Although some of the ages were still off, it is a good point that some of their big players are pushing over the magic 30 number.

We do have a couple of our own mind (in terms of important players, not squad players) I'm pretty sure Silva will be 37 (although I see his game time being managed a lot more by Tuchel next season, particularly as there's a valid argument that Christensen could possibly go ahead of him), Azpi is 31, Kante is 30 and Jorginho is 30 mid-season.

I think where we do have the edge over City is the bulk of our main players are in their early 20's and arguably still haven't fully tapped into their potential so there should be more to come.

What I would say though about City is they have found themselves over the past couple of years in a similar position to us a few years ago when we had to replace a core group of players (Cech, Cole, Terry, Lampard, Drogba, etc) in a short space of time. There was always a bit of a worry within our fan base when that time would come but we managed to get through fairly well and carried on winning trophies. City have been able to replace Kompany and David Silva without really missing a beat, and we'll surely soon see what their plans are post-Aguero. I think given their resources when the time comes to replace these players they'll probably get it right more often than not.

Agree, but I wouldn't say they have replaced Silva. Torres may do so but he is blowing a bit hot and cold atm.

As for us, Dave has a replacement in James whole I also think he is the sort of player that will be like James Milner and Fernandinho in that he'll get to his mid 30's and still be fine. AC is a player I have always backed and I think he is capable of replacing Silva.

Midfield is the issue going forward. Billy if he develops properly should be able to replace Jorgi. Kante is irreplaceable but their are some options out there to replace him long term (but in a different fashion): Bellingham, Rice (personally not sold), those two French kids (at Monaco and Rennes) that everyone bangs on about that I haven't seen much of etc.

Ferran at 20/21 years of age

David Silva at same age

Silva only scored double digit league goals once in his career btw (2014/15 when he scored 12, but that year he scored none in any other competition)

3 other times he scored 10 goals exactly, all comps (2 of those were in 2 of his last three seasons with Citeh, 2017/18 and 2018/19)

he turned into an assist machine as soon as he came to Citeh in 2010/11 including his best year 2011/12, when he had 21 in all comps, plus 8 goals (the year they won the title in the last couple minutes of added time)

Camavinga could cost United just £25.7 million

https://www.unitedinfocus.com/transfer-talk/camavinga-could-cost-united-just-25-million/

Eduardo Camavinga could be available at a knockdown price.

We knew there would be a discount due to the French wonderkid having just one year left on his contract. But we had not thought the price could be this cheap.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano says Rennes may be willing to cash in for just 30 million Euros; that’s £25.7m.

Camavinga is one of the best young talents in European football and could be a long term replacement for Paul Pogba.

While he is not stylistically the defensive midfield player United need at present, he could grow into that role, or simply become a replacement for Pogba, short term or long term.

lol

Manure may get 2 players whose combined highest price point at one recent time was over £200m, for UNDER £100m

their combined age is 39, the same as Caballero, who actually turns 40yo in September, lol

and watch us shithouse our way to dropping £90-100m on Declan Rice alone

BUT

I am going to go out on a limb and say we do NOT buy Rice, maybe ever (or at least we never pay remotely that type of cash)

we let him go, released him, said he would never be good enough

he is NOT like Mbappe

he is NOT some otherworldly talent, he is a very solid ENGLISH DMF (a very rare thing these days, which adds to the hype, as after Rice and Kalvin Phillips you, INSTANTLY get into utter dogshit, Jake fucking Livermore, for instance, was a part-time England starter just a few years back, ffs) nothing more, nothing less

the embarrassment is too great to pay a unit (£100m, 2 units is £200m, etc etc etc) for a player we binned 7 years ago

Leicester got Boubakary Soumaré, whom Lamps had the hot n' bothereds for (and who was being quoted at as high as £60m, roflmaoo) for £18m, ffs

edit to add I am NOT saying I rated him ever, in fact I was completely against buying him

They've changed their formation to predominantly without a centre forward last season and without Silva there I'd say the biggest beneficiary has been Foden. I think he's certainly been viewed at their club as the one to take over from Silva in his own style.

It'll be interesting to see what they do next season. Will they replace Aguero with a new big name striker but then move away from what was successful last season or do they stick with what worked last year (in terms of a no striker style and formation) and will it remain as effective.

I just don't see 'it' in Camavinga.

In my opinion they need someone like Declan Rice more than we do. If we carry on with the back 3 formation then I don't think a bonafide DM is as necessary. Jorginho is better protected and whilst he isn't physically imposing or the most athletic, he's one of the most intelligent in that position and regularly puts up good numbers for interceptions, etc stopping attacks before they've really started.

For United they are desperate for a genuine holding DM to release Pogba and Bruno together. The likes of Mctominay and Fred aren't holders and Matic is way past his prime.

I just don't see Camavinga as that player, he'll be another to add to that midfield collection that can do a bit of everything but doesn't really seem to have a specialist role yet. Maybe United see that in him, he does have time on his side.

Camavinga can move with the ball and put pressure on the box like Kante with his pace. Rice can hold but he cannot move along and he lacks pace big time.
