hope his dad is fine and it is not the first time mikel plays for us under enormous pressure, he hasn't participated with his national team for many times that I can remember, because he was injured, he even refused to play at the worldcup despite being named captain... not many are so matured and calm in they're head as mikel, and thats one thing I really love about him, he always states he want to end his career with us, from day one and he never said he was regretting not joining manboo, the best thing about it actually is, I believe him...

so kudos and hope his dad comes back healthy...

Statement on Mikel reports

Everyone at Chelsea Football Club was very concerned to hear that John Mikel Obi's father has been reported as missing and possibly abducted.

We will give Mikel and his family our full support at this most difficult time.

What a legend :o

To play such a brilliant game with something so big on his shoulders- amazing! It really shows his chatacter to fight on and do his job despite this large saddening circumstance. I hope these bastard that abducted his father is brought to justice, and that he comes back to his home unscathed and with no injuries.

Hadn't realised yesterday that he was under such immense pressure, hope his dad will be OK. I'd admire his attitude to carry on, saying that he didn't want to let down the team and his family.

What a man. I cannot imagine what kind of character it must take to play through something like that and do such a professional job. Above and beyond anything I could ever imagine and the utmost respect to John Obi. Really hope everything works out, something similar happened with Joseph Yobo's Dad I think and, although never offcially, I think a ransom was paid because he was released 10 days later unharmed. Fingers crossed this all ends well. Kind of puts football into perspective doesn't it?

He shouldn't have played the stoke match. I pray GOD give him the strength to cope with this problem and hope his father is released from captivity alive sooner than later. From the looks of things, Mikel's dad is probably being used as a leverage to claim ransom.. . . it's a sad world we live in.
