They weren't our best players by that point, or maybe they were which if anything emphasises the issues in that squad more.

Apart from the late cup games the entire old guard looked absolutely done.

Disagree. 2011 drogs and lamps even at 33 were still by far our best players. They might not have been able to do it week in week out anymore but still delivered when it counted most which for me is world class and what makes them legends of the game 

surely they were bettter than Romeu and Torres who played in their stead 

the squad overall was poor that’s true which was the problem
