Truth is - there were 4 strikers at the market, Aubameyang, Morata, Lukaku and Belotti. And it turns out neither of them is great striker actually.

great striker quality is never available - you'd need to either break the bank to steal one from a top club, or find one still a bit green and develop/bet on him.

out of the bunch, we did very well considering price, age and overall technical ability. End of the day, we still play with 11 players when Morata is not scoring... Lukaku is the simplest of the bunch and perhaps (IMO) a player more suited for the PL.

The only reason why he isn't playing for us is Jose Mourinho in 2015 & our board that didn't want to throw the cash on the table (which eventually they did for Morata)! He was ditched twice by his love. Pathetic losers will keep on crying for this, the rest of their lives. I'm afraid Lukaku is the other type... the one that will come to conquer the EPL trophy at the bridge one day! 
I really lost trust in the capacities of our board!! You will see Hazard will be sold to Barcelona within a week or two.... and we're heading for a screamer of a season!!

There's zero chance United will win any championship with this guy as their main striker. Similarly, Belgium will struggle as long as he's their go-to guy up front. Simply put, he's a striker for a mid-table club, a Belgian Andy Carroll. Except Carroll can actually head the ball.

Haha that would be sooo bad. We'd have no choice but to play hoof ball because there is no point in playing to Lukaku's feet and Bakayoko can't make intricate passes.

Are you serious? Alvaro is doing really well here in his first season. He is far superior in terms of natural ability. He just needs to work on his finishing.

Deadly serious, we should be talking about how well both have done, yet both have been middle of the road and nothing more.

Alvaro needs to work on his shooting, yes, not only that, but his ability to stay on his feet may go a long way to contributing to that.

Do people still think he was a better option than Eto'o or even Ba in 13/14? Jose has made two big decision's regarding Lukaku, and thankfully he made the right one with us and the wrong one at United.

Lukaku did jack in top games. Lukaku reminds me of Costa 2nd half last season, but even worse. Can't control the ball, keeps losing the ball, can't defend, can't win headers against big teams...not to mention he only scored 1 goal in like the last 5-6 games he has played?

At least Morata scored the winner against Moan-inho.

well there is more to being a striker than goals. Morata can contribute more in tightly marked games than lukaku who thrives with space for runs and overpowering players.

Lukaku's struggles are not really surprising to some of us who have said his characteristics are more adequate for smaller outfits, who see themselves countering a lot. He won't see much of that at United.

He's not a terrible player, but he's not great either considering his overall poor technique. To your point Morata is not great either, but his good overall technique might suggest a higher ceiling.
