Behave.

Disrespectful to Meireles. I could understand if he had performed as bad as someone like Torres has but he's been one of our most consistent performers this season. I guess this shows the attitude of certain fans at the club if this is your worst moment of the season. It seems some players just can't do anything right because they aren't bought for a ridiculous price. Spoilt fans. Would you rather the club not sign anyone and we're left in a bad position as we havnt got enough players in midfield? I'm glad we "settled for what was merely available" cause for me he has been a good signing & a useful player.

He's a troll, don't bite.

Irrelevant, it's not the 'price' (as you suggest) it's the caliber of the player, Modric was AVB's number 1 transfer target. He was exactly what we needed.. and still is. The two players are a class apart, it's signings like these that separate the top clubs.

I am agree with TX there. Barcelona - despite already having the best midfield in the world with Iniesta-Busquets-Xavi - bought another world-class midfielder in Fabregas, while us - who have a midfield in a deep mess - just have bought a good squad player. This fact means a lot.

No, its not. Judging by this logic maybe we should splash 500m per player on CR7, Messi, Iniesta and co just because they're what we need? Sometimes targets can't be achieved and you need to go for the next best thing instead.

So please, entertain me. What would you do in AVBs case if he wanted Modric but Spurs demanded 90m?

But wait! You also think the price is irrelevant! Maybe at CFC, maybe in the past, but with FFP rules coming thick and fast, we can't afford to buy expensive players like him or Torres every transfer window.

Ps, it's cute that you think a forum join date validates anything, you silly, silly troll :3

Everyone knows that Meireles wasn't the type of player we were looking for, but that's besides the point. The point is that TX has unnecessarily singled out the moment we signed Meireles as the worst moment this season when it was either that or 50+ starts for Lampard. And it's pretty disrespectful, too, like Kez said.

I understand what TX is trying to say here...

No disrespect to Raul..he's done a pretty decent job after arriving here but that job is what Lampard used to do (and did it even better) when he was in good form..namely the goal scoring runs into the box and spraying passes effortlessly,..

Modric might have well been the missing piece of our midfield puzzle....Its not really the club's or AVB's fault that we didn't get him..Its just unfortunate, considering the dumb spuds regularly bend over for Man Utd when they come along for new players...

I'll accord you that TX's words might have been a bit to strong. Though, if you want to take a picture to summarize our season, the purchase of Meireles instead of Modric would be a good choice. Because it says it all. We have passed from a major club to a club battling for a mere Champions League spot. So imo, yes it is a key moment to our season, maybe not the 'worst', but certainly a bad moment - and I say this without disrespecting Meireles, it isn't his fault.

Modric was not coming, Spuds were not budging what choice did we have?

Still he is a player of decent calibre and £12m for him is a steel when you consider that Downing, Henderson and Young (bar the 8-2 Arsenal game he has been utter shit for United) cost more.

Convinced Mereiles is a 1 year solution. A good one and at the right price. Creative midfielder, right back and winger(s) needed.

Have to agree. Meireles is a good squad player, I think most of us can agree he hasnn't got the flair or creativity to sustain himself in the first XI. And @ Peace, I understand what you saying, he isn't a magical player and was never meant to be. I think that's why we know after we get another midfielder, or when Piazon or Mceachran find their feet, or when we get a winger and Mata takes the role ,he should really be a guaranteed squad player. Just not goot enough.

He's a worker but a very good one. Not sure if him and Romeu should really play together, it's like having Mikel and Essien together which never worked when we were good.

I wish he'd stop shooting from ridiculous positions though, especially in the Villa game, dunno what he was doing. I know he can shoot but that's taking the piss. Even today on one occasion.

He's a squad player, nothing else. It's not his fault he's being forced to be our creative spark, that was due to inefficiencies at the club when it came to having one target in Modric to be that player. We were lucky to avoid Pastore. We got Mata, but by the time André realised we were still weak, it was too late.
