If we do not sign Havertz, just sign Aouar. Cheaper and slower version of Havertz, but more consistent

would be such a disappointment not to get him at this point and settle for a lesser player... still 90% certain we’ll sign him

So if the pattern holds, yesterday and today we've heard a bunch of updates, so now it'll go quiet for a week. Then we'll hear "Chelsea and Bayer are in talks for Havertz. Personal terms agreed but still working on a fee between clubs."

Again and again and again until the end of time.

That's a nice response to inpatient pricks.

For me Havertz is done deal for more than a month now and I don't even bother with reports.

Good excuse to getting the posts count up :cig::ph34r:

When will people realize that United don't need a player like Havertz?

What? Player like Havertz as in an already very good player, potential one in a generational attacking player who can play in 4 or 5 positions: LW, RW, CAM, CM and CF, who had scored 18 goals last season and 20 the one before in a high standard league all at the age 21? What team doesnt need a player like that? I mean is United's attack really that good that Havertz wouldn’t play? Even if it wasn't a necessity to not have any interest or think he would be a great signing, even for United, would be a huge mistake. They wanted Sancho so I dont see why they wouldn’t want Havertz or have an interest either. Similarly both are attacking players, with good goal and assist returns, different playing styles but again don’t get what you mean they ‘don’t’ need a player like him.

Regardless of if they wanted him or not, the longer we fuck about for this fee, the more likely another team, be it a PSG or a City or a Juventus or a Barcelona or somebody, has to swoop in. Just give then 75-85m and get it done. Simple as that.

Havertz may be versatile to play in several positions but he doesn’t excel in all of those positions. United need/want a specialist RW and Havertz isn’t that. Otherwise, don’t you think they would have made a move already? They are still going after Sancho, who is obviously their #1 target. Moreover, if United are already reluctant to pay 120 million or whatever the upfront fee is for Sancho, then it is very debatable whether they would even do the same for Havertz when the fee difference is not that big.

While I would be happy if we do get Havertz, it wouldn’t be the worst thing either if we don’t get him, because that would allow us to spend the money on more pressing areas!

Marina is working her magic. I read somewhere that there's a potential domino chain that starts with us signing Kai and ends with Roma signing Jorginho, so that would be nice if she could pull that off.

Obviously you don't want to haggle too much where 10m breaks the deal but there is certainly a middle ground to be found. I suspect we will have an agreement by the end of the work week.

we buy havertz €85m, leverkusen want use the money to replace with patrick schkik €30m from roma, and after that roma use the money to buy jorginho for €35m. so,,it's up to us now if we want jorgi sold this summer...lol

I do agree the fee is rather high and that money could spent elsewhere. But as Jype alluded to above, who are we to tell Leverkusen how much they should sell Havertz? We are just the buyer, they own Havertz and he still has a few years left on the contract. If the situation was the other way round, we would be aiming at getting the most out of the deal rather than selling the club's main star player at a discount, regardless of the pandemic.

As for the pressure from the big price tag, well, that is another discussion altogether. 3 of those names you mentioned above are all at Barcelona and they were just dumb in spending that money for them without having any idea how to use them. Don't think the same can be said about us. Joao Felix, I think, has had some decent performances but he joined the wrong club.

Leverkusen are well within their rights to ask for whatever, but if they don't sell now, he'll have only one year left on his contract next summer  and risk going to Bayern for free. And Leverkusen didn't make Champs league so thats another 40-50 million they could have had in their books lost. They're the ones at a disadvantage and I really don't want us to just pay 100mil for him like that. There's also a level of pressure that comes with that price tag that I don't want him to have to face. The English media will eat up any mental weakness and harp about the price tag forever.

But if we are off an agreement by 5 million and the total price comes to 85mil we should just get it done, as it is worth it to make sure players like Barkley don't have a chance to start a game for Chelsea.

That is debatable. They are at different stages of the career but we managed to get like 100 million for Hazard last summer when he had only 1 year left on his contract and that is with only 1 club interested. Who is to say Leverkusen won't get a similar fee next summer if multiple clubs - e.g. Real Madrid and Bayern - are interested? Leverkusen could easily start a bidding war that would drive up the price. Had it not been for the pandemic, the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern would have gone for Havertz and potentially driven the price up even more.

Havertz is no where near Hazard's level when he was with us, both in footballing ability or marketability. We too are a much wealthier club that didn't need to sell to buy players. So I expect people to bleed when they come to buy Chelsea's best player while Ajax, Liepzeg and Leverkusen best players should go for less.

And currently we are fortunate that the pandemic has prevented a bidding war, which has given us an advantage. Wouldn't it be smart to press our advantage (because of the pandemic) rather than act like all is back to normal.

I don't know, maybe I'm just thinking too business like but saving 10-15 mil could be the difference between keeping Kepa for another season and buying a fresh goalkeeper.
