Chelsea could groundshare with London rivals West Ham at the Olympic Stadium while their new stadium is built.

 

The Blues want to relocate to Wembley for three years and a £20m-a-year deal has reportedly been agreed.

But they have also held talks with the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) about a temporary move to the Olympic Stadium, which will become West Ham's home from next season.

Chelsea are also understood to be considering a switch to Twickenham.

Whoever signed that contract between West Ham and the Olympic Stadium should be investigated asap and jailed for a long time. 2.5m per year rent for a 500m stadium is an absolute insult to all Londoners.

The 60,000 capacity stadium will eventually have cost £701m following an extensive £272m conversion to make it suitable for football. The contract also confirms that West Ham will pay £15m towards the conversion cost.

The LLDC had fought hard to keep the contract a secret in the face of a determined Freedom of Information campaign backed by a coalition of 14 Supporters Trusts and a petition signed by almost 30,000 people. But earlier this week a tribunal ruled that it must publish.

 

The contract reveals that the LLDC will keep the first £4m of any naming rights deal for the stadium over a 20-year period and that anything over that will be split 50-50.

The LLDC will also keep the first £500,000 of any profit on catering, with anything over that amount being split 70/30.

It also confirms that the LLDC will meet all the running costs for the stadium, providing everything from stewards to corner flags, and that West Ham must pay an additional £100,000 for each match they play over an agreed total of 25 per season.

West Ham must also pay up to £100,000 per season extra if they finish in the top half of the Premier League and various bonuses if they win domestic cups or qualify for Europe, up to £1m in the unlikely event they win the Champions League

Absolute joke.

This groundshare thing better be a sick joke, I'd hate sharing Wembley with Tottenham but at least Wembley is neutral. Olympic Stadium will be West Ham's HOME ground.

Wow, author did a great job of getting a lot more details of this than we know, fair play to him. Couple of eye jumping extracts:

Brady confirming that her discussions over use of the Olympic Stadium were from 2018 onwards

Though the FA have not rejected the possibility of a ground share between Chelsea and Spurs it appears the Blues are considering more options than just the national stadium, with a move across London to Stratford having been discussed.

However Brady has warned Chelsea that West Ham will set the terms for any possible deal to share the Olympic Stadium.

“I have very good relations with Chelsea and, yes, they have enquired about a ground share in 2018.

“Any final decision on letting the Blues move in will be ours and not the London Legacy Development Corporation’s, or indeed Chelsea.”

Stamford Bridge Gates competition update

The club recently held a public competition for the design of a set of landmark Gates for Stamford Bridge, subject to receiving planning permission for the expansion of the stadium capacity.

We were fortunate to receive over 500 high-quality entries from around the world.

Due to this large number of impressive submissions, the Special Gates Committee found that selecting a shortlist was an incredibly difficult task.

We found many of the designs to be original and imaginative, and we greatly appreciate the time taken to produce these proposals. 

The selection process has now identified six entries on the final short-list.

The Committee is now asking the authors of each entry on the short-list further questions aimed at helping them to develop their design.

We will keep you informed as the designs progress.

There's STILL more hurdles before the project can begin? I thought all the concerns about the railway, houses, and CPO landowners were all taken care of, otherwise, why even get people's hopes up displaying the renders for the new stadium at all? 

I hope Roman and Co. get their way and there are no hiccups. Those renderings looked magnificent, and all the effort into looking for a temporary home HAS to mean the Chelsea hierarchy are confident whatever ruling has to go their way will indeed do so. Scenes, if the re-development of Stamford Bridge isn't approved.

Not all the concerns have been taken care of though.

There are objections and talks in place with rail and could seriously push back time scales.

Its the rail track under the East Stand that is causing problems and a possible redesign.

This is the rail track that carries nuclear waste etc.
