Bayern director Christoph Freund on Joao Palhinha: “We wanted him last summer, but the priority now was to strengthen ourselves at the back. In addition, Alexander Pavlovic has already filled a good role. That’s why we believe we have a good alternative internally.”

At this point, I would take Karim and another experienced head in midfield, short term investment.

Our wage structure will not allow this. + Short-term loan fixes are not the way to go. We've seen it with Saul, Higuain, Falcao, Pato,  Sign a striker in their prime.

Just have a look at the Spanish Super Cup final tonight. The two goalscorers (4 goals between them) show this sort of thing still occurs today if you scout properly.

If Endrick lives up to the hype, they'd have stuck gold three times in a row while most of Europe was laughing at the amount of money they spent on kids.

It won't be three times in a row - they signed Reinier for 30 mln and he is a flop. Still having Vinicius and Rodrygo for one Reinier (not even counting Endrick yet) is a great bussiness

Wow, very slow window so far.

It feels like the biggest move of the window would be Benzema joining the PL from Saudi league.   I don't see many clubs splashing the cash in the January window as it's usually squad depth or a different option due to injuries.

Karim is a different type of player than the others you mention. Essentially, Pato, Falcao and Saul were broken by the time we got them. Higuain was never in the class of Karim and he was already gone in terms of his body.

At this moment, the thing we need more than anything else is experience and a bit of quality. Buying another young player or a player with little experience/delivery in big environments is absolutely not the answer. For me, this window should have us signing two players (CM and CF) on loan that have been there and done it, in order to guide the young boys and help on on the pitch when we start to lose confidence. Karim is probably the only player available I trust to do that, so long has he hasn't been hammering the Shisha since going to Saudi.

True. Karim didn't have major injury but he is 36. A lot older than all of the dud loans. There's a possibility he won't able to cope with the demands of the league even. And we will need to change the striker again in the summer and start all over again.

Signing a 27-29 year old will also bring in the experience and has a better chance of working out medium term.

Time to call our old fella Eto'o then.

But on a serious note, while I'm afraid Benzema may repeat Higuain story, it's still an optimistic sign someone at the club decided (and enforced) to proactively act, instead of pushing for 67 12yo Brasilians and clearing some Brighton's third squad this window again, aka. the vision.
