Chelsea reportedly still have a firm interest in the potential transfer of Brighton striker Evan Ferguson, despite his worrying drop-off in form.

The talented young Republic of Ireland international looked like a huge prospect just over a year ago, but he’s really struggled in front of goal in recent times, finding the back of the net just twice in his last 17 games in all competitions for club and country.

Still, it seems that not only are Chelsea still interested in Ferguson, but that Brighton would also still ask for as much as £100million for him, according to a report from TEAMtalk.

Ferguson is not the only name on Chelsea’s radar as they look for signings up front, with Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap also mentioned by TEAMtalk.

Still, the long-standing interest in Ferguson is surprising, and the Blues surely need to be very careful about forking out huge money for the 20-year-old after his total loss of form.

If Ferguson gets back to his best soon, then perhaps he would be someone worth looking at, but it’s debatable if he’s ever looked like someone who should be being talked about as a £100m player.

For that kind of money, Chelsea could surely land proven elite players to come in and give them an upgrade on Nicolas Jackson, who has improved a lot this season but for whom there are perhaps still a few question-marks.

TEAMtalk’s report also mentions Victor Osimhen, and that’s surely the calibre of player you’d expect to be getting if you spend anywhere close to £100m, while CFC fans will also surely have their own ideas about potential targets.

Other big names like Viktor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak are both exciting attacking talents who could strengthen this Chelsea side, but the club’s apparent fascination with Ferguson shows a worrying lack of judgement.

Delap only becomes possible if Ipswich get relegated - not sure they will. He is either their best or second best player and staying in the league is worth £100m+ per year. Can't see them selling until he had two years left. 

As for CF, I am happy with Jackson. Guy keeps in improving and has shown good attitude when everyone got on his back - the pen thing last season was more on Poch not making it clear who the pen taker was. 

For me, CB and GK is what we need to solve. In fact, I would even limit that to GK. Sanchez is an absolute joker, who doesn't do either thing we need him to - play passes or save shots - and no, I am not taking a good save here and there whilst he let's in goals at his near post (Arse), falls over like a spastic at Anfield for their second and runs out like a crack head chasing down his dealer against Brighton at home. If Jorgensen is honestly worse than him then the guys scouting need to be sacked asap and we need to bring Petro back in Jan or play some kid from the youth team. Maybe the kid will be worse but at least we can say is is young and not some 27 year old that analytic team is expecting to Pokemon evolve at any sudden moment.

Agreed.

Unless it's a striker outputting crazy numbers like Gyokeres, I wouldn't be happy to see us spend such a large amount on an unproven player.

Not when Jackson is still capable of delivering. If someone has to come in, it has to be a clear upgrade. 

And enough of the obsession with overpaying for Brighton products.

I've read that Delap has got a £20 million buy back clause with City. If so, offer Ipswich the chance to double their money with a £40 million bid.

If I remember correctly, we did something similar with Kante. He had a release clause for Champions League clubs, Chelsea offered more than that release (they didn't qualify for the Champions League that year), to stop him going to elsewhere and to ensure that Leicester were motivated to sell.

Michael Jackson is better than Delap , Ferguson and Duran so  either go and buy a world class striker or don't waste your time with another mid-table player from Brighton .

I agree with CB and GK but I for one am not happy with Jackson being our only recognizable ST. Especially with Champions League football next season. 

Fact of the matter is I doubt we will be in for Gyorkeres, let alone if the player even wants to join us given our wage structure. Delap for £30-40m for me seems like a no brainer. Possess a lot of good qualities and has attributes that make him a more potent box threat than Jackson.

Yes the directors are doing good with strikers and target they want. Even in the mid and wingers. 

But they need to get ASAP a good director with defense. As well with set piece like Arsenal did and now they are good at this.
