Okay. Which La Liga player that didn't play for Real Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla and Atletico prior succeeded to do well in the PL? Can you answer that?

Aymeric Laporte, Ander Herrera, Juan Mata, David Silva just of the top off my head.

Eric Bailly was good before injuries wrecked him.

While I agree there is like 1% of Messi coming here, would you say there is any chance we are getting Kai, Werner, Thiago, 60m LB, Ziyech and very likely a new GK in single window a year ago?

Its definately not impossible given all the stuff happening around Chelsea these days.

But this is Messi we are talking about. The scale of this one transfer alone is completely different to signing Werner, Havertz, Ziyech etc all in one window. It would also require the club, for example, to completely blow up the wage structure for one player - even if it's the best one in the world - and maybe even set us back in the coming windows in the terms of the budget etc.

And as I also said earlier, Messi wants to win the Champions League again. We aren't going to win it anytime soon. So, he isn't going to come here.

I'd add Santi Cazorla and Xabi Alonso

A bit confused about our Loan dealings. According to the new rule: Players aged 22 and older are affected by the new rules, which only allow eight loans in and out as of the 2020/21 season – from the 2022/23 onwards, the limit is set at six players.

Currently we already have: Piazon (26), Izzy brown (23), blackman (26), Pantic (23)

So thats 4 players. We have Baka, zappa, DD, MvG, Moses,Tomori (22), Baba Rahman (26), Kenedy (24), Lewis Baker (24), Musonda (23), Clarke-Salter (22)

I mean, am I missing anything? Or does it look like we are going to have to be giving a lot of wages for people for just sitting about doing nothing.

The implementation of that new loan rule was postponed back in April because of the pandemic and subsequent impact on clubs.

Will come into effect when things are back to normal, whenever that will be.

Ok. Missed that. Good to hear.

Man, some of the names were so weird to even write down. Why do we still even have them on our books

Exactly- we can afford Messi and I don't think it will kill the wage structure. Players know they ain't as good as Messi.

For a 2-3 year period it would be insane. Tons of merchandise sold and lots of marketing rights.

People saying we don't need or want him are just plain crazy.

The same people saying we shouldn't sign Messi would have said the same about Zola... or Vialli...

Our youngsters playing with Messi will only improve them and show them what is required.

I would absolutely love it - but just cannot see it happening unless Roman wants it.

What a statement to World Football.

He has a relationship with Pep though - so City, sadly does seem a potential outlet.

He must remember the glory days of Chelsea and his inability to score easily against us...

Lampard could probably convince him. Lampard is a smart negotiator.

How do you think we can afford him?

His wages alone are around 50m per year, which would be 10% of overall revenue for an year. Even if we are able to get him for 200m for let's say 4 years, that's 50m amortized fee. Another 10%. So 20% of our overall revenue on one player?

This is on top of the 99m loss that we incurred for 2018-19. Anyone thinking we can "afford" him needs a reality check.

A reminder of what Messi will cost...

Yeah Chelsea is not touching him and for good reason. I don't get how a 33 yo Messi known to be a disruptive influence in the squad is a good signing (apart from fan interest, merchandise sales push)

The merchandise sale isn't even going to cover what we would spend on him. Only way to make the signing all worthy is if he leads to the quadruple or at least the treble every season.

Moreover, if we spend all that money on Messi, we can probably forget about buying players over the next few years.

Messi is not gonna win anyone the CL on their own again. Same as Ronaldo. They are still world class players but not really able to win matches all alone. Salah, Mane, Mbappe, Neymar maybe even Sterlign or Gnabry might be better than Messi overall right now.

Sadly, I think that Man City will be a bigger club than us. City has already as much PL titles as we do and Messi wins millions of new Man City fans. Hard times
