CHOULO19 24,332
I did not like his performance last night. he tried to go forward too much and ended up out of position when we lost the ball which is always scary because you can't rely on Ramires to hold a player up or delay the opposition attack. Not that it should matter but most fulbacks have a better record than that. Though Ramires and Sandro are actually very similar, i do rate Sandro more at his duty. But Ramires has done very good. However i don't want both of them in the double pivot, cannot be too similar. I think what we need is someone who covers a lot more and has much better positioning, Tiote and Sandro don't do that, they are more ball winners, but are very good at it. Ramires seems to be our ball winner who gets about the pitch. However Mikel seems totally useless in the midfield and is usually the fault in the midfield. Stats will not convince me, it's a team game, different team you get different outcomes for each player it's a fact. However you might laugh yes but someone who covers for example is Gareth Barry, yes i know he can be quite mediocre, but he does do his job very well, that's why City can bomb forward all the time.Okay now look at there game today against Spurs, Spurs where 1-0 up, AVB stubborn bastard still plays highline, even though Mancini has brought on Kolorov and Maicon, so there's more options for Yaya Toure and David Silva to pass too.So Gareth Barry stays back and covers, and he's really good at it, that's why he plays for Man City still. He's a vital player for them, even though he's an average tackler and gets skinned at times.Mikel does nothing but stand there, leave his man unmarked which people wave off all the time. His positioning worries me at times, i think we need that player to cover, although Ramires can be useless when it comes to passing, but he has gotten better, i have faith he can still become a better player for us. Popular Post! TorontoChelsea 4,064 Posted November 11, 2012 Popular Post! Share Posted November 11, 2012 Partnership in the double pivot is looking very very promising. Both are only 25, so they could be a main part of our squad for the next 5 years. The problem is not their quality, it's that they, or rather Ramires, doesn't bring the needed skills to the double pivot. You need someone there like a Xabi Alonso or a Modric to be able to create chances and to open up the field. When Ramires gets the ball, he runs it up and hands it off to Mata or Oscar who have to drop back deep to collect the ball. If we are looking to play a ball-control, passing game, having a central midfielder who doesn't control the ball or pass well like Ramires is always going to be an issue. Mikel can play and play well in any system. Today, Mikel was very good in the first half and then had a poor stretch in the second half. He can take players on with pace and then pass the ball, but he's not Zidane or Dembele who are very good midfielders at doing that. You always need that deep passing player, this is my opinion although i have faith in ramires, i realistically think we will need two new DM's, could be wrong but that's what i think. He also isn't dribbled past a lot which is also good compared to Mikel and Toure. Only thing that he needs to improve is not getting dispossesed as much (Mikel has a lower dispossession rate than Sandro by 0.4). Also Tiotes stats are rather pathetic compared to Mikel's, I thought he'd be a bit closer to him with some stats. Especially the hype he gets on here by some people, looking at each others stats and seeing Mikel is miles ahead with some is crazy. Last season under AVB his passes where fucking brilliant, he was pulling the strings just by simple passes, like against Laverkusen when we won 2-0 or 3-0 can't really remember, he was surrounded by about 5 players then he would chip it up for a perfect pass towards Mata, and then Mata, Anelka, Torres are up against two people. He does have a nice first touch, he's a good safe player, but he's not the player i want on my team when the other team have the upperhand, or when they are on the counter or attack, fair enough the counter he's always going to struggle as he lacks pace. However the best way to describe Mikel is really good on the ball, poor off the ball. Amblève. 4,995
It's doing my head in how quickly some people change their opinions, not particularly talking about this place, more about Twitter etc. Firstly, it was them saying Mikel should play more offensively (because he doesn't add anything when we're attacking bla bla bla). And suddenly when Mikel is being given more offensive instructions they're, all of a sudden, saying he should be more defensively minded. I mean, where's the logic?!Mikel has been a monster, especially in the last couple of games, and I can't even express how happy I am that Chelsea have this lad on their roster. robdog and OneMoSalah
CHOULO19 24,332
I think RDM figured that with Ramires next to him instead of Lamps, he can afford to take a few risks and join the attack, I have a feeling he will score soon. Regarding today, he was absolutely immense for 70 mins, then disappeared like everyone else after the equalizer. I have honestly given up on discussing Mikel with some people. Bottom line is, like it or not, he is the first name on the team sheet, and I can't be happier about t.
