That was the wrong call but I don’t think Maresca has a longstanding pattern of making terrible substitutions. His subs changed the game vs Liverpool for instance

This time we didn't get a red card but his subs were horrible. We really are missing Palmer's magic as Pedro seems to have forgotten how to score since the CWC 😆 bigbluewillie

Good thing is Delap is back soon. Should give some room for Joao Pedro to breathe, and we dont have to rely on Georgo or Guiu up front. The lack of a summer break has caught up with this squad on top of the obvious issues Thats just excuses for having a sub-par attack whenever Palmer is out of the side. Our front line is so bad in terms of inconsistency. I don't see any of our attackers getting 10+ goals this season. 4 hours ago, Johnnyeye said: couldn’t follow the game, i came to check the result and i see another home loss, wtf happened? Another team figuring out that we can't break down a half-decent parked bus and then Maresca not realising that Sunderland have picked up quite a few goals late in the game this season from counter-attacks and long balls over the top. Wolves and Spurs coming up.....both teams love a counter-attack, can't wait to see Tosin/Chalobah get rinsed again 😆 Johnnyeye

The lack of a summer break has caught up with this squad on top of the obvious issues He has previous running players into the ground, as seen with Cole last season. He really shouldn’t be so stupid to take the chance with Caicedo in particular given how key he is, or the other 2 given how one is already notorious for being injury prone. Or is this his way of showing the board he has no use for Essugo & Santos? Ok Essugo is injured as of now also but again if Maresca is trying to prove a point he really is rolling the dice with Caicedo who we absolutely cannot take any chances with. Without him & Palmer we have no top players at all. The attacking players - who some seemed to think were massive upgrades and would fire us to a title challenge LMAO - also cannot be relied on, clearly. Going to keep saying it, experience in key positions is absolutely necessary, top GK, top CB and a top wide player/centre forward in that first 11 today and we probably win. By 2 or 3. It is tricky because without Caicedo, the team is so much worse. Especially with Lavia and Essugo not around. Doesn’t have the luxury of resting Caicedo at the moment. re: the attackers. JP is injured and Liam is out. They were considered upgrades. The wingers we all thought were dodgy

The problem with the whole squad is the lack of experience to get them across the line in tight games. If Tosin, Chalobah and Sanchez are your 'experienced' guys who are supposed to keep the Under-23 boys in check, we are in alot of trouble. I get the business model and investing in youth but you need 2-3 quality players of that 28-31 age group to help the youngsters out. Its not like Estevao and co will pop-up with brilliance every single game, thats where a fit Palmer is so sorely missed. I was travelling home from my sons game he was a linesman for a newcastle game in the academy, the guy on the radio said we took the lead, when they went back to Scott Minto he kept saying Sunderland are all over us....I turned and said to my lad "this has a Sunderland win all over it" he said to me "why" I said because they will come at us and we have no idea how to cope with teams who go at us and we are young naive...within second it's 1-1, we arrive back home and the more it stayed 1-1 you could smell it coming I have no words with this lot, absolute fucking wankers they are

Carbon copy tactic from every one because they all know it works. And it’s the most basic tactic any manager can implement with minimal effort. Park the double decker, slow our attack to a crawl, and make the match an almost unwatchable shitfest. Then on the rare occasions they get the ball it’s random heaves up the pitch or long throws. And yet the manager of Chelsea Football Club who has witnessed this SAME EXACT TACTIC about 5 times this season in the PL has found absolutely ZERO way to counter it or get through to the players on how to deal with it. The blueprint is set. Sit deep and run around a lot and you beat Chelsea. Simple as that. We have no ideas, no spark, and no intensity against this setup. I'm not sure I agree with that assessment of the game. We never parked the bus and the match wasn't "an unwatchable shitfest". We're a lot better than you're giving us credit for, we'll surprise a lot of teams this season. I think the opposite and don’t think the fan base realise quite how much trouble we could be in this season if we approach games like we did against Sunderland. Keep turning up with a half assed attitude to games and we could be in the bottom half of the table pretty soon. Spurs better not take the piss out of us. bigbluewillie

Especially teams on a bad run then theres always comments of 'oo they turned up against us' when usually its more we didn't turn up. At all! And just expected it to be easy based on their form so stroll around and then make stupid mistakes Spurs..also above us!! Fulham Broadway 17,431
How long does it take to learn that the best teams build from the back ?? 2004/5 onwards the building blocks were the Keeper and defence. Arsenal, albeit being as boring as fuck as per usual, have conceded 3 goals so far this term As old Red face Ferguson once said -''attackers win you games, the defence wins you Championships'' Laylabelle
