King Kante 1,643
Personally I reckon Messi goes to Italy. That seems the most logical step for him as it is the easiest for aging players to play in owing to its tactical nature. My money is actually on Juventus. They are absolutely desperate for a CL, have money (even in a Covid world) and there have been rumours they are looking to shift Dybala again. I strongly disagree with you because how do you know there'll never be another player great as Messi? And personally, I think prime Ronaldo is better than prime Messi. I think Suarez also helped dragged Barcelona through this season. It's not all about Messi. Also my statement isn't about me thinking Messi isn't the greatest player of all time. My statement is about whether Messi is the still the best player in the planet NOW, and I don't believe so. ...I mentioned La Liga had quality teams. I'm aware of Sevilla winning the EL. What I said was La Liga has piss poor teams in the league as well. Teams like Eibar isn't a quality side (although they did beat Valencia). Okay. Which La Liga player that didn't play for Real Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla and Atletico prior succeeded to do well in the PL? Can you answer that? I don’t think we will but as you’ve said never say never. Although its more likely to be unlikely. Even at 33 and however old Cristiano is both are considerably better than the next batch of players who are closest to them right now. If the Brazilian Ronaldo didnt have injuries he’d be right up there for me as well but he did and while he achieved a lot he like Ronaldinho (bit harsh on him as he was unbelievable for like 3 or 4 seasons), underachieved in a lot of ways for what youd expect players with their natural talent should of gone on and done. Messi contributed 31 Goals and 24 assists in all competitions. In the league he was involved with 25 goals and 21 assists. Barcelona scored 86 goals in La Liga. Messi was involved in more than 50% of them. Suarez had only 16 goals in La Liga and 8 assists. Theres only one guy who carried Barcelona this year and his name is Leo Messi. Out of interest who is better than Messi right now? Mbappe? Neymar? Lewandowski? Hazard? Cristiano? Messi and Cristiano still much better than most of them, comfortably. Lewandowski is oustanding and should be in amongst them two for his last 2 seasons IMO also. Again though there are these shitter teams so to speak, they arent any worse than the relegation fodder in the PL in fact I bet some of them teams that went down this season were twice the teams Bournemouth, Watford and Norwich are for instance. Or be better than Fulham 2 seasons ago who spent 150m or Villa this season who spent 100+ m. And lastly, cmon.... really, where do I start? Laporte is currently strolling the PL for City. Played for Athletic Bilbao. Former fans favourite Juan Mata (?) and David Silva both who came to the PL from Valencia, would say they found it relatively easy. Santi Cazorla came to Arsenal from Malaga and had a good spell in the PL. Ander Herrera again, solid player... did well for United, came from Athletic Bilbao. Zabaleta joined Man City from Espanyol years ago and became one of the top RBs for many seasons. Xavi Alonso??? Played for Sociedad prior to Liverpool. If I could be arsed to look deeper and find more players I would but I am sure you get the point. Be some glaring misses probably. Arlen Correa 161
Messi called Neymar last week and told him that he is going to City, and asked Neymar to make an effort to go there too in 2021. Someone from Neymar family told this history to Jorge Nicola, journo of Espn Brazil.
BlueLyon 9,359
Inter would be best possible option. None PL rivals get him, Juve vs Inter (CR vs Messi) one last time. It would make serie a more interesting. oldportblue

Hutcho 8,443
We aren't getting Messi. We defo can't afford him anyway with what we have already spent this window especially. Now city could well get Messi. We're building a squad to challenge for titles but is that this year... Who knows, probably unlikely so it may be that the timing (if he went to City) wouldn't work out terribly as they were massive favourites to win the league anyway. Now if someone like united somehow signed Messi we'd have a problem but I can't see that one happening
MoroccanBlue 5,380
Messi joining city would be so wrong on every level. Hope he realises anything he wins with them would be Illegitimate given they are proven cheaters. Atomiswave
Liuxas 124
We can afford Messi. Can you imagine how much money and Populiarity Chelsea will earn from him.? Its crazy money. Just look at Juventus and Ronaldo. Hope Abramovich can help with that. Muzchap and Atomiswave
coolhead23 1,147
As much as I would love to have Messi at the Bridge (he is for me the best) but we shouldnt be going after him (even that thoughts shouldnt linger in the board's mind). We are building something big which would last for few years if things go well .... with Messi coming in, I fear everything would revlove around him ... he becomes the focus rather than the team. Success would mean his success whereas failure would fall on the team. shrenshah

There is no way they will be able to afford him just by cash. Its got to be a player+player+cash or player+player+player deal. If I was on the Barca board, I would ask for a KDB+Jesus+angelino deal (Angelino as they were anyways rumored to want, Jesus to replace the suarez who is rumored to have his contract suspended and KDB is the most obvious guy). That deal would be worth 300m (200m+70m+30m). I seriously expect it to be a NBA type deal. Will be interesting to see how this plays. Puliiszola 519
A bit confused about our Loan dealings. According to the new rule: Players aged 22 and older are affected by the new rules, which only allow eight loans in and out as of the 2020/21 season – from the 2022/23 onwards, the limit is set at six players. Currently we already have: Piazon (26), Izzy brown (23), blackman (26), Pantic (23) So thats 4 players. We have Baka, zappa, DD, MvG, Moses,Tomori (22), Baba Rahman (26), Kenedy (24), Lewis Baker (24), Musonda (23), Clarke-Salter (22) I mean, am I missing anything? Or does it look like we are going to have to be giving a lot of wages for people for just sitting about doing nothing.

Its definately not impossible given all the stuff happening around Chelsea these days. But this is Messi we are talking about. The scale of this one transfer alone is completely different to signing Werner, Havertz, Ziyech etc all in one window. It would also require the club, for example, to completely blow up the wage structure for one player - even if it's the best one in the world - and maybe even set us back in the coming windows in the terms of the budget etc. And as I also said earlier, Messi wants to win the Champions League again. We aren't going to win it anytime soon. So, he isn't going to come here.
