Yup. When Mata joined he was considered a talented young player, but if his wages went beyond 100k p/w it'd have been far too much for his status at the time. Now he's established himself as one of the best playmaykers in Europe and I can see him sign a new contract soon. Hazard is another example. He has almost triple the wages of Mata, but when he joined last summer he was (and still is) considered among the top attacking midfielders in Europe and it makes sense for him to earn that much.
