Oriol Romeu

"Will Romeu return? His dream before leaving was to be a Barcelona player and that still stands, but we cannot ignore the opportunity Chelsea have provided," agent Javier Magico Diaz to Marca.

"Oriol has made a name for himself in the Premier League and is playing regularly. We're committed to the club and we cannot leave them hanging."

He added on a possible Barcelona return: "We'll have to see if it's appropriate for the club and the player. We need to know if he'll keep developing at Chelsea and playing.

"Maybe it will be more convenient to stay for another year and then return in 2013."

This is depressing. It kinda says that it isn't a first refusal but they can recall him if they want (if the player agrees, obviously) and we can't do anything to stop them.

Whether its a buy back clause or a first refusal clause seems to be open to debate, though judging the quotes from his agent it seems that if Barcelona do come calling, Romeu will jump at the chance to return to his club, though encouragingly it does say that he will stay until at least 2013.

I think it is a good move. We have gotten an extremely talented player for 2 years who can help us challenge in different competitions and Barcelona allow their young play some top level first team experience. If he decides to stay then brilliant, if not then it will have been 2 good years of service and hopefully he can make his mark in the Barcelona first team because he is a fantastic footballer.

I did check the definitions of Buy Back Clause from different legal source and in all the it mentions the same thing. ie. The Original seller gets the first right to buy for the pre determined amount IF the seller decides to sell it.

What you're stating is the first refusal clause.

The buy back clause is identical to a minimum fee release clause, only difference being that in a buy back only the original seller gets the right to speak with the player if it pays the amount stipulated in the contract. The release clause is for any club that can afford that price.

What Barcelona have is a right to first refusal, atleast that's what the manager says.

Let's assume that what Barcelona have said is true and that there really is a buyout clause in his contract, that still makes Romeu deal good for me.

First thing, no way in hell would Barcelona sell him cheaply to us as they have.

He is not a player that needs time to develop to start putting good performances, he did it right away.

If they approach him with a contract there is a chance that he would want to stay with us because a lot of players really seem to enjoy life in England and Chelsea players are treated like gods when they are winning and doing well.

Even if he accepted their deal we would still earn money from his transfer.

So all in all, we brought a cheap player who helped us and we either made profit out of his transfer or he stayed with us and became an important part of our squad. Either way, we win.

A lot of you have been saying Why would Chelsea agree to a deal like that? I believe that was the only way to bring in Romeu because Barca wouldn't sell him and risk going through a Fabregas situation all over again.

This is all of course if there really is a buyout clause, if there isn't they can politely fuck of and play this wanker :xmastongue:
