he needs a run in the team to get the consistency, even if he has an average match one day.

Hiddink, is the only manager who in the past has given him a serious run of matches rather than the 'in for 1 or 2', out for '3 or 4' with sometimes an appearance from the bench others seemed to do with him.

Ancelotti as well, tbf (I know his hand was forced with Essien's injury problems but still). That Ballack - Mikel - Lampard midfield was pretty effective.

Scolari featured him heavily as well.  He was the key to the team at the beginning of the season when we were successful.  Unfortunately, teams started marking him out of the match and Scolari had no plan B.

Just now, James said:

I like the fact that he's composed on the ball and able to pass quickly  (unlike Matic) but Jesus for a defensive midfielder he's poor at defending when we're not sitting deep. Just so slow and lethargic, It was so easy for Barkley to turn him.

He has the soul of a playmaker. His passing at times is quite impressive.

Barkley is a fantastic player too.

I know in there past I have been critical of Mikel, especially when watching him play for his country, he seemed so dynamic then and so utterly ridiculous for us, but since Guus has arrived - just WOW at his transformation!

Im now sitting here feeling so sorry for the lad, having this type of performance in his locker all along and never being allowed to use it.

I honestly think he's a contender for Player of the season right now. I know, that's a massive turnaround - but he has been simply amazing, like a new signing.

Yes, occasionally he still lets people ghost past him - but that's just how he is. So can't beat him up too much on that - when he offers so much more in midfield.

Guus has resurrected his career from nowhere :)

If only he was quicker and more agile and had better reactions...it takes eternity for him to turn 180 degrees.

But as I know he was AM as young player and I guess that is stopping him from ever being realy top DM.

But he was quite good past few games. Does simple things and does them well.
