Vesper 31,010 Posted yesterday at 13:19 Share Posted yesterday at 13:19 Should Chelsea use their buy-back for Diego Moreira? Maybe for another reason? https://siphillipstalkschelsea.substack.com/p/should-Chelsea-use-their-buy-back Chelsea apparently have a very favourable buy-back option to bring Diego Moreira back to Stamford Bridge. According to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, Borussia Dortmund are among the clubs to have Diego Moreira on their shortlist for the summer. He states that Moreira is planning a move in the upcoming window, with a potential fee in the region of €30–40 million. Chelsea are believed to hold a very favourable buy-back option. I mean, of course they do. It’s literally their own club that they have ‘agreed’ the option with! It’s very easy for them to transfer players between Chelsea and Strasbourg. So, should Chelsea sign Moreira back? Maybe they should sign him back to sell him for profit? Or maybe they need to just let Strasbourg have that profit? I didn’t rate Moreira AT ALL when he arrived at Chelsea. I seriously thought he was awful and didn’t even look like a footballer. But he’s since improved a lot and has been decent at Strasbourg. Perhaps being in a league that is nowhere near as tough has really helped him. But he’s also clearly developed as a player. But for me, no, I’d not be signing him back at Chelsea. We need to upgrade our left side in the attacking areas this summer, and by that I mean SERIOUSLY upgrade with a guaranteed starter who is MUCH better than what we have out there right now - a needle mover. What’s your thoughts? mkh

Fulham Broadway 17,720
Chelsea are set to change their transfer policy this summer after a number of complaints from first team stars over the lack of experience in the squad. The Blues have spent more than €1.5 billion on players since the takeover by Clearlake Capital in 2022 but they have not signed a player over the age of 26 since the first summer under their new owners. Chelsea have the youngest average age by some distance in the Premier League and the oldest player in the squad currently is 28-year-old Tosin Adarabioyo, with the club’s transfer strategy to target younger players instead. However, Chelsea have had a number of disappointing results and performances this season which led to defender Marc Cucurella voicing his frustration at the ‘lack of experience’ that has cost his side during the campaign. Cucurella’s comments came around the same time Enzo Fernandez was disciplined by Chelsea for his comments fuelling speculation about a move to Real Madrid and it has led to fears over the long-term vision of the squad. However, according to the BBC, Chelsea have assured Cucurella and captain Reece James that they will make ‘experienced’ signings at centre-back, midfield and attack this summer in order to appease matters. Vesper 31,010
You can't argue with this 'perfect example' of why Chelsea's strategy is 'simply ridiculous' The winger position is one of the biggest we've messed up https://siphillipstalkschelsea.substack.com/p/you-cant-argue-with-this-perfect I mean, you can also put the defence, goalkeeper, and even the strikers in that category above as well, which is even more ridiculous. But for this example, we are focusing on wingers. Pablo Espinosa San Mauroc, who contributes for Radio Marca and Diario AS in Spain, posted on his X account last night whilst watching the Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich game in the Champions League. He was watching Michael Olise ball out for Bayern once again and of course, we as Chelsea fans know fully well that he is a player that we should have signed when we had a really good chance to. We came VERY close, but fumbled it. Pablo posted on his X account last night: “Instead of Olise, Chelsea ended up signing Pedro Neto (who still seemed like a good signing to me), Joao Félix, and Jadon Sancho. The following summer, Alejandro Garnacho and Jaime Gittens arrived. “In total, they cost 220 million. Olise, 54M. No matter how high a salary the Frenchman demanded, this is the perfect example to highlight that Chelsea’s strategy, so focused on signing young players with low salaries, is sometimes simply ridiculous.” And it’s true, whether you agree with the wage structure or not, and many do (I see why), this above to me is just a fact. Top players command top wages, it’s just how it is. Just look at the situation with Enzo Fernandez, he’s a top player who will command a top wage. It’s just how the game is. Can you win things without paying the top wages? Yes, we have won things already. But can you have sustained success without paying the top wages? Only time will tell if this changes but right now, that answer is no. Can you successfully run a football club by paying top wages and not having a strict wage structure that Chelsea have? Of course you can…. But there are so many financial restrictions so this is why I say that I do understand the wage limits we have in place. But it’s a tough balancing act and right now, we are just not balancing it. Also, keeping players happy when we aren’t having sustained success when other clubs come in and start offering them bigger wages, is a REAL problem that will prove to be impossible. That example above is something I don’t think can be argued. The winger recruitment has been a HUGE failure so far for this lot. Just because we don’t pay big wages, doesn’t mean we couldn’t have signed better wingers in general.
