There is a diff in saying that at the start of the season when you have CL to look forward to vs when you have been dumped from CL and europa league is the only trophy that your fans can look forward to that year. Fans travelled to czech Republic, Romania, Switzerland, Russia and holland for the competition. How do you think they feel when players say such things before games.2. As if his words were not enough, mikel put in absolutely shite performances to back up those words. Mourinho is not disrespecting the trophy, he is simply setting his sights on bigger targets. Mikel said he "couldn't motivate himself" for Europa League matches. That's a kick in the nuts for the fans, isn't it? £80,000 a week and he can't motivate himself for Thursday night football? I'd play for that amount every year and I wouldn't need any motivation. Mikel's only competition is "no-knees" Essien and to some extent Ramires who would be out of position at DM. Mikel is our only decent defensive midfielder, and the fact that we did not go for another DM and refused to sell him says a lot about what Jose thinks of him, imo.
