Muani IMO is probs the best option available for Poch-ball, ticks all of the boxes: presses, drops deep to join play and assist, unselfish, from what I can see very nice guy with strong head on his shoulders, also outperforming his xG. I think he would be insane for Nkunku, Sterling, Mudryk, Madueke etc. Just probably also the reality that he is too expensive, if we're splurging £100m on Caicedo. Jonathon David is also an interesting option as he might be like half the price of Muani.

Vlahovic I am only interested if it is in some kind of deal for Lukaku where we kill two birds with one stone, he would have a long term Giroud-esque use in the squad but hard to imagine he could be our main man if we want to win the league in next years.

The problem with the striker market is that it just looks so poor currently. I don't think there is anywhere near the same volume of top tier strikers as there was in the last generation 5-10 years ago.

If there was someone who felt a 'surefire' thing, like Harry Kane for example, I'd say go for it. But with regards to realistic transfers, that just doesn't appear to be there.

Kolo Muani looks a good player but I wouldn't be betting on him to take up the mantle of the club's main source of goals. Vlahovic has been poor since his move to Juventus, yet they're expecting to at least get their money back for him. The fees being quoted for these two and others is just obscene, and hugely high risk if they don't pay off.

In my opinion, Nkunku is a more proven player and goal scorer than either of the above or anyone else realistic on the market. We need to set up in the right way to maximise his talents (in my opinion having him play alongside or just behind a striker), but he should be the marquee attacker this summer.

If the club has a plan with regards to a striker signing and are confident in it then fine, but it'll be a hugely backwards step spending huge money on a striker this summer if the right one isn't available.

And to think every club just let City walk into the transfer market and pick up not one but two top class finishers on the cheap!

David is an interesting option but I don't think he's a huge upgrade on young Jackson who we've signed from La Liga.

If we're looking for a short term option, I wouldn't mind getting Ben Yedder from Monaco, still a very good finisher in front of goal.

Lukaku date set for arrival at Cobham moved to next Monday July 17th hope and expectation that the deal will be done by then to Inter

Moved? Is that the "ending of player power" that was talked for entire season? Fine him week's wages for every day he is not here and let him self finance the tiny part of his move this way.

He’s already shown a lot of great attributes but also needs the right partner to give him a bit more of a freer role.

Its only been 6 months but it does look like it will become a very good investment in the long run if he can keep kicking on and performing as he has been. Would of been sickening seeing him elsewhere.

Still without the release clause, he’d maybe of cost half as much. Or £60-70m at a push. Thats the reality of it. Argentina winning the World Cup with him being a regular fixture didn’t help either. Market is inflated though but even then I think paying a combined £200m for him and Caicedo (if we get him) is still be pretty extreme. Caicedo is never a £100m midfielder - ever. Although a good player.

Mental to think though that £100m+ transfers like Enzo, Rice, Grealish and Caicedo probably wouldn’t even be £50m 10 years ago.

Caicedo is basically Kante and we got him for £30m Brighton request is a gross overstatement of his abilities

Keeps him away from being cancerous around the team is how I'm seeing it, giving all parties time to sort the deal out

Ideally he only goes to Cobham if the entire real squad is in USA so there is literally no crossover. I don't think it is good for him either to train with the lads. If you're training against him wouldn't you go in hard, after what he did, and given his attitude?

No need to cut your nose off to spite your face, aslong as his infectious disease isn't around the first team, I'm all for it.

Mauricio Pochettino ‘personally’ blocks Chelsea sensation’s summer exit

Mauricio Pochettino has personally blocked Ian Maatsen from leaving Chelsea

https://www.astamfordbridgetoofar.com/2023/07/mauricio-pochettino-has-personally-blocked-ian-maatsen-from-leaving-Chelsea/

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has personally blocked Chelsea sensation Ian Maatsen from leaving Stamford Bridge in the summer window, putting Marc Cucurella’s future at the club atrisk.

