Kai Havertz

Pretty familiar pattern emerging. Every couple of days we get a news dump suggesting everything is close. Then we get news saying not so fast and it isn't that close.

If he's as keen to come here as many journalists have reported I don't know why he is agreeing to play in the EL. He should be telling Bayer that he wants everything sorted ASAP and leave like Werner did.

A Leverkusen fan wrote the followings at Redcafe’s Havertz thread: (he replied someone said something like EPL has tighter space than Bundesliga blah blah blah)

“I disagree completely. The EPL used to have higher pace but that was primarily due to most English teams kept playing football that was tactically outdated. Bottom and mid table teams are still doing that while the top teams have finally made their homework and adjusted their playing styles to modern approaches (high pressing, counterpressing, fast transitions, controlled build up instead of rushed box to box action and longballs, etc.). The main reason for that is that foreign top coaches joined the league (Klopp, Guardiola, Sarri, Conte, Hasenhüttl, etc.) while some of the old guard finally left (Wenger).

Still, teams in the Bundesliga press much more ferociously than their English counterparts which means that there's significantly less space for midfielders. Fabregas exemplarily said that when Özil signed for Arsenal. And no, I'm not comparing him with de Bruyne, I explicitly said that he would be the best CAM in the EPL if it wasn't for the Belgian. But that's also because currently, there's not really an abundance of great attacking midfielders in England.

However, I think you underrate him because his playing style is rather subtle than spectacular - his type of player usually gets more love from Spanish/Italian fans than British ones. You need to watch closely to understand why he's so good. His movement, timing and problem solution in tight spaces is outstanding. I don't think there's another midfielder currently in world football who's so pressing resistant and confident in his passing while simultaneously posing such a goal threat. His finishing in the box is downright exceptional. He outperforms his xG by quite a margin which usually only few players with high goal output accomplish. All the while maintaining 85% passing accuracy although he played almost a third of his matches as a striker. De Bruyne exemplarily is at 81% passing accuracy and significantly underperforms in terms of xG, suggesting that Havertz chance conversion is already better than his.”

German league has some of the worst defending in top leagues. There is so much space its just funny. Sounds to me whoever wrote this is big fan of Buli and made this quite subjective.

There is never ever a player gonna get this much space in England, Spain or Italy as they get in Buli.

Relax...

It was the same with Werner.

No £54m Chelsea deal in place for Werner, claims RB Leipzig director

“We haven't had an exchange yet,” he told Sky Sports Deutschland on the 24-year-old. “Accordingly, we have nothing to report. Timo Werner is a player for RB Leipzig. He signalled a few weeks ago that he was busy with a transfer. Until now nothing is done.

“We are concentrating on the final sprint in the league. We want to qualify for the Champions League. That is the only thing we are currently discussing with Timo.

12 days later.

OFFICIAL: Chelsea sign Werner

Chelsea have announced the signing of 24-year-old RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner on a 5-year deal. The club note that he will join the Blues in July and is still to pass a medical.

We pulling an Arsenal here offering amounts we know they won't accept?

Nah. I think 80m€ is the market value and enough specially with corona. We are sticking to our guns knowing the player wants to come and it's in bayer's best interest to keep him happy so that he can give his best in Europa too.

Falk now saying the same thing. Bayer are telling him to play EL (as you would expect them to). Again, if you're Havertz why do you play? Tell the club you want to go and come to an agreeable fee.

I've got so invested in this saga now that I'll be seriously let down if it doesn't happen. Looks like it'll drag on for a few more weeks at least. <_<

Hope the move fails.

The unhappy player thing is always overblown I think. Especially with a player so young and especially when he'll only have a year on his contract if he is made to stay. Bayer forcing him to stay just fucks them. They will get nowhere near what we can offer now and they'd probably be watching their crown jewel moving to Bayern where he'd haunt them for a decade or more.
