King Kante 1,643
2 hours ago, Vesper said: we have the most complicated CB situation in the big 5 leagues potentially in a great way I agree that we need Rice MUCH more at DMF than CB Silva (will only be here two years max, as he surely will not play much when he is 38 years of age) Zouma (long term he must be sold, hopefully next summer, as he is simply not good enough and we will have plenty of others in the mix) Christensen (must be sold soon, he simply is not going to work out, barring a miracle) Rudiger (the CB with the most to prove, he simply must come good again thsi year as he and Silva, if they play to potential, are the two best we have (barring a hail mary Skriniar buy/swap deal) Tomori (huge enigma, wtf happened to him with Lamps? Loan him out I guess) Ampadu (he can pprove me wrong , and I hope he does, but he looks to be a bust atm. That said, he is SO young, and I still have some hope (DMF might ne his position) Clarke-Salter (I see a sale in his future, he is not starting Chels CB quality IMHO, but again, hope he proves me wrong, I have zero against the lad, he just should have 'popped' by now, he is 23yo in 2 weeks, time is tights) Sarr (IF he does extremely well on his loan spell, he might negate one of my projected buys) Mbuyamba (He has the most upside of any CB we have had since Terry, but is not a sure thing, but IF he comes good, we have a top 5 or top 10 CB on the planet on our hands) given all that, only time will tell if we even need to go after Upamecano or Skriniar or (as I stated before a real wild card) Theo Hernandez shifted to a LCB from LB (and he can be our backup LB if Chilwell cannot go) or Giminez or Ginter or Tapsoba or anyone else not listed and finally also IF we even will slide Rice over to CB I really do not get why you are so down on Amapdu. Everytime he actually plays he is decent. Injuries have been his real problem. There are questions over whether he can play CB with his height but I think he is good enough with the ball to play DMF. At the worst, he will be a usable squad player when he gets to his peak or a top player for a mid-ranking PL club. 2 hours ago, Special Juan said: Now confirmed by Romano, the deal for Mendy close and Rice the next target. If we pull off Rice as well as a GK (who is good) then it will seriously be time to unzip. 2 hours ago, Rapkun said: The fee could reach up to 28M euros after bonuses according to The Guardian. That's a bit much IMO. If that's true, I fail to understand how Mendy is seen as a cheap alternative while Onana is rumoured to be available for around 30. Onana is like a teflon GK, the ball doesn't stick with him. Sure, he makes saves but a lot of them end up going back into a dangerous area. 1 hour ago, NikkiCFC said: Those hands make the ball look like one of those little balls you buy u8's to play with. Especially during corners, having a tall guy that can catch balls might be a way to solve our weakness. killer1257 3,282
Oh? Thought you weren't convinced about Mendy? [emoji185]I am not really convinced, but this is my conclusion why I think Cech wants him. I cannot see another reason right now, but I have only seen him play once. But I accepted that we will get him. Still a huge improvement in many ways. 75% save percentage and almost Nick Pope level when it comes to catching balls. On twitter though, people were analyzing that statistic and what the majority are saying is that Rennes do not play from the back. They hoof the ball up always. The GK takes long kicks Majority of the time. This makes sense with the 52% passing completion because aerial duals are usually 50/50. I highly doubt a professional GK who plays in a team That builds from the back will have a 52% completion rate. I mean, even if you and I were in goal that would be near impossible simply because 80% of the time youll pass to your open defenders who have no-one marking them if youre set up tactically as a team who plays possession and builds from the back. Dimitr 488
Everyone is better than kepa and caballero. Also we will buy for sure Rice ( or someone else) because we loaned out Ampadu and we haven’t rotation for kante and cb.
Pizy 18,903
Long as he can do the basic distribution adequately we should be fine. Stuff like spraying simple passes out when he's under no pressure. We probably have to hold our breath if there are ever quick attackers pressing right up in his face, though. Really seems like an obvious short fix, can't imagine the club seeing him as our no. 1 for the next years. Doesnt match the ambition we've shown otherwise.. Dimitr 488
We can’t spend another 100m for a gk after 5 signings and after 200++ m transfer spend . Also Rice would cost 60m-70m€ so 25m€ for mendy +60m€ for rice =100m€ perfect for me kellzfresh, oldportblue and Muzchap
Popular Post! Hutcho 8,443 Posted September 7, 2020 Popular Post! Share Posted September 7, 2020 He's a 20 mil stop gap. He's not brought in to be amazing he's brought in to not be the reason we lose games and be an average level goalkeeper of which will be more than worth it. Put it this way. We've spent 200 mil on attackers spending 20 mil on a keeper to concede 10 less than kepa will probably be like 10 points difference. He's not gonna be amazing but he doesn't need to be Jype, Fernando, Muzchap and 4 others

oldportblue 547
I don't like the PL proven narrative, that's what leads to mindfuck decisions like Torres being chosen ahead of Aguero or Rooney being targeted before Diego Costa (thankgod United saved us from ourselves on that one).we want all out for aguero but couldn’t get him... not as if we could have had either and decided to go for torres over him Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

oldportblue 547
Very positive news on Rice from fabrizio today! that we still want him this window I mean...If we manage rice this window, and any decent gk (even if its for competition for kepa and not necessarily first choice) this will have been an 11/10 transfer windowall thanks to this don (and marina, lamps and PC too of course):Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Fernando and DDA