Vesper 31,010
Liverpool, Chelsea, and Tottenham are all understood to be in talks over a potential free transfer swoop for Bournemouth centre-back Marcos Senesi. https://www.caughtoffside.com/2026/04/08/marcos-senesi-liverpool-Chelsea-spurs/ Sources with a close understanding of the situation have provided me with an update on Senesi’s situation after I previously reported on Chelsea exploring a deal. The 28-year-old looks to have a growing list of options available to him, with Liverpool and Spurs also touching base with his representatives ahead of a potential summer move. Depending on who you talk to, though, it seems a move to La Liga is considered more likely, with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid felt to be leading the race for his signature. Marcos Senesi transfer situation explained “Senesi is yet to make a final decision on his future, but Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have been in talks for some time,” one source said. “I wouldn’t rule out Premier League clubs just yet, but a move to Spain is more likely.” “Keep an eye on Chelsea because they’re growing increasingly aware of the need to add some experience. With Senesi set to be available on a free he’s an ideal candidate,” another source explained. Meanwhile, Liverpool and Tottenham are both keen amid doubts over their current defensive options, with Ibrahima Konate heading towards the end of his contract, while Cristian Romero is understood to be likely to leave Spurs this summer. Even if Konate signs a new deal with LFC, they could do with more options at the back after a dip in form from the ageing Virgil van Dijk. Marcos Senesi wants playing time and big contract It’s also my understanding that Senesi could have very high wage demands as he prepares to make his next move, with this likely to be the last big contract of his career. It remains to be seen which club is most willing to give the Argentine the kind of money he wants, but it will be an important factor, as will playing time. Senesi has shown himself to be a key performer at Bournemouth and one source described him as “very confident he can shine at a higher level.” It will be interesting to see which club can offer Senesi the kind of role he wants, but it’s certainly easy to imagine him having a positive impact and playing regularly for a variety of top teams. Vesper 31,010
Report: Chelsea lead Premier League charge for teenage sensation Said El Mala https://www.caughtoffside.com/2026/04/08/report-Chelsea-premier-league-charge-sensation/ As the summer transfer window rapidly approaches, Chelsea’s relentless pursuit of Europe’s premier young talent shows absolutely no signs of slowing down. According to recent reports from the German outlet Bild, the Blues are maintaining a strong, active interest in FC Cologne’s breakout forward, Said El Mala. The 19-year-old has been a magnificent revelation in the Bundesliga this season, registering a highly impressive 10 goals in 28 league appearance, a clinical return that has inevitably placed him firmly on the radar of several top-flight English clubs. Said El Mala is a rising star in Germany El Mala’s rapid ascent from academy prospect to first-team regular has been nothing short of spectacular. Hitting double digits in one of Europe’s top five leagues as a teenager is a surefire way to command a premium valuation in the modern market. For Chelsea, who have heavily prioritised long-term, high-ceiling investments under their current ownership, securing a talent like El Mala matches perfectly with their overarching strategic vision at Stamford Bridge. Meanwhile, reports suggest that his representatives have turned down an approach from Newcastle United, indicating that the player’s camp may be carefully considering the right long-term destination rather than rushing into negotiations. Chelsea face competition from Premier League clubs However, the West Londoners are far from the only suitors closely monitoring the teenager’s progress. A fierce domestic bidding war is quietly brewing, with Brighton & Hove Albion, Brentford, and Everton all registering concrete interest. Brighton and Brentford, in particular, possess stellar, data-driven reputations for identifying, nurturing, and eventually profiting from undervalued continental gems. By potentially offering a much clearer, less congested pathway to regular first-team minutes than Chelsea can provide, these clubs present a highly tempting alternative for a young player still navigating the critical early stages of his professional career. Interest in El Mala is not limited to England. Scouts from across Europe are believed to be tracking his progress, particularly after his consistent contributions in the Bundeslig, a league known for developing attacking talent at a rapid pace.
