Sky Sports reporting United have agreed a deal for Rabiot so I would assume they're moving on from De Jong now.

I think De Jong would be an outstanding signing if we could get him and really answers a lot of question marks over the makeup of our midfield from next season onwards with Jorginho's and Kante's contracts expiring.

However I don't think it's a position we should force a move. There may be some excellent options come up on the market next summer, namely Bellingham and Rice who we could look to position ourselves to try and buy.

So for me this summer it's De Jong or no one in midfield, and as a result we're in a position really where we can wait it out and see whether Barca try to force him out or not.

No, they haven't.

As things stand, there isn't any agreement between Juventus and United for Adrien Rabiot. Both clubs are still talking.

If Rabiot is their alternative to De Jong rather than someone they want in addition to De Jong then they’re even more incompetent than I thought they were. I simply can’t believe that’s the case. They surely want both.

I think the club were fine getting any decent fee for Werner. The only way we were ever going to get big money for him was if some other PL club came in for him which didn’t end up happening.

We’re probably just happy to get his £290k per week or whatever it was off our books.

The wages are a significant calculation in FFP. With the amount of spending the club is doing, it becomes a real factor. We will probably see more players selling under valued to clear the wage bill.

The problem with these deals is that so much gets leaked from multiple sources to try and make the buyer look like they're striking as good and cheap a deal as possible and the seller to look like they're getting a good transfer fee and selling as high as possible.

The base fee seems to be going up and down at will but I would assume that with the bonuses the total of the deal would be close to £25-30m.

Definitely shouldn't be underestimated how big it is to get two of the biggest earners off the wage bill this coming year when they've been two of the biggest under achievers last season.

The other high earner I believe in that top tier bracket is Kante and he could well be gone this time next year too.

he had 3 years left of contract

a feed around 30M would be OK but not 20M....

very little money for him.

Three years left on a £270K/wk deal which is a lot higher than he deserves based on his performances over the last two years. Even the highest paid players at Leipzig are on half of that so even if Werner accepts a wage cut they'll probably still have to offer him a high signing fee to join them. They simply can't afford to pay a high transfer fee and pay Werner high wages as well.

The transfer fee is said to be 20M€ with bonuses taking it up to 30M€ so depending on how those bonuses are structured it might still be a decent enough total fee. These reports are from the German journalists who broke the news first, let's wait to see what the likes of Law and Ornstein say on the fee.
