NikkiCFC 8,336
Kante is not suited for that deeper solo role. And number 8 is not top3 preferable position for Kai. He would be wasted there imo. So we must use 4-2-3-1.

But this club is not an endless money pit, the signings we have made and the signings we are apparently making show me, 2 things. 1. The top dogs at this club support Frank 100% and are well prepared to back him. 2. This club is finally willing to spend on quality again rather than quantity. Silva on a free is an outstanding signing imo, Lampard was excellent at going forward and you see that reflect in the team, but he's no defensive God, silva can show the young ones how's it done, way better than any defensive coach Maybe... But we will have a problem in defense if we will start next season with: KEPA AZPI - RUDIGER/ZOUMA/CHRIS - SILVA - CHILWELL
King Kante 1,643
I am not really worried about Silva for a year and think he makes a lot of sense. I say this because as a CB pace isn't actually all that important if you're positional play and reading of the game is good (this is also partly the reason I give AC some leeway compared to Rudi and Zouma who are poor at this but have pace.) The only time it causes real issues is when 1) You play a high line (this could happen next year) 2 ) Your pace completely drops off, this happened to JT at the start of the title winning season but I think he was 36/37 (however as Silva was a quicker player this shouldn't be as drastic.) 3) You get caught in 2 on 1 situations, however these normally lead to shots on goal anyway. Obviously this isn't a medium or long term solution but with the issues we have it isn't a bad band aid. As for the other signings, Chilwell looks like he is coming. I know his reported fee is lower (£50m) than it looked at one point but, boy, I just do not rate the kid. Sure, he is usable but there isn't anything about him that makes me think 'wow' so at the reported prices of others I would've just gone for one of the other LB's on the market. That said, I will shut up about him now until October and hope he proves me wrong in that he is a slightly above average PL LB. Hopefully Havertz will get over the line as that signing will be the most exciting since Hazard. After that it will need to be GK without any question. Here I am also happy to roll with someone like Foster if it means we can get someone better down the line. That said, if Martinez's situation at Le Arse goes south, I think we should make a serious play for him as he wouldn't break the bank and was seriously impressive once he came in for Leno. After that the concern will be the dregs, there are now so many. Hopefully we will get some takers as I would put it at about 11 players that need to go: Kepa, Emerson, Baba, Zappa, Moses, 1 x Rudi/Zouma/AC (pick your poison), Barkley, Baka, Drinky, Kenedy, Batsh*t That is also before you get to players like Kante and Jorgi who are good but have questions over their positions. Pizy 18,952
Yeah, the battle for those central midfield spots is going to be very interesting. Since it look so like Jorginho is staying we have he, Kante, Kova, Billy, Mason, Barkley, and RLC all vying for those two spots next to/behind Havertz (fingers crossed). I mean, surely we have to be looking for buyers for one or two of those?

Popular Post! Vesper 30,224 Posted August 21, 2020 Popular Post! Share Posted August 21, 2020 I simply do not see what Lampard sees in Chilwell over Reguilon, especially at the crazy price difference. Surely we could toss some extra quid in to RM to get them to back off the buyback clause and STILL be nowhere near Chilwell's cost. Reguilon just looks far more polished and finished, and they are the exact same age basically and the exact same size. Reguilon just seems more technically skilled and pacier, and judging off what I see on a deep dive, he also has a great motor and doesn't coast. I think him being English and well used to the rigors and grind of the PL play a big part. We really have to get our defensive signings right this summer. Perhaps Frank and the club view Chilwell as less of a risk since he has played in this league for years? Who knows. Maybe they just think Chilwell has the higher ceiling. I'm going to reserve judgement until I see him play for us a few times. The price isn't nearly as crazy or ridiculous as it looked like it would be. If it's £50m that's the same thing City paid for each of Walker and Mendy. Cancelo was even more. AWB cost £50m to United and he's nearly useless going forward. I think it's a fair enough price for Chilwell when you consider his contract length, age, nationality, and the fact that Leicester are a rival for top 4. Vesper 30,224
CB's left who we still have been linked with during the last 2 weeks no real order José Giménez <<<< I think he will be too expensive, I just cannot see Atleti letting him go for anywhere near a reasonable price, unless (and I so doubt thsi happens) Simeone leaves, and even then, why would they sell him? Milan Skriniar <<<< Conte REALLY doesnt rate him, complete freezeout, I think we can do business via a swap + cash IF Conte doesn't get sacked (IF Conte is sacked as well as Sarri, then our last 2 managers have now so fucked our sales plans via getting cashiered) Lewis Dunk << anything over £25/30m or so is just not worth it, English tax be damned, he turns 29yo in less than 3 months, and he is no Thiago Silva genetic freak Thiago Silva < I am all in for him as a stopgap he is the second best CB on the planet over 33yo, after Ramos (who is a year and a half younger), and has a year left in his tank from all that I have seen. Thiago looks and plays like he is a 30/31yo, not a 35yo who is soon 36 and for next year Dayot Upamecano <<<<<<< a €42 million release clause, which will be active as soon as the summer 2021 window opens, he surely must be a top target next summer I do not think I am leaving anyone else as all these are still linked, and players like Ginter are off the board in terms of any rumours
