I was going over FPL and after Van persie , the next most used Striker is Lukaku at 23%.

Not saying that FPL is any sort of directive, as there are alot of variables. but fans from all around england are tipping him to rip teams apart.

Somehow its only on here that people think he wont score 20 PL goals after scoring some 17 for West brom not even being a consistent starter.

I really hope we dont sign Rooney and this lad gets a shot at glory.

He wont disappoint.

Dont get me wrong if we get Rooney, i will be glad, but a small part of me will be very sad as well.

If only we could play formations with 2 strikers up front, that would make this Rooney signing so damn good, Rooney and Lukaku leading the line.

There is no point in playing Rooney in the hole as we have way better players in that position.

There was similar talk of Sturridge not being the one to "win us the premier league", and while that had other factors such as his selfishness etc, look how well he is doing at a club that is giving him the chance to lead the line, while many Chelsea fans regret selling him.

Lukaku is at a very similar situation, and we should IMHO give him that shot.

As if the fans reaction will decide the outcome. So suddenly, after about 2months of wanting out, he will suddenly consider staying if he is not booed. Never heard such shit in my life. The guy has not denied one story, either via a statement or a representative, about wanting to leave and come here. So fans booing is not going to matter one inch, if anything, fans booing him will just speed up the transfer request.

Daily Mail are unreal, christ.

The problem is, it is not that clear. Rooney might also wanted to leave in 2011 but a bigger paycheck was enough to convice him to stay obviously. As much as Torres is a self-possessed emo girl, Rooney is a spoilt princess (an extremely ugly spoilt princess), naive and immature, his money spared him to grow up, even for his move from everton he did not have to leave the liverpool-manchester sinkhole . he probably does not want out himself and is probably terrified himself what rumours and hatred his "unhappiness" has sparked. On the other hand he wants to play, he wants to be the star man but he himself has not resigned to the imagination of leaving. that is why he has not forced through the necessary move with required tenacity. AFter his sorehead act, which first of all only should pressurize the management to guarantee him a starting spot he is now desparately hoping for everything to blow over and his little world to get fixed for him somehow.

I think the difference between Chelsea and West Brom is that teams played very open vs them where vs us there is hardly much room behind back four for strikers like torres ba and lukaku to thrive.. Jose sees this and thats why he is after rooney if not rooney we need a player that can link up when teams have 10 behind the ball that will help with breaking them down by quick passes..

You only have to watch Lukaku and co against these mediocre teams we're playing, to know they are not going to cut it against the big boys. I still can't believe we have signed no one at this stage, when we certainly had options - Cavani, Falcao, Negredo, Jovetic, Soldado, Higuain, Gomez, Bony - all upgrades over what we have, but we didn't even try to sign any.

Of course Rooney is better than some on that list, but no team goes into the window with just 1 target, there has to be a Plan B or even C -_-

Lukaku scored a hat trick against United. And he didn't even play in the first half of that match.

Negredo - he's mediocre for those levels. I dont think he's better than Ba or Lukaku, maybe even Torres.

Jovetic- Jovetic isnt a real striker.

Falcao, Gomez - not the type of strikers as Rooney- what Jose wants. And Falcao cost 60m.

Soldado, Higuain, Bony - thats not a big upgrade imo. And like Gomez and Falcao they cant bring what Rooney can.

Cavani - we were interested i think, but he cost 63m.

And btw, if we want Rooney and we're working on him, you think we could make other deals to not happen in the same time? i mean other teams wanted those strikers, but we didnt want them like Rooney, so what did you thought will happen? they cant stay available becuase we want them to... and you cant buy a player and then regret it becuase you got Rooney in the end. Rooney is a though deal and we decided to go for that. And we dont know, maybe its a done deal for some time.

If we wont get Rooney, and some striker will be available in the market who Jose likes, maybe we'll go for him.

And tell me, will United play the same way they did that day against West Brom against us? No they wont. He wont get the time and space. Plus they had already won the league. Lukaku isnt good enough, Jose will realise this I just hope it aint too late.

You could perhaps make that case for his second goal. He still put it in the back of the net though. My point remains. He has shown he can score against the big teams. United have also had already won the league trophy when we played them at OT, yet it took us 86 minutes to find the back of the net, and it came from midfield through a deflection. Scoring a hat-trick against United is exceptional, regardless of whether they play offensively or not.

If we get Rooney, all of a sudden its not going to be like teams will start playing us like they " play west brom"

It will be the same way they approach us, whether it is rooney or Lukaku.

Dont think that argument is a winner.

Rooney has a good record no doubt, having a great season, then following it up with a below par season. This has happened over the past 5 seasons or so.

Both players provide something different.

However, at this moment in time, i dont think we need yet another player who likes coming into the midfield and getting involved in build up play.

Rooney has become that sort of player of the last few seasons and is no more a true striker.

Lukaku on the other hand has height strength pace, and is a true out and out striker.

I think we need more of the characteristics that Lukaku provides rather than get another player whos game is not that of an out and out striker.

We need out striker to be in the box in every attack, and not be roaming Linking up play and all that. Yes, linking up play is important but not from midfield and dropping back and all that.

We have bought sooooo many players to do that.

The reason Falcao Cavani etc were bang on our targets was because they were strikers, poachers and played in a very advanced position.

If Rooney can do that,maybe!

Its been a long time and his game has evolved, not the same striker that he was initially.

I hope there is a plan B somewhere if we do fail to get Rooney on deadline day, but there's not many options.

if it was any other manager bar Jose I would be worried, that's how confident I am that we will get this done.

If not i bet he turns our strike force into goal machines.......that confident on all fronts.

The signing of Jose is the biggest by us so far that everyone is talking about him.....they fear him, yet he is our gaffer.

the fantasy thing may be because chelsea have a double gameweek first up

and as far as the overall post goes, Lukaku certainly deserves a chance but this is too early to rely the whole striker-department on him.

why not?

Rooney is not the answer and is not the type of striker we need.

In any case i want players from within to be given the chance, not a man utd player putting on a blue shirt and everything is OK.

^ cavani is earning 9/10 m per year.

Rooney should do the same as Bale if he wants to join. just start to rebel and dont participate in the preseason games etc.