As per Caught Offside, (h/t Football.London) the Argentine manager wants to examine the 21-year-old’s performance in pre-season before making a decision on his future. If Maatsen remains, he could fight for playing time with the former Brighton & Hove Albion full-back next season.

The former Tottenham Hotspur manager blocked Maatsen’s potential return to Burnley this summer as the Clarets aim to make the most of their time back in the Premier League It is also understood that if the Dutch player remains at Chelsea, it could hamper Cucurella’s future at the club. The Spaniard is already linked with a move away after a poor debut season in Blue.

Given that the Blues already have Ben Chilwell and Cucurella, Maatsen, who experienced a significant advance period at Burnley will add significant depth to the position. Pochettino clearly has every reason to look at every player at his disposal before making a decision.

Lewis Hall could also be another option at left-back. However, should Maatsen end up staying, he could struggle to break into the first XI, even for cup games. What exactly this means to the senior players on the roster remains to be seen.

After convincing at Burley under Vincent Kompany, Maatsen deserves a chance to stay at Chelsea. However, that will largely depend on how well he performs during the pre-season. If Pochettino sticks with his choice to keep the Dutch full-back, Cucurella will undoubtedly have a volatile future at Chelsea given how difficult it will be to distribute playing time among four left-backs.

Ben Chilwell smashes pre-season fitness test, looks one of the sharpest in the team

https://www.thechelseachronicle.com/club-news/50m-Chelsea-player-smashes-pre-season-fitness-test-looks-one-of-the-sharpest-in-the-team/

Chilwell emerged as one of the top performers in Mauricio Pochettino’s Gacon test as Chelsea players began work at Cobham.

That is according to Nizaar Kinsella of the Evening Standard.

So, what is the latest on Ben Chilwell at Chelsea? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the £50m man is a very fit footballer – he even used to run for England at school.

Now, Chilwell has maintained that superb fitness over the summer, as he returns to Cobham to smash Pochettino’s Gacon test.

For those of you asking what the Gacon test is exactly, it was invented by Georges Gacon, a French fitness coach who worked at PSG before the Argentine signed for the French giants during his playing days.

Pochettino later adopted the Gacon test to use for himself as a manager, having experienced it as a player.

It involves getting the players to run for 45 seconds before having a 15 second rest – the distance they cover then increases 6.3 metres each time from an initial 150 metres, with the aim being to improve endurance, according to The Athletic.

Chilwell is said to have been among the best performers in the Gacon test, which bodes very well for Chelsea after the England international missed 13 Premier League games through injury last season.

Pochettino has big plans for Chilwell at Chelsea

According to the Mirror, Pochettino views Chilwell as the ideal left-back for his preferred system, and wants the 26-year-old to become a key player at Stamford Bridge next season.

The Milton Keynes-born defender and Reece James are talented enough to become the best full-back duo in the Premier League, although injuries have prevented both from truly establishing themselves.

Hopefully, Pochettino can have the pair of England internationals available on a weekly basis next term, as Chelsea are a different side when Chilwell and James are fit.

while there is little proven wc quality in the striker market and we have repeatedly failed with speculative big money striker signings, the low risk, experienced back up striker signings often have worked. Oli was an absolute steal, always thought demba ba was decent, Remy was okay. The market for this kind of player is way bigger. Having a big target man to play off maximises Nkunku s strength and takes pressure off Broja/Jackson. Off the list Vesper provided there are  some picture perfect candidates for this role

Giroud was great. Ba was alright as was Eto’o. But then we’ve had plenty of flops when we’ve brought in older strikers. Falcao, Higuain, Auba.

For me the perfect profile is a mid-late 20’s striker. Someone who’s young enough to still grow with the team for years but also experienced enough to perform week in and week out at an elite level.

No more 19-21 year old kids, ffs. Kolo Muani at age 24 fits the bill.

Pass. There’s a report that Kolo Muani would cost near 100m and his club anyway want to keep him till 2024 when he will play Euros alongside Mbappe and will likely increase his transfer fee.
