Frank Lampard is set to captain England for the first time after Fabio Capello’s two first-choice skippers were ruled out of the Denmark clash.

Gerrard had been lined up to lead the Three Lions in Copenhagen after Rio Ferdinand’s warm-up calf injury at Wolves saw him sidelined for two weeks.

But after Gerrard inspired the Merseysiders’ win at Chelsea, Reds chief Kenny Dalglish announced his captain would not be available for Wednesday’s game.

The injury means Chelsea midfielder Lampard, who has not featured since the August Wembley win over Hungary, will get the nod for the armband.

Even for only one game but still, great to see him wearing the armbad and leading the country.

Couldn't really careless about this game.

Lampard's only being made captain out of convienience,he'll still get booed by England's bone headed travelling fans.My affection for the National team has waned in the past 9/10 years anyway.

So near,yet so far!.

Spot on. Guaranteed there will be more people wanting him to fuck up than do well.

Bitter reds of every description.

Even i can remember worse England moments like Euro 88 where we were a complete shambles, and not ONE player got booed, even though you felt like shooting Bobby Robson at the time.

England these days is all about the corperate fan that will spend money at Wembley,to help the FA's bill of god knows how much to re-build the famous stadium.

These meaningless friendlies are also as welcome as a Jew at a pig farm,at such a crucial stage of the season as well.
