Popular Post! Special Juan 28,141 Posted March 14, 2017 Popular Post! Share Posted March 14, 2017 If Costa goes and I have a feeling he will this guy is the ready made replacement. He has his faults, we all know that, but he's raw, young and is still growing and learning. Look what Conte has done with Moses and Alonso for example. Romelu is proven and has all the traits to play the lone striker role we deploy, It would be a great move for him, and for me IMO I think it would be great to have him back if Costa goes. I don't want him here playing RW, he's a striker, an out and out striker and gone are the days we should be shoe horning players in. This guy could ramp it up another level under Conte I am absolutely sure of it. bluephoenix, Eidur the Spider, Unionjack and 4 others
Laylabelle 9,535
Daft we let him go in the first place! Pizy 18,926
We have to sign him. Unfinished business and all that. You know he'll play his heart out for the club as he's a genuine Chelsea fan. Offers all the goals Costa does without any of the baggage or angling for moves away. Only 23-24 years old and can only get better. Can end up giving the club 10 years or more and has the potential to eclipse Lampard as our leading goal scorer. We have a world class coach who can make him world class. Biggest worry is that Rooney will most certainly be off in the summer and Zlatan may be lured away to MLS mega dollars. Would not surprise me at all if Mou targeted both Griezmann and Lukaku. They'll be our biggest competition I think. Would be absolutely awful if he goes to one of our title rivals as I think he'll be even more lethal surrounded by top players. This report that he won't sign a contract coming from so many reputable sources at the same time screams leak directly from Lukaku's camp or even the club themselves. Surely a big, big club has been in Rom/Raiola's ear and told him not to sign anything as they'll be in for him in the summer. Hope it's us. CHOULO19 24,332
If Costa, is going in the summer, which seems likely, he's the closest replacement in terms of style of play. Is he at the same level of Costa? Certainly no, but he also certainly has the potential to surpass Diego by miles.
Popular Post! DYC. 7,542 Posted March 14, 2017 Popular Post! Share Posted March 14, 2017 No, thank you. I just don't see that top quality in him. Being young doesn't automatically mean you have a lot of room for growth. If so, Rooney would've been one of the greatest strikers of all-time. Players like Defoe, Luis Fabiano, Mario Gomez, Luca Toni, Anelka, Mandzukic, and the list goes on and on, all scored plenty of goals but were never top top strikers. Costa is in a similar boat but he makes for his flaws with his personality, work rate and that fire in his belly. So when he's on, he's a nuisance. And even he gets plenty of criticism. Lukaku lacks those qualities and that's probably my main gripe with the Belgian. A player of his level of talent should be working his socks off both offensively and defensively and be on his toes for 90 min at the highest level. Lukaku lets his head down too easily. If he doesn't get any space he often just disappears. And his work rate is anything but impressive. Maybe as part of a striking duo. Lukaku and Lacazette is something I'd love to see somewhere. They compliment each other brilliantly. Belgiannutt, The Skipper, Peace. and 2 others
Stats 7,146
I will miss Costa if he goes but I would not be too concerned if we sign Lukaku. He is getting better every single game, improving his all round play, especially his back to goal and scores goals and is 5 years younger than Costa and will be a brilliant long term option. He is only going to get better and I would rather us than another PL team get him. He is a boyhood Chelsea fan too and you would think if he came here with assurances of being no.1 striker, we would be his first choice. Blue-in-me-Veins 4,067
Don't think people understand how much I DON'T want Lukaku at Chelsea. Praying that Costa stays until Lukaku has transferred to another club and that Mino Raiola steers him to move to United or Arsenal, or whomever else. Lukaku just talks so much shit and has such an inflated sense of self-worth that oozes out of his interviews. The man genuinely believes he's in the same league with the TOP strikers in Europe. If he's so great, tell me why absolutely NO European club moved heaven and earth to sign him last summer when all he did was scream from the rooftops begging any team that qualifies for UCL football regularly to come and sign him. Not Napoli, not Juventus, not United, not Liverpool, not Arsenal, not City, not Chelsea (although of course CFC fucking tried). Not Atletico Madrid. Not. One. Single. Club. Calma Lukaku, calma. I'm telling you guys. IF we grant Costa's wish, and he still wants to go to China or back home to Atletico Madrid, Lukaku is nailed on 1,000% signing for Chelsea. I can feel it in my bones. And then I'ma just laugh to keep from crying. The Skipper, Adnane and Spike

BoyBlue96 990
Because... who's available to replace Costa who's back in his 15/16 season form atm? Morata? Please no. People slamming Lukaku on here but praising Costa at the moment need the get their heads checked. Costa is dogshit at the moment.
BlueLyon 9,359
He strikes me as someone who offers little in terms of character and when he isnt scoring, he is basicaly invisible. He is somewhat similar in style to Diego, with later even better finisher inside pen area and more decisive in key moments. But he is quite older too. Lukaku has definately the potential to be unbelievably good. But he needs to find that fire, character to lead, to be difference maker. Same could be said for Pogba. Lukaku is young and who knows how will he play at 28. Maybe he will be next Drogba or next Defoe. If we do sell Costa (hopefuly not), Lukaku would be good option. Lacazette, Belotti, Auba, Dembele etc neither is proven scorer like Costa was, so anyone will be a gamble.

It's too big 625
I think I would prefer Belotti. He seems like he would link up well with Haz Azpinator, The Skipper and blueblood22
akgw13 867
I was having this discussion with a friend yesterday. Personally either Rom or Belotti for me. Belotti is the most like for like replacement for Diego, Rom would be the most physically imposing and a proven PL goal scorer, While Morata would be the smartest and interplay with the rest of the team would be the best. (in my opinion) I do believe Conte would be able to get the best out of Rom which is why I am warming to the idea of him returning. Young players go through a maturation process as professionals and I think Conte could have the same effect on Rom as he did on Pogba. If Costa does finally move on I have full faith that whoever we bring in will be Conte approved from what he wants out of his striker which works for me.

All Diego and Antonio Conte needs is a bonifide 2nd option, that can challenge Diego Costa. We don't have that in Michy Batshuayi, so Diego is a nailed on started week-in, week-out. And although Diego has had a fantastic bill of health this season, we can't trust those hamstrings to hold up next season with UCL football. As long we sign a 2nd Stiker Antonio Conte trusts then we'll be fine next season.
