Spuds have been especially fucked more than any club by COVID. Just built that new stadium, haven’t been able to have fans in to start offsetting that cost. Didn’t have the hugely lucrative NFL games and whatever other entertainment events that they had planned.

If a club comes in with say £100m and he puts in a transfer request I find it extremely hard to believe Levy could say no and force him to stay. They need the cash and the player (like Bale and Modric before him) has outgrown the club.

We could potentially luck out in that United just renewed Cavani as sort of a short term mentor for Greenwood who they view as the eventual #9 and want Sancho whereas City may not feel it necessary to spend mega money on Kane when they’ve just pissed the league with no striker and could still win the CL. Unless Liverpool miraculously find £100m by selling Salah we might be the only realistic option.

Harry Kane has again told Tottenham he wants to leave this summer.

Spurs are now making enquiries about replacement centre-forwards, in the first indication that the club are willing to consider the feelings of their 27-year-old talisman.

They do not want to sell their prized asset, but Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea have all been in touch with Kane's representatives CK66 expressing a desire to sign the England international.

 

Kane's preference is to remain in the Premier League and he wants to have his future resolved before turning out for England at this summer's European Championships in June.

Kane has made no secret in recent interviews that he wants to compete for Europe's top team trophies, having found them out of his grasp at both White Hart Lane and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

It is understood that Tottenham even persuaded Kane to delay plans that he harboured to leave last summer, after Jose Mourinho had replaced Mauricio Pochettino earlier in the 2019-20 season.

Spurs hoped their first full season under Mourinho would be a successful one, and they were top of the Premier League in December, but amid a Kane injury their form disintegrated and they are set to miss out on Champions League football again with a finish outside this year's top four.

A Tottenham spokesperson told Sky Sports: "We have a season to finish and we want to finish it as strongly as possible. That's all we are focused on."

Sky Sports News reported last week that United are not expected to target another centre-forward this summer after re-signing Edinson Cavani, preferring to focus on strengthening at centre-back and central midfield, amid an expectation that obtaining Kane will be too difficult and that Erling Haaland will stay at Dortmund.

Meanwhile, City also have Kane, Haaland, Romelu Lukaku and Danny Ings on their list as they look to replace Sergio Aguero. Chelsea too have been linked with Haaland, Lukaku and now Kane.

'The ball is in Tottenham's court'

Sky Sports News reporter Paul Gilmour:

"It's been no secret that Harry Kane has wanted to compete for the top honours, both as a team and individually. It's been a frustrating season for him personally. It hasn't happened for Spurs with Champions League qualification. It will be a second season that he hasn't had that.

"He is valued at well over £120m, probably, and the rest, if Spurs and Daniel Levy have anything to say about it because let's face it, the ball is in their court.

"He has a contract until 2024 and they will certainly, if somehow, they do agree to this, they will want to get their money's worth, of course.

"But we have been told Tottenham managed to persuade Kane to stay last summer when one English club came in for him, and they said to him they had Jose Mourinho for a full season, give it a go and let's see what happens. And clearly, as the season has gone on, it did not happen for Spurs and Mourinho has since left the club.

"Harry Kane has had a brilliant season under Mourinho personally, but as a team, they are not going to qualify for the Champions League. The chances are very slim.

"The season hasn't gone to plan and as the season developed, those feelings of wanting something else and wanting to move away have come to the forefront."

Whoever gets him will be instant favorites for the league. Not that City weren’t already, but if they got him it’s another 🔒 for the title. If United somehow, someway went bananas in the market and got him I think they’d be favorites.

And if we were able to put out an attack on any given match day consisting of some combo of Kane, Werner, Havertz, Mount, Pulisic, and Ziyech I think we’d be favorites.

No reason to get even a little bit excited over Kane, it's obvious Levy doesn't do business with Chelsea and the feeling is very much mutual from Roman's side too. Ever since the Luka Modric saga around ten years ago there's been no hope of the clubs ever doing any transfer business together so why would they all of a sudden sell one of their best ever players to us? 🤨

If they're willing to sell at all, this one has Manchester City written all over it. As a club they're as boring as they get so there'd be no ill will from Spurs fans either, not to mention they have the money needed to make the signing and with Aguero's departure they have an opening in the team for a top class striker to come in. And for Kane himself City would give him the highest chance of winning multiple trophies in the short-term.

Obviously I'd take Kane any day of the week but less than a 1% chance of it happening. It's either win the CL and go all-in for Haaland or alternatively try for Lukaku by taking advantage of Inter's financial problems. If all that fails then I have no idea what to do.

I don't think the price tag is the problem with Werner and Havertz. Don't recall anyone using their price tag to beat them with, even though Havertz is our most expensive signing. We just need to improve them and get more consistency out of them.

IIRC, was Modric not forced to stay at Spurs for like a season because they did not want to sell him to us and there weren't other offers? Can see something similar happen again this summer with Kane if no club are willing to spend that money. If no one are willing to spend 150m+ on Haaland, then it's unlikely they will do it with Kane, not when the effect of the pandemic is still being felt. If clubs wait for another season, they could likely get Haaland on a way cheaper price and for a longer term too.

If United are serious about challenging City for the title, then I'm not sure how realistic is it for them to rely on a 34-year-old and 19-year-old to spearhead that challenge. Given Kane's age, he might serve as perfect foil for those two and could be there long enough for Greenwood to gain experience and eventually take the #9 role.

We are not winning the title with that llump of a flat track bully leading the llne. Seriously, can you imagine the likes of City or Liverpool having that kind of player in their team? Not a chance in hell!

Chelsea was having problems with WBA defense. We're strulling and a equalize is written but look what happened. This is what top strikes can do. Win games from nowhere.

This is a prime example of why in the PL you need some big physical men playing in the forward positions. Out problem is that we are a complete bunch of lightweights these days. Absolute minimum we need is a physical CM and a physical CF (who can run, Giroud can't unfortunately.)

Have you forgotten Lukaku's first touch? It is still dire, it is just that he is playing in a slow ass league these days that he gets away with it. If he came here Tommy Boy would have a stroke with him playing up front. 

As for Kane, not going to happen boys and girls, even if Levy agrees to sell, he doesn't fit our age profile and he has a dodgy ankle. There is no guarantee you would get more than three years out of him in the PL, especially with how we get reffed.

I agree that we need to be physically stronger in the forward areas but do we really need big physical men? Liverpool and Man City have shown that it's not compulsory at all. Sometimes I feel like we're still stuck with this old mindset that we need a big physical striker upfront to thrive, to play in a style that revolves around strikers like that. It's little wonder why the only strikers to have succeeded for us in the last 15 years or so are basically strikers in that mould - Drogba and Costa.

Serious suggestion. Going into next season with no recognisable ST is going to end in disaster. I for one am not willing to take the chance on Havertz and Werner regaining form when neither of which have showed any signs they can handle the physicality and pace of the league consistently. 

We aren't getting Kane or Haaland. I think we need to come back to earth and make that abundantly clear. Lukaku is a disaster waiting to happen. We all know it.  Then there are Bundelisga fans are warning us to avoid Andre Silva. We may as well go for someone with relatively low risk who could potentially have some resale value.

I get the part about needing a recognized striker but Ivan Toney? Low cost or not, what makes you believe/think that he can make the step up from League One or Championship to the top end of the Premier League? This season is only his first season in the Championship and before this, he was playing at the lower level.

If we can't sign a high quality striker then we should until we can get one and spend the money on other positions in the team instead. Pointless blowing tens of million on an average striker just because we need another striker.
