I largely think this window has been terrible due to Tuchel being in charge, it seems we lack a consistent plan and vision.

Completely disagree. He identified the likes Sterling, Koulibaly, some top class CB’s and Raphinha as priority targets. The players he’s targeting are perfect for the way we play. The identification of players hasn’t been the issue. It’s the negotiating and signing part that has been dreadful. And I don’t think you can blame the coach for that since he has probably never been so involved in these matters before.

If the very first thing Boehly did when the takeover was complete was appointing a highly experienced DoF we’d surely be in a much better place right now.

It is his fault for perusing players that he couldn’t convince lol. We wasted incredible time this window chasing players that wanted either go elsewhere or stay at the their current club. Could have targeted Kounde from the get go, he would probably be a Chelsea player. Maybe prioritized Dembele.

Also lack of outgoing players. look at Conte he made it clear he wouldn’t waste time on players he didn’t want. Meanwhile Tuchel is wasting time with Bats, Barkley, Sarr, and Kennedy.

I am tired of the constant Tuchel aplologist on here, it’s never his fault. It’s either the players fault or the people above him, no accountability. Truth is if City won the CL final, people would look at his time here very uninspiring.

Based on quiet it is on the rumour mill I don't think we will sign anyone else.

I don’t think we’ll make another “wow” signing but I do think we’ll panic buy someone decent soon. Like Pavard. All the talk over the past few months about how active we’d be and how massive the investment would be turned out well… 😒

Oh, and I just saw on Twitter that Jesus scored a hat trick. He’s been scoring for fun all preseason. For the life of me I can’t understand why we didn’t make him a priority in addition to Sterling.

He's not blameless but this is misplaced. Agree - wasting time on Sarr, Kennedy, Bats especially over Vale, Gilmour was pointless.

But some perspective on the recruitment. Tuchel is not a recruiter and he was pushed into the role because of the circumstances - sale at the end of the season and no time to get a director in place. If we go fishing for quality players - Hakimi last season,  Sterling, Raphinha, K2 De Ligt - we have to accept Chelsea is not the big draw it once was for most players.

Among Tuchel's targets, only Kimpembe (he has coached him before) and Ake (didn't bid aggressively anyway) were the ones that were questionable. Dembele we were interested in but he signed for Barca even with a wage drop (would have been another pointless chase) and Kounde, I am not convinced is a huge mistake on Tuchel's part.

I just don’t think overall we’ve improved or taken a step back from last season. I can see us being equal parts great at times and frustrating/infuriating just like ‘21/‘22. We’ve kinda just maintained our level.

Our problem of course is that while we will have essentially treaded water the two sides who finished right on our tails last season have dramatically improved their squads. That’s not to say they’ve signed a bunch of stars I’m jealous of but they’ve both made a handful of buys that address their biggest weaknesses compared to us which was quality squad depth.

I can already envision match after match against the dross of the league where we dominate possession, have a dozen attempts on goal, and end up drawing because we don’t have goal scorers. Meanwhile, our two closest rivals for 3rd/4th have Kane/Jesus/Son/CR7.

In so many matches we will play poorly in we will draw. In matches Spuds/United/Arse play poorly in they’ll have star forwards to bail them out again and again. As we saw last season. It’s insane we haven’t addressed this.

Said before and I will say again, Jesus is fucking quality. He will be up there in the top scorers this season, elite player

Let's see how he does when it actually matters. Arteta's system turned Aubameyang and Lacazette from the most feared partnership in this league to memes.

@Tomo

I know you said top 4 would not be as difficult as people make it out to be, because the chasing pack (namely Arsenal & United) are hardly any better from last season.

Granted, Arsenal were poor in terms of chance creation last season, but now you have Gabriel Jesus scoring for fun in this team., in preseason at least.

Spurs have had Kane and Son for years while we haven't had a reliable 20 plus scorer yet they haven't gazumped us.

How is Jesus a safer bet for goals than Sterling? Especially with Arteta tax.

Also they finished right on our coattails because we had 5 tournaments to juggle alongside a massive injury crisis and unprecedented ownership crisis while they both only had the league to focus on.

Let's see what happens when it really matters.

For years now we've been getting told Arsenal have sorted themselves out and will gazump us and it never happens, even with us starting to offer some helping hands in the head to heads.

insane we are not making a move for him when all they want is around £58.8m

Yeah it's annoying that we chase a goose in Kounde, but do fuck all with regards to Skriniar.

Really wondering if someone in the club just decided that he doesn't fit the style of play..
