Popular Post! ja1 1,166 Posted July 21, 2013 Popular Post! Share Posted July 21, 2013 He seems excellent when counter attacking. He times his runs well and uses his pace to good effect. However he'll also need to learn how to hold the ball up better, when the other team sits back, it's sometimes like he's trying to still force a counter when it's better to pass the ball and recycle possession, and improve on intricate play around the box with our midfielders Bosnian Blue, CHOULO19, The Skipper and 3 others

He has plenty of time - young man's only 20.
Barbara 15,149
I think the problem - that isn't his in all honesty and fairness - is that we need someone now. He isn't ready. He has plenty to develop. I think he's a better option than Ba. Demba never happened in Chelsea imo and he continues to prove so.So I think Lukaku could be a good alternative for the second half and the eventual start, but he's not the answer to what we need this season unless he does some crazy development in a month. The potential is there, the quality too, but he can't be the guy we're relying on. Also that puts a lot of pressure on him and at times in both matches I think there was a mental situation going on. Don't know if he was nervous, if he felt pressured, if he was anxious. But some of the misses he had, the way he handled the ball - especially today - showed me he wasn't totally comfortable yet.But he needs minutes - not only in pre-season. I hope he surprises me, but I only see him really making a difference for us at least a year from now. Again, I hope to be wrong, as I'm more and more convinced we won't sign any world class forwarder, and if that's the case, Torres, Ba and Lukaku is what we have. Peace.
HNKS 508
He isnt ready to be our number one. Sucks that we dont have a decent striker.Lukaku is still clumsy with the ball at his feet. He does make good runs and he is also very strong. Luckily he is young and still has time. royg and Peace.

royg 96
I dont think he is ready enough to be our number one striker. His first touch developed a little bit but his ball handling wasnt fun to watch. He is a little bit immobile when a defender is pressuring him. Good thing he still young and have years to learn.
Mouri_Matic 560
Decent these 2 matches, nothing amazing though. Don't think he is ready to be our no1 yet, need someone like Rooney/Suarez to lead the line with Lukaku as back up. Really need to work on his ball control, good pace but decision making and ball control has been very poor in these 2 matches.
Popular Post! Stingray 9,441 Posted July 22, 2013 Popular Post! Share Posted July 22, 2013 Give the lad a break. Everyone was calling for him here. It was said numerous times he would need time and that he would indeed have rough patches. We are now 2 matches far in preseason. The amount of prematurity is astounding. He already did more then Ba and showed more promise than Torres ever did. It is hard for strikers in Chelsea. He will rock it for us this year - having great games and absolute stinkers - like all youngster do. I have faith. bushman 2,043
The Belgium connection will do it all, this season. KDB, HAZARD, LUKAKU, my kind of trio of talented footballers. Stingray
kellzfresh 7,229
I just hope he has improved his first touch, thats the main thing benteke has better than him.I had a feeling he hasn't developed it, from yesterday we could all see how important it is to have a good first touch... I think he should have personal training to work on it, drogba had an excellent first touch so I'm sure he can match it
BlueLion. 21,491
90 minutes of football and two goals. You can't ask for much more than that really at this stage of pre-season.He is a little clumsy with the ball at his feet. That I will concede! His close control is probably one thousandth as good as Didier's was. But he has other strengths, and it is about getting out midfield to understand how to play to those strengths. We have to be patient with Lukaku and remember he is only 20. He has so much potential, it really is quite frightening. But I would really love to give him a full season to prove himself. He deserves that chance. Christacinto, mediator, Stingray and 1 other
CHOULO19 24,332
He's staying with us next season and Torres will be one number one striker with Lukaku as back-up. The sooner we accept that, the better. Despiadado.Maleante

We don't have to accept that yet at all especially when the club is so publicly after Rooney and even if Rooney didn't arrive I'd have Lukaku starting over Torres. How many teams in the PL do you think will leave as much spaces behind the defense when playing against Chelsea as Malaysia XI?
