€8m signing proves his worth with latest dominant showing as Chelsea’s South American scouts come up trumps again

There were a few eyebrows raised when Chelsea swooped in the summer to make Aaron Anselmino the latest addition to their roster of South American talents. Not because he wasn’t highly rated, but because he hadn’t played much.

Signed for €8m and loaned straight back to Boca Juniors, it was seen as quite the risk given how few games the 19 year old had played at that point. Unlike someone like Estevao Willian, Anselmino was not yet a regular for his club, so Chelsea’s move was somewhat surprising.

However since then his progress has continued, and we’re delighted to see he’s now first choice for the Argentine giants. He’s played 10 of 20 possible games for Boca, and has only missed one start since the start of October.

Those minutes are serving him well – he’s making great progress, and despite a 1-0 defeat to Lanus on Sunday night, the centre back looked really solid.

You can see his highlights from the game in the clip embedded here. A full 5 minutes of action gives you some idea of how much of the ball he saw.

What we love to see from developing talent

There are a few really pleasing things to note from the highlights here. Firstly what is obvious is his comfort on the ball. We’re spoiled given we’ve got Levi Colwill in the team right now, but Anselmino looks exceptionally comfortable and composed, especially given he’s pretty tall.

That height helps him in the air, but he’s got a decent turn of pace too, and given how open Boca’s formation often is, he needs to use it. The decision to leave him in South America on loan always seemed like a smart one, and we wouldn’t be at all against him having another 12 months if he keeps developing and keeps playing.

A side playing a mid to low block allowed him 25 meters to carry the ball into. This he proceeded to do, mostly without challenge. After taking the metres on offer he then mostly played a straightforward pass at the end of his run. I've seen things from this lad which impressed me, but not in this video. It could well be an extrapolation too far, but the way the opposition set up against him suggests they didn't fear what he could do with the ball if given time and space.

🚨 The noises coming out of Chelsea from the early days of pre-season were that Axel Disasi was not considered technical enough to play in Enzo Maresca’s system. His selection over the first 5 months of the campaign has done nothing to dispel that notion.💵 Benoît Badiashile remains highly valued at Chelsea despite falling below Colwill and Fofana in Maresca’s pecking order. The internal consensus is that he continues to make positive developmental strides and, at 23, has his best years ahead of him.🗯

Exclusive: Euro giants in talks to sign Chelsea star that Enzo Maresca would prefer to keep

https://www.caughtoffside.com/2024/12/05/benoit-badiashile-transfer-marseille/

Chelsea-Benoit-Badiashile-breaking-news-

Chelsea defender Benoit Badiashile is facing an uncertain future at the club as two major European teams show an interest in him ahead of the January transfer window.

Sources with a close understanding of Badiashile’s situation have informed CaughtOffside that Marseille have held initial talks over signing the France international, while he’s also on Juventus’ list of potential targets.

However, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is understood to rate Badiashile highly, and would like to keep faith in him, even if he’s yet to show his best form for the Blues.

“Massive impact” – Enzo Maresca earns special praise from former Chelsea star

Badiashile looked like an outstanding young talent during his time at former club Monaco, but it hasn’t quite happened for him in the Premier League just yet.

Still, Maresca would rather keep Badiashile for a bit longer and give him more chances to develop, though the 23-year-old’s sale could be sanctioned by the club if they receive a good enough offer.

Will Benoit Badiashile leave Chelsea and return to France?

Benoit-Badiashile-in-action-for-Chelsea-

Even if Juve are also hovering in the background, it seems Marseille are showing the strongest interest in Badiashile at the moment.

The former Monaco man won’t necessarily get the move, but it’s easy to imagine that he might be tempted to return to Ligue 1 to try to revive his career after difficulties in English football.

Even if Badiashile is a quality player, it might be that the move to Chelsea came a bit too soon for him, and that he still needs a bit more time to develop his game in a more comfortable setting.

Chelsea fans probably wouldn’t be too fussed about selling Badiashile, as they’ll probably feel that there’s more than enough depth in that position anyway.

Maresca may rate Badiashile, but he also has Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana, Axel Disasi and Tosin Adarabioyo as options in central defence, so it’s an exit they could easily bounce back from.

Badi has looked really good the last two games.

