why not?

Rooney is not the answer and is not the type of striker we need.

In any case i want players from within to be given the chance, not a man utd player putting on a blue shirt and everything is OK.

Lukaku can out-muscle okay defenders like Dawson/Carragher and even give some of the best defenders in the world a hard time but I don't think he can carry the attack for a whole season. There are some areas of Romelu's game that isn't quite up there yet. Plus, the other 2 striker options - Ba and Torres - are not exactly inspiring

Steve Clarke used Romelu in a 3-man attack based on counter-attacking which involved a lot of running with the ball down the channels or through the middle. I doubt he will get such space when playing at Chelsea. Ideally, we'd have a starting striker and mould Romelu into the team this season before he takes over.

We shouldn't sign sub-standard strikers just for the sake of it though because Romelu is better than the likes of Benteke etc But if a quality striker is available, Chelsea should act.

they had already won the league by then

Having already won the league had no bearing on that game. It was our managers last in charge - and you can bet your life we were trying to win it. Lukaku simply couldn't be stopped that day. I honestly hope you don't play Lukaku next season as it's a mistake, and will help us.

^ cavani is earning 9/10 m per year.

Rooney should do the same as Bale if he wants to join. just start to rebel and dont participate in the preseason games etc.

Rooney has been as quiet as a mouse. You have to ask why? It's like you said, he has to make some noise, but he hasn't.

Again. How the hell do you know Rooney will be on £250k a week?

Because he is not going to take a drop in pay cut when he can earn £250k for 2 more years if he stay. He is a mercenary type, he is not gonna move to us because we have a better project or team. He will move to us because he get to play ST and can still earn the same as he is currently having at MU. If he is main ST again this season instead of RVP he will not demand to leave.

Thats the same as saying how the hell would you know that Rooney is willing to take a paycut to join Chelsea?

Alot of people are assuming that Rooney will earn similar wages if he does end up moving from United to Chelsea...but I just don't see Moyes letting go of Rooney.

Moyes is yet to make a marquee signing as United boss...letting Rooney leave for 30-35 million doesn't make much sense.

Rooney did not want to move himself, he just wanted to complain and make some noise and pressurize the manager to play him in his favourite position. Now he is scared himself by the prospect of him having to leave to play first-team football. He himself never wanted this to go so far, but was too naive to calculate the consequences. Now he hopes for all to blow over and things somehow fix themselves.

I completely agree. I said this a few pages back. I feel you are all going through this for no reason. It's hard I know, because I'm guilty of it myself (hoping a player will join) - but people should just get over it. He's not joining Chelsea.

Me too. Sometimes one has to rephrase one's thoughts for them to be recognized.

So what will you make with Rooney? Unhappy player on outrageous wages in a squad role?

Rooney's made no noises. I don't expect him to join. I expect United to either flog him on the cheap to some European team, or for him to stay and cause havoc. Which is the best possible outcome for us.

Time for Torres to prove his worth, and Lukaku deserves a shot.

People still have hope in Torres. Lol

Or Rooney is back to form and bang in 30 goals this season for them and we end up losing the title.

what worth???

honestly speaking i ll be suprised if torres starts a PL match against the top 10 teams. what exactly can he offer that ba or lukaku cant?

ba is definitely the better striker with the back to the goal.

both ba and lukaku are better in hold up play.

both are better in the air.

both are far more clinical.

both are far more physical.

ba atleast is better when taking long range shots.

lukaku is faster and can go past a defender which torres cant.

so cant see how and why mou would start torres in a match against a "good" team. obviously torres will get his starts and score his quota of goals against league 2 teams in the fa cup and carling cup and dead rubber matches in the group stages of CL.

Not a chance. RVP is first choice and a superior player, and even he can't inspire a lacklustre team like United to the title next season. It's scary how far behind City they are in terms of squad depth.

It's hard to tell. I don't even know what Moyes' preferred formation will be with us. Will there be a trequartista role behind RvP? I would of thought so, and that will leave Rooney and Kagawa to fight for it. I don't think it was ever as simple as Rooney being RvP's back up. That's more like Hernandez for me personally. I know Moyes said it, but I really hope he doesn't see him as that. If I was pushed I'd say Kagawa would be better in behind RvP, but if Rooney can find form and happiness at our club again, it's a really tough call. Plus we know Rooney is good in quite a few positions, so he's very valuable. As far as the wages go - I've always thought they were extortionate.

Bottom line - Rooney shouldn't be seen as RvP's back up. He can play in the team with RvP, and even with RvP and Kagawa. I don't really think his first team place is in jeopardy as long as he pulls his finger out. I think he's been given these reassurances and is now happy.
