Are we all expecting too much of AVB in his first season?

• This is only his third job as a manager of a football team and he finds himself in what is probably one of the most difficult and demanding jobs in football at Chelsea. He has managed Academica for a few months, Porto for one season and now he is being asked to deliver trophies left right and centre by some people.
  
• Similar to the first point, he was originally a scout. You can be one of the best scouts in the world like he was under Mourinho but once it comes to managing a team it is something completely different. You have to think on your feet and change things during the game which is very different to compiling a report a few weeks before.
  
• The players he is dealing with are virtually impossible to control effectively unless you are Mourinho. The size of those egos (Terry, Cole, Lampard, Drogba, Malouda spring to mind) have been so key to our recent successes that they can run the dressing room
  
• He has inherited a squad which has stayed almost the same since 2007 at least. Therefore most of them are getting old and no longer have it in them to realistically compete for titles. It has been their errors as much as Andre's that has led to some poor results this season
  
• He is 34. Do you realistically expect a 34 year old who has barely managed 115 games to be able to outwit Alex Ferguson who has been in the Man U job since Villas Boas was 9? Lets be realistic he is somebody who is still learning and meant to be here for the long run and not brought in as a quick fix like Hiddink was
  
• How many points have we dropped because of AVB and his tactics? Kalou's stupidity against Valencia, refereeing incompetence against Man U twice, having one of 'those' days against QPR, being forced to change our tactics very early on because of injuries against Spurs, general poor defending and finishing against Wigan and Fulham, Torres' poor finishing against Norwich. Yet for all of these at least one person held AVB accountable

It's never much fun when the Chuckle Brothers turn up

It is rarely a good sign when the Chuckle Brothers turn up unannounced at the Chelsea training ground. Once is bad enough, but twice in four days and it may be time to pack a suitcase.

Roman Abramovich, the club owner, and friends were there again on Tuesday, following a surprise visit last week.Those familiar with Chelsea’s recent history acknowledge a familiar pattern. First the visits, then the temperature drops, finally the bullet.

Following Saturday’s house call by Abramovich, throwing away a 3-0 lead against Manchester United the next day was probably not Andre Villas-Boas’s smartest move.

Neither was Abramovich’s decision to sack Carlo Ancelotti, to be fair. A quick look at Chelsea’s latest financial figures show the club is down £620million in the Roman years, including a £67.7m loss for the year ending June 30, 2011.

Worryingly, that figure includes just 20 per cent of the £75m paid for Fernando Torres and David Luiz, both of whom will have fallen in value, one alarmingly, and none of the £65m spent on Juan Mata, Romelu Lukaku, Raul Meireles, Oriol Romeu and Thibaud Courtois.

So, what is included? Paying off Ancelotti and buying Villas-Boas out from Porto. Almost 50 per cent of last year’s debt is down to another upheaval of coaching staff.

For all manner of reasons, this cannot continue. Chelsea must soon comply with UEFA’s financial fair play regulations. It is bad enough spending £50m on a striker with the yips without having to factor in an additional £30m each time the club fails to win the league.

That is the going rate for failure at Chelsea: half to sack the old manager, the rest to bring in the next one who will also depart in 12 months unless results improve.

These numbers, like much else at Chelsea, do not add up.

Abramovich’s policy undermines club structure. When Frank Arnesen, the former sporting director, left for Hamburg, Franco Baldini, highly regarded assistant to Fabio Capello and now general manager at Roma, was sounded out as his replacement.

Baldini felt it was an impossible role given the constant uncertainty surrounding Chelsea’s manager. How could a sporting director plan for the future, or implement a coherent youth policy, when the first-team coach was perpetually under review and a new man could arrive each year with conflicting ideas?

If Villas-Boas goes now, or at the end of the season, what will happen to the young players he has favoured as part of his rebuilding programme, such as Romeu or even Daniel Sturridge? Josh McEachran, a favourite of Ancelotti, is now at Swansea City on loan. This ferment explains why Chelsea rely so heavily on the transfer market.

So Villas-Boas must hope Abramovich liked what he saw. If he did not, a cheque will be written, probably two, and the carousel will spin again.

UEFA will take a dim view eventually but fair play does not enter into this; its true guise is financial insanity.

Definitely a bad thing in my opinion, its bad enough it's taking us more than 5 years to move on from the Mourinho era. We need to move forwads not backwards in time.

On a side note about your signature, I never imagined anyone calling belletti a Chelsea legend. I mean he barely 50 appearances for us. I think Paulo would fit much better as one of our recent legends at RB

I am gonna try and answer your questions real quick...Its just my opinion from what i have seen so far, not gonna clown yours..

Will AVB ever play Sturridge up front?- He sees Sturridge in the form of Hulk, and before his injury and drop recent drop of form he was beastly in the right wing and will be when he gets over this slump...We need a need striker up front or/and give Lukaku some run (no giving up on Torres), just think we need other options and all know this might be Drogba's last season with us...As much as it hurts to see him go, i think thats the right move forward.

Will his man management skills improve (Anelka, Alex)? He explained that Anelka and Alex were not thinking of the club first, need to go back some pages to find the article and that for me is good enough reason, that he only wants players that are think ONLY of Chelsea football club at the moment in his first team..Well if you see anything wrong with that its your opinion and i respect it

Will Bertrand start a few premiership games, allowing A. Cole to be rested? Dont honestly see that happening, if ever it happens it might be until much later in the season..But i am quite optimistic he is part of "the project for next year"...And if he stays on leave this summer will give us a hint about that, dont see him leaving though

He does when we have options, before Iva's injury he owned the RB position, and Bosingwa has only been used there during Iva's injury, just his first game from injury was he used as a CB. Bos, has been a make shift LB and CB this season and in all honesty he has done a better job in those postions that he has in is supposed natural one

The Desailly side of the late 90's early 00's was a better team in my opinion, this current Chelsea side lacks skill and vision. We are so far away from what we should be and for the first time in a long long time Tottenham look like a much better side then us. We need resources in the summer to sort this shit out and instead of buying big names we need players with something to prove.

we have now. btw the manner in which Ranieri was treated was completely disgraceful.

We're in a fucking mess at the minute, so we have to be realistic with AVB. Judge him after a couple of years, we have to afford the man some patience, like it or not. Its for the good of the club in the long term.
