Nothing is going to be different next summer. We have FFP relaxation this season so it does not matter if we sign him now or next summer. This is why I think we will go all in for him very soon... I don't mean wait until his price goes down, I'm saying we'll wait until we have money for the huge outlay that will be required. WH will likely demand £65-80m for him which there's no chance of us paying this summer. This time next season we'll have PL and CL money to work with and will probably only need one or two players after what we've done this summer. She gets the praise when good players come...when its the bad ones its ohh but she is only a negotiatiator, a financial expert. But Marina isnt the problem per se. The problem is that she is second in command, and as such responsible for not just financials, but scouting, planning etc. And she is only expert in financials. Obviously she doesnt do scouting herself, but she is in charge of high level decisions along with Roman. If Cech has a suggestion in scouting, its definately not his call, but needs approval by a higher member; Marina or Roman (given Roman trusts Marina, its likely her decision). Her negotiation skills are great. As is her financial knowledge. But she is second in command and has much much greater responsibility and power. And she doesnt have football knowledge like many second in command members at other clubs have. And thats the whole point. You cant have someone with such limited expertise in charge of scouting decisions or team building. Or, if you have, then its her damn responsibility ffs. Lastly, everyone is creaming over this window when season didnt even start. Lets wait how these new players settle in, then we talk about how smart our summer was. Usualy its never good to change half of starting 11, but maybe Lamps does wonders. Why do you say marina is second the second most powerful executive at Chelsea. How do you know this? Hutcho 8,443
Rice has 4+1 years left on contract. So basically till 2025. Nothing is going to be different next summer. We have FFP relaxation this season so it does not matter if we sign him now or next summer. This is why I think we will go all in for him very soon... A year less on the contract could mean a lower fee and the way transfers work mean that any fees are spread over the contract length so its more money pushed into later seasons which is ideal. So the year could make some difference. We need some more confirmed outgoings I think before we start to pursue others, but I think we will get them soon ish. Personally I think rice will be way too high of an asking price and I don't rate him anywhere near what most people do but I'm happy to be proven wrong. bigbluewillie

He's a much lower fee. Much less risk. And statistically can't be worse than kepa last season. What's the alternative you're proposing? Jype 6,398
23 minutes ago, whats happening said: so what happens if he suck too? we will have two keepers with 4+ years remaining contract Mendy won't be too expensive to shift on like Kepa. Bought for a £20-25M fee he could be sold for 10-15M in a couple years without taking too much of a financial hit on the clubs books unlike Kepa who'd make the club fail FFP immediately if he was sold for £20M now (Kepa has remaining book value of £50M so that would record a £30M loss in a single financial year from one transfer alone). Or if Mendy fails to live up to expectations of first choice keeper he could just be kept as a good backup, no way he's so horribly bad that he can't even be relied on as a 2nd choice. And either way he can't possibly do worse than Kepa last season so any improvement is already worth some investment.
Thermae00 1
3 hours ago, R2D2 said: The only problem is he is not a top player, actually not even close. Exactly. To me he is another Dier. Sure he is young and promising but does he have pace/skills/dribble/passing/press-resist to be a top player. No. He is tad slow imo. To be a top CB, he lacks strengths and speed. To be a top CM, he lacks speed, skills, passing and press-resist abilities. He belongs to Drinkwater in his heyday, Eric Dier group. Might shine at lower level teams but lacks key element to be a top top player. I rather roll dice for Zakaria next year who will have one year remain on his contract. Should be gettable for 40m next year. He is a bull. Super fast and strong. Can carry the ball forward like Bakayoko and runs like Ramires. Knows how to protect pocket space. His passing is not spectacular but his other abilities are top qualities. I can see within 2 years he goes out and become best #6 in the world barring injury. Rice? Meh.. kc_blue

NikkiCFC 8,318
In our new squad numbers from 1 to 24 only 16 left available. And guess what number Mendy is wearing? 😏
ZAPHOD2319 4,814
According to French newspaper Ouest-France (via Inside Futbol), they have identified a name to fill the gap left by Mendy’s departure, Granada’s Rui Silva. The former Portugal U21 international was named the best goalkeeper in the Spanish second division two years ago, and also played a big role in Granada finishing in the European spots in La Liga last season as well. Unionjack 7,531
Well as I think I managed to watch 4 games last season (and gotta admit Im glad I missed alot of our sad home game defeats especially) You dont know how excited I am with this window. I remember it was electric up in MH when Cescy and Diego came. We all felt something good was going to happen. Well I got that same feeling/ I honestly NEVER thought we stood a cat in hells chance at Werner - let alome Havertz!! OK Id have loved Telles instead of Chilwell and would give my left dangley for KK next to Thiago (Id have even played Sarr than most current options) and Rice as CDM but Im not greedy. Lets just hope they all gel well. Cant wait to see them all on together. Going to be a interesting season! kellzfresh, 1chelsea and DDA
