquets-Xavi - bought another world-class midfielder in Fabregas, while us - who have a midfield in a deep mess - just have bought a good squad player. This fact means a lot.Everyone knows that Meireles wasn't the type of player we were looking for, but that's besides the point. The point is that TX has unnecessarily singled out the moment we signed Meireles as the worst moment this season when it was either that or 50+ starts for Lampard. Blue Armour 4,439 Posted December 22, 2011 Share Posted December 22, 2011 I understand what TX is trying to say here...No disrespect to Raul..he's done a pretty decent job after arriving here but that job is what Lampard used to do (and did it even better) when he was in good form..namely the goal scoring runs into the box and spraying passes effortlessly,..Modric might have well been the missing piece of our midfield puzzle....Its not really the club's or AVB's fault that we didn't get him..Its just unfortunate, considering the dumb spuds regularly bend over for Man Utd when they come along for new players... Though, if you want to take a picture to summarize our season, the purchase of Meireles instead of Modric would be a good choice. Because it says it all. We have passed from a major club to a club battling for a mere Champions League spot. So imo, yes it is a key moment to our season, maybe not the 'worst', but certainly a bad moment - and I say this without disrespecting Meireles, it isn't his fault. Meireles is a good squad player, I think most of us can agree he hasnn't got the flair or creativity to sustain himself in the first XI. And @ Peace, I understand what you saying, he isn't a magical player and was never meant to be. I think that's why we know after we get another midfielder, or when Piazon or Mceachran find their feet, or when we get a winger and Mata takes the role ,he should really be a guaranteed squad player. Not sure if him and Romeu should really play together, it's like having Mikel and Essien together which never worked when we were good.I wish he'd stop shooting from ridiculous positions though, especially in the Villa game, dunno what he was doing. It's not his fault he's being forced to be our creative spark, that was due to inefficiencies at the club when it came to having one target in Modric to be that player.