Much like how many wrote off Cucu and Caicedo, maybe we should give him time. Unlike the other two I mentioned, I'll admit I wrote of Badi. I've been super impressed with his last two games and think he'll come good.

Yes I think he has improved.

I much rather sell Dissasi and Chillwell at this time before him.

Although I'm not sure if he is good enough to have as number one in the future, but he is more of a back up. And for a back up if we get a good amount of money for him then we should sell.

If not he is good to have around.

Exclusive: Arsenal & Chelsea eyeing three same transfer targets, including star who terrorised Liverpool

https://www.caughtoffside.com/2024/12/05/alexander-isak-transfer-alternatives/

Alexander-Isak-Victor-Osimhen-and-Dusan-

Arsenal and Chelsea are both in the market for top signings up front, and have fallen upon a very similar list of targets, according to sources’ latest information to CaughtOffside.

The Gunners and the Blues are both very keen on Newcastle United front-man Alexander Isak, who scored a superb goal against Liverpool yesterday and also picked up an assist in a tremendous all-round performance up front.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot dealt HUGE blow after Newcastle clash

Isak is clearly one of the finest centre-forwards in Europe right now, but CaughtOffside understands that Arsenal and Chelsea might both struggle to afford the Sweden international’s high asking price of around €100m or more.

That being the case, both the London giants are also eyeing up some alternatives, while we have also been given information on how Newcastle could reinvest the big money they make from the potential sale of Isak.

Alexander Isak transfer: Arsenal and Chelsea eyeing alternatives, while Newcastle could replace him with another Swedish goal machine

Sources have told CaughtOffside that Newcastle would be ready to try an ambitious move for Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres if they lose Isak.

The Swedish star has been in superb form for Sporting in recent times and has also attracted interest from Manchester United and other top clubs.

Still, Newcastle would be willing to try their luck if they end up with significant money to spend and a need to replace a top talent like Isak.

Arsenal and Chelsea, meanwhile, are looking at other big names up front such as Galatasaray’s Victor Osimhen and Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic.

Player Goals so far this season
Alexander Isak 6 (14 games)
Viktor Gyokeres 24 (21 games)
Victor Osimhen 9 (11 games)
Dusan Vlahovic 9 (16 games)

Both are anticipated to be available for cheaper, at more like €75m, which could mean they represent better value for money than Isak overall.

While Isak has been a joy to watch in his time in the Premier League, his scoring record is arguably not quite as good as what we’ve seen from someone like Osimhen when he’s been at the peak of his powers.

Rodri tells Man City to use their millions to sign £48m talent Nico Williams

https://www.caughtoffside.com/2024/12/05/rodri-man-city-arsenal-nico-williams/

Nico-Williams-Arsenal-.jpg.webp

Athletic Club’s Nico Williams is one of the most sought-after players in European football at present following his exceptional 2023/24 campaign for both club and country.

The winger played a key role in Spain winning Euro 2024 in Germany this summer, which followed the 22-year-old’s displays that helped Athletic Club win the Copa del Rey last season.

Williams scored in the final of both competitions and his numbers overall last term were very impressive. Across the 37 matches he played for Athletic Club, the Spanish star produced eight goals and 19 assists.

This attracted the interest of several clubs during the summer transfer window with Barcelona and Arsenal among those looking to sign Williams.

Given their financial troubles, Barca could not get a deal done for the winger, which left the Gunners with an opportunity to sign the 22-year-old.

The Independent reported the North London club considered a move for the Athletic Club star during the last week of the summer window as the youngster has a £48m release clause in his contract.

However, Arsenal held off making a move for now as the Premier League club believed that the player didn’t want to leave Spain – which made La Liga president Javier Tebas happy – and that his medium-term aim was to go to Barcelona.

Following Man City’s struggles throughout the opening phase of the 2024/25 campaign, many expected the Premier League champions to strengthen their squad in 2025.

According to The Metro, Rodri has urged the Manchester club to make a move for his Spain teammate, Nico Williams. The midfielder knows how good the winger is and he must believe that the 22-year-old could make a difference at the Etihad Stadium.

The Spanish star is expected to leave Athletic Club next summer and it will be interesting to see if City make a serious offer, with Arsenal and Barcelona also in the race.
