Chelsea Sack Andre Villas-Boas

*Apparently* players like Anelka, Drogba, Lampard, Malouda, Alex and Ferriera were on AVB's bye bye list at the end of the 2012 season since the first day he arrived at Stamford Bridge.

I applaud him for that.

How come he didn't do a Guadiola and ship a couple of them out early?

Can you imagine the effect that would have had on the rest of the squad's opinions of him. It would have been a disaster especially with the dynamic we have at this club in particular.

Haven't visited this topic in a while so I may be responding to some quite old posts/views.

As things stand today, the biggest culprit - and by far - for our lamentable state of form is Gourlay and co, or whatever their names, the people who are running our transfers for the four previous years. This isn't André's fault, nor Ancelotti's, nor Lampard's if our midfield is one of the most negative of the Premier League. No, it is the fault of the yes-men in Armani suit who have only bought defensive midfielders and didn't think it was necessary to bring a playmaker. It is them who have though for many years that a striker can play just as well on the wings. It is them who have been pleased with those overpaid deadwoods who do not give a shit.

Good enough post to lock this thread for a while

Be so funny if Styles came back and made a AVB out thread.

That's just dissrespectful to the quality poster that Styles was and the valid criticism that thread had (for the first 10 pages or so).

The main rule with football management is.

1st year - Assess the situation.

2nd year - Make changes.

3rd year - Stamp your authority.

Now do you really want another new manager in the summer who will "access" Malouda, Bosingwa and co and give them yet another chance, because that will happen.

The well fed "superstars" need to fuck off not AVB.

Now this is the area I feel AVB deserves the most critisism.

At this level and taking into account the risk we took with him he had plenty of time to assess the situation. From him signing his contract to before and during the pre-season tour and even later.

He is one of the persons in the Chelsea hierarchy responsible for entering the transfer market extremely late and therefore should take part of the blame for the either insuffisient or false assessment of our situation.

On more recent events and as far as AVB is concerned, the last 3-4 weeks have been very disappointing in terms of performances and substitutions*.

The Fulham game was the worst CFC game I've seen since Blackburn/Blackpool away in early 2010 (what a dross of a match) and against Villa and Wolves we were as uncreative as we were 10-12 moths ago (if that's even possible).

The Ferreira-Bosingwa subs would have been chuckle-worthy had they not resembled so much Ancelotti-changes and made me more worried than I was at any part of the season. Moreover, that fact that he broke his norm of using all 3 subs in league games in a match where he actually had a very young bench is another troubling point, giving McEachran <10 mins considering how non-existent our midfield was is hopefully only a result of being under pressure.

On another matter our two only trustworthy sources of creativity (Mata, Sturridge) are in bad need of rest and AVB seems as reluctant as I am to come to terms with it. Giving them that rest reveals that we have no sufficient cover and it will be interesting to see how the manager will respond during ACN and the January transfer period.

*Results too but I feel/felt like punching Cech and Bosingwa for those more that AVB.

How's it disrespectful?, I never said he was shit, he was a quality poster I thought, but it was his opinion if he wanted Carlo out, I couldn't really blame him at the time.

Guardiola was a Barcelona legend and already well connected with the club management, so he could do something like that without the fans getting angry.

If Villas-Boas came into Chelsea, told Drogba, Terry and Lampard to pack their bags and leave, there would be fucking uproar because this 'nobody' would be coming into the club and rearranging the furniture.

This is his greatest mistake. Our squad is bad and this situation was predictable. But he refused to ask some players to leave, and 4 moths later he humiliated Anelka and Alex, Kalou and Malouda are dead man walking, why they did not leave in summer?

So, he has a huge part in our current situation.

I agree with Henrique in that if there is one thing I will give him grief for was his stupid policy of "evolution" and not "revolution" in the summer. Yet a lot of the players he has relied on have let him down badly (just like with Carlo). Should of told some of the 30+ plus players to go, and if there was going to be temper tantrums then he should of given them a slap in the face and told them to piss off. I'm sorry but with the amount of player power in this team, something harsh has to be done.

I don't think so. There was a lot of optimism with his signing and lot of people on Chelsea forums agreed that big changes had to happen. If there was anyone who would be angry if he did make big changes were the ones who had to much sentiment to the status quo.

Thank you! That's exactly how I feel in hindsight. However his thinking (I assume) was that they would perform well or atleast with dignity becuz they want to earn an extension to their contracts and had performed a pretty remarkable comeback in the league after everyone writ us off. Unfortunately his age coupled with his treatment of nico and Alex, especially someone of calibre of nico made EVERYONE turn their heads and look over their shoulders. Plus then the failure to involve kalou and Malouda both replaced by Studge and mata, made drogs in a way challenge avb to see if he's got the guts to drop him in favor of Torres which we all know he didn't. But all in all I truly like avb and want him to lead the overhaul, nobody else.

What's that supposed to mean? AVB chose Drogba at the time, because during that period Didier's level of play was far superior to what Torres had....

I dont get this sometime.

Last season we were complaining that Carlo was not firm enough with the ego's in the squad now we have a manager who dares treat every single player in the squad equal and doesn't pander down to the big ego's we are moaning again, i don't get it.

Isn't that what we wanted first and foremost, a manager who is firm on the big ego's in the squad and breaking up the player power (which he is doing)? We have been pining for that for years and now that's happening we are complaining again.

True, Torres has picked up a bit and showing promise(about 10% of the £50 000 000), but Drogba was the man of the moment

Many football fans are just perpetual malcontents, especially when the going gets tough.

End of the day whatever AVB does is wrong! People moan he never benches Lampard...he does 'oh why's he doing that blahh blahh'..we loose...moan...draw...moan...heck we play like crap yet we win...moan! Its a win for christ sake be happy about that!

I do get the feeling with whatever he does it will never be enough for some...

it seems you think the world is black/white. you dont have to humiliate a player to be "firm on big ego's", and If Anelka, Lampard and Alex are Chelsea's players its because AVB decided they were good enough.

In pre-season it was pretty clear our squad wasnt that good, and then when Meireles was announced many people here were so happy that it was like we were signing a world class player. It took so many time to AVB realize he has a poor squad and that many players have no future at this club. The worst thing: he thought he could make us play attacking football + weird defensive system with this players...
