Magic Lamps 11,692
Sell him. He is useless on the pitch and apparently also knows fk all about football in general. Not a fan of either but Messi > Ronaldo simply bc of the WC. but more importantly Lampard > slippy G. It’s not even a contest. the only reason there is a debate is bc of lpools annoying popularity . I know Sterling and slippy g played together but still get a grip Lamps has more goals (absolute or per game or minutes, from outside or inside the box, it does not matter ) more assists, more club trophies, more individual honors plus gerrard singlehandedly cost pool the title in 2014 and England progress in the WC the same year plus countless other fuck ups that cost his teams, far more than the number of usual errors that just happen. Not bc he was psychotic but bc slippy g simply was technically out of his depth in many situations. Lampard was just so much cleaner with the ball at his feet and overall the superior footballer. Sorry for necroing this, but I will never understand Messi vs CR7 comparisons as they are completely different players who thrived in different positions. Personally Messi is one of the best players I saw in my life, and I saw Maradona (to a lesser degree), and Ronaldo (9) before and after he lost both knees: before he was more like Messi (he was everywhere on the pitch), while after he was more like CR7 as he became more of a pure, and yet skillful, striker. He also struggled too much in CL: you really can't find a great performance from him in the later stages of CL, while Neymar had plenty. Neymar has more skill and creativity, and is also a better finisher too. Eden was better at dribbling and had more pace, but ultimately a less complete player for me. They were both very similar in one regard though: even if for completely different reasons, their lack of dedication reduced them as players both in quality as well as longevity. What a cunt. I think the statement was wrong. Particularly with the timing yes. Was it his idea or his teams idea to release it then though? Who knows? Both should know better though. I can see why he would be frustrated. He was told he was a part of Maresca’s plans when pre-season started and maybe a week ago, if the rumors are true, the club offered him to Juventus in a swap deal for Chiesa… that and leaving him out, maybe put some wheels in motion in his mind. Its pretty obvious the club are looking to shift multiple players on. I know I keep going on about the new owners and the 2 clowns running the show but this sort of thing wouldn’t have happened under the previous regime. Just like the Gallagher and Trevor situations and them being expelled from the first team and the facilities. There is a real sense of uncertainty and a bit of toxicity around how players are being treated at the club and it definitely has came from the top. These owners and footballing director guys are making Maresca’s job a nightmare from day 1 with this shit. Its not like he has publicly said about Raheem its best if he leaves like he did with Chilwell. He is answering more questions on things he cannot control as opposed to the most important thing: coaching. Magic Lamps 11,692
Moronic idea from him to have this statement released. We have 42 players in the squad. A good 20 had to be left out, where are the other guys statements? You don’t play? Just get on with it. the timing just before the game was an act of sabotage. as Maresca apparently sees nkunku and Neto as LW, Sterling is now our 3rd choice LW. You can’t have your 3rd choice complain every time he isn’t in the squad. Reminds me of that story when steve warnock complained about Benitez not telling him in advance he would not play in the CL final 2005. I hope Maresca told Sterling that he didn’t inform the kitman he would not start as CF either

Blue Armour 4,439
Can't blame Maresca because of the clownshow upstairs. No manager wants to work with a bloated squad. Last year they were quick in moving players on. Mount, Kovacic, Havertz, Koulibaly,..why? Because those players, 'useless' as they have been when playing for us, were at least known quantities and in demand by other teams. Gallagher, Chalobah, & Sterling will be the last scrapes from that 'known quantity' barrel. Next season it will probably be even worse, unless some of these Clearlake era signings step up

DH1988 1,348
Good to see, sets the tone by the club, fuck around and pull the shit he did with the statement, having Rio come out on his podcast and generally stirring the pot is just disgraceful. Enzo said he's told him he prefers another type of winger, then he tries to put the club in the weakest negotiating position, meh, rot in the reserves on your 300k if you want, and keep Rom 'liking' shit posts about treatment. The true clowns.

Just read the interview, seems so. Fair play. I think Chilwell decision is still a bit iffy though, yes he may not be an inverting fullback but we seen v City at times Malo & Marc going on the outside, seems a bit strange unless Veiga is going to be at LB? Plus Trevor - considering what we have got in ahead of him, has to be a PSR decision because if not why would we be selling him given the fact we have Badiashile & Disasi who are comfortably worse? DH1988 1,348
Glad he's getting treated this way tbh, Enzo said he had a chat with him, and Chilly to say its better to find minutes elsewhere etc. Enzo has been brutally honest in his interviews, so why then release a statement seeking 'clarity'? Just putting the club into a terrible position and going off to his little mates like Rio, shameful. Good riddance.

I disagree. It's far more likely it's the club's decision and Maresca has their full backing on this. Sterling has already played, and well, in a very similar positional system at city. He'd be one of the few players who'd get what the manager asks right away. IMO the club sees what we see: the player is no longer putting a shift in and he's on high wages. Every employee is a yes-man, esp managers with a very thin resume like Maresca. Edited August 30, 2024 by robsblubot Fernando
