But we've already seen with Potter that we move the ball more directly and aren't afraid to have more bodies in the box. Tuchel's issue was his inability to improve our attacking play and attacking players, hence why we relied almost everything on our wingbacks. His possession play hindered our attacking players.

We should not be over relying on James as we had done with Tuchel.

RJ was a huge part of us being able to move the ball more directly tho. Teams double up on him and give us more space in the middle. I still have not seen any attacking player improve under GP.Hence, I think we will need to switch formation in the absence of RJ to have more attacking interplay which in turn could leave Thiago less protected.

Sorry but if Potter is like Tuchel and only has our attacking threat come from the wingbacks then what is the point?

James being out shouldn't be an excuse, no matter how important he is.

I'm more concerned about our defending on the right side rather than the attack.

Whoever plays RCB has to be extra sharp.

The one downside to having such a world class player is it's hard to get anyone of note in as backup knowing that's all they'll be.

It was easier on the left because Chilwell isn't anywhere near untouchable even when fully fit.

Yeah. Need to sign someone comfortable in another position but its not impossible. Spurs had this problem with Kane and struggled with Carlos Vinicius, Llorente, Son covering and now seem to have got around it by signing Richarlison.  We'll have to get in a Simakan type who plays CB and RB rather than a specialist RB

Feel for Reece. Obviously skipping the world cup will be good as a Chelsea supporter but the world cup is what players dream of. Getting to represent your country on the biggest stage is the pinnacle of most careers.

I'm sure he'll have his chances in the future but Fifa really fucked a lot of players having it in the winter. Greedy bastards.

More confident we'll be OK without Reece with Potter in charge. Potter's shown in game adjustments and various formations we can depend on. Tuchel seemed hellbent on making his system work no matter who the personel was.

Time will tell though as Reece is undoubtedly our best player.

Great news. Thank god finally some reason. This desperate attempt to get fit in time was always a nonstarter. Hopefully it has not impeded his long term recovery prospects.
he should get over it. Young enough to see 2 or 3 more phoney wcs

fans have long turned their back to int football, hopefully players also will at some point. I Wonder if we can make some sign clauses to denounce their nt

"James was named in the starting XI by Graham Potter as he returned from more than two months out with a knee injury and excelled for nearly an hour before going down in front of the head coach and having to be replaced. The right-back later left Stamford Bridge wearing a brace on his right knee."

Reece's performance coach posted this. Really wonder what he has to say. Either he wasn't ready or he needed surgery before WC and refused.

It does seem a strange one as I can remember reading Chilwell mentioning last year that initially they delayed surgery and he actually went back into training but broke down again. It seems a bit of a coincidence that seemingly the same situation has transpired with both Fofana and Reece and questions something that seems to be done wrong. Ideally you want them both out on the pitch and in Reece's case, he's hands down our most complete player and we look that much poorer without him, but ultimately given the ages of both, you want them out on the pitch fit and firing for years to come.

If surgery is the fixer in this situation then I think so be it, bigger picture is more important than the next few months.

I am preparing to hear that he is perhaps out for the rest of the season, due to the need to get surgery

ffs

I warned that we needed to buy a bloody RB in the summer!!!!!

I cannot deal with RLC or Sterling filling in for Azpi, and Azpi is shite at this point

somebody better be on the cell phone to Atalanta (Mæhle) and Inter (Dumfries)

Dujon Sterling has been a bust at Stoke, and he may leave on a free this summer

The problem with Reece is the exact same problem Spurs have had with Kane for years.

If Reece is fit, he's an automatic first choice starter so unless someone coming in can be flexible to play multiple positions to a high standard then they are coming in at backup level, which could limit us.

It's why someone like Azpi sitting in behind Reece looks good in principle, until a situation like this where he misses substantial gametime.

I'm just wondering whether Potter looks at someone like Dion Rankine as someone who could perhaps get some play time and opportunities in Reece's absence if he's out for a while again now, to develop into his backup moving forward.

The ACL tendon does not heal itself. Bewilders me how these “medical professionals” conclude the player doesn’t need surgery when it doesn’t matter how much physical therapy they do, the tendon will always be damaged unless treated.

Nkunku will come here and he too will injure the same knee and will need surgery.
