We got so lucky in the summer I'm not even angry about the other miss transfers like Bakayoko. Imagine if we had Lukaku and Bakayoko in the team right now, I'd probably smash my tv.

Haha that would be sooo bad. We'd have no choice but to play hoof ball because there is no point in playing to Lukaku's feet and Bakayoko can't make intricate passes.

I wanted to laugh at him yesterday but then realised we have Morata who isn't much better.

Are you serious? Alvaro is doing really well here in his first season. He is far superior in terms of natural ability. He just needs to work on his finishing.

Deadly serious, we should be talking about how well both have done, yet both have been middle of the road and nothing more.

Alvaro needs to work on his shooting, yes, not only that, but his ability to stay on his feet may go a long way to contributing to that.

Morata may have flaws, but come on man. Morata's way better than Lukaku.

Lukaku did jack in top games. Lukaku reminds me of Costa 2nd half last season, but even worse. Can't control the ball, keeps losing the ball, can't defend, can't win headers against big teams...not to mention he only scored 1 goal in like the last 5-6 games he has played?

At least Morata scored the winner against Moan-inho.

Morata has 3 goals in his last 14. I think they're both young strikers having decent, if inconsistent, starts to the season

well there is more to being a striker than goals. Morata can contribute more in tightly marked games than lukaku who thrives with space for runs and overpowering players.

Lukaku's struggles are not really surprising to some of us who have said his characteristics are more adequate for smaller outfits, who see themselves countering a lot. He won't see much of that at United.

He's not a terrible player, but he's not great either considering his overall poor technique. To your point Morata is not great either, but his good overall technique might suggest a higher ceiling.

You have to give kudos to what a blinder Lukaku has played into getting in such a position where he is an undisputed starter at one of the world's biggest clubs. When he was with us, he didn't have a price tag to prop him up (as we saw with Torres, a big price tag will give you 20 times more playing time and patience if it's not working) meaning he would have to earn his place in the side on merit, which lets be realistic, he wasn't good enough to do and he knew it. He also knew that if he scored goals at Everton some big boy would ignore any shortcoming's initially and make a punt (it happens so often, Benteke, Bent two other major examples) so going back to Everton was another masterstroke by him firstly £28m on a player back in 2014 was unprecedented for Everton meaning he had a guaranteed place in the side and clubs would get starry eyed by the goal record, which United did. United then lumped £75m on him, meaning he's now got what he wanted all along, he's now at one of the top clubs with a guaranteed starting spot, no matter how badly he plays or if Martial/Rashford are more deserving.

If he remained with us to this day he would likely be occupying the role Batshuayi is now, which would be appropriate to the level he is as a player so you can only really say well played to him for getting into such a privileged position and thank god it isn't us lumbered with him.

I think the problem with Lukaku is the same as was with Diego Costa. Strikers nowadays can't just depend on being a poacher, you have to have other skills, dribbling, passing, vision etc. Because the moment you stop scoring goals, it will just be so clear how useless you are to the team if you don't score goals, because you don't have anything else to show

Well IMO atleast Diego brought some passion and agression to this team.

It seems we really did dodge having another lack luster striker on our hands. For once the footballing Gods were on our side.

He would have been as disastrous as Torres. Ok he'd score more often but his all round play would be equally as horrific as the Spaniard. I struggle enough watching Bats and he only starts once a month, Rom would have got me sectioned,

Agreed. I was originally gutted we ended up with Morata but the guy has done more than enough for us to realise Lukaku would have been a disaster.

I tried to give him a chance this year, thinking his ability to impose himself in big matches till this point was down to the way Everton set up in big matches, but seems like he is the problem. He can't win headers against Otamendi and Azpilicueta who are two of the shortest CBs around. His hold up play is dreadful in general, workrate non-existent, and finishing inconsistent.

Ego of Ronaldo, talent of Bendtner. Lukaku's story.
