Alvaro Morata reveals reason behind miserable form and makes promise to fans

https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/736917/Chelsea-news-Alvaro-Morata-Premier-League-Olivier-Giroud-Maurizio-Sarri-Man-Utd

CHELSEA striker Alvaro Morata has revealed he struggled to maintain his goalscoring form last season because he was playing with an injury.

The Spaniard arrived at Stamford Bridge from Real Madrid last summer in a deal worth £58m.

Morata got off to a flying start in England, netting seven times in his first seven appearances.

But the goals soon dried up and he eventually lost his place to January signing Olivier Giroud.

Morata claims he was playing through pain in an effort to be selected for Spain’s World Cup squad.

Not even close, i think some of you are forgetting just how bad Torres was!!!

I don't think he's much different to Torres in terms of performances and production for the team. To be honest there's quite a few similarities in both with regards to style, attitude, etc.

The biggest problem with Torres was that the money paid for him at the time was huge and once Drogba left, we were in a position where we had no other option but to play him.

At least with Morata he's proven to be dispensable and droppable, and for that reason I think it doesn't become quite as infuriating. To be honest I think he's a pretty good option to have as part of a striking group and I think he would thrive far more being under the radar as opposed to the main man, the pressure which he clearly struggles with.

The fact still remains though that a top striker that will score us 20+ a season is the biggest need at the moment.

As strange as this sounds his missed chances is the one reason i haven't totally given up on Morata yet, to constantly get into those positions is a skill in itself and that's why i simply cannot put him on the same level as Torres, El Nino just stood static most of the time and we were basically playing with ten men and a stranger up top doing his own thing.

How many times on average in say 5 games did Torres get a genuine chance of a goal? 3 maybe 4 at most, Morata beats that number in 20 minutes vs PAOK alone. As much as Morata frustrates me he doesn't come close to Torres in shitness in my opinion.

As far as the bolded line goes, this might prove to be an unpopular opinion but we really missed a trick not going for Lacazette.

Yeah I remember people having similar frustrations with Cavani, he used to miss a lot of chances

Agree to this. I think there are a lot of similarities to their moaning attitudes and general petulance but Morata does seem more mobile and better in space than Torres.

Lacazette would be ideal. Just to think that we've spent similar money on batshuayi, morata and giroud to what arsenal have spent on lacazette and aubameyang is pretty poor.

I think our system makes it harder for Strikers to thrive in general. We dont really create a lot of chances for the strikers. Our chance creation usually fall to the wide players and midfielders. The strikers feed from scraps.

Icardi happy at Inter, wants contract renewal

https://www.goal.com/en/news/icardi-happy-at-inter-wants-contract-renewal/c5nwmc7ceo5x1oiq0oc1i3x6

Inter captain Mauro Icardi is happy to stay with the Serie A giants and is close to signing a new deal despite interest from elsewhere.

Icardi, 25, has been one of Serie A's most prolific scorers in recent years, having scored at least 20 league goals in three of the previous four seasons.

He is off to a solid start again this year, with three goals in Serie A and a pair in the Champions League, including the winner for Inter against PSV earlier this month.

That output has led to speculation over his future, with reports linking him to Real Madrid in the past and, more recently, Chelsea.

Icardi reportedly has a €110 million (£97m/$126m) release clause valid for foreign clubs, further clouding his outlook.

However, the Argentina international has now revealed his happiness with Inter, admitting he has had interest from other sides, but his desire to play in the Champions League with the club he joined in 2013 convinced him to remain.

"I'm happy to stay here," Icardi, who's current deal expires in 2021, told Sky Italia.

Heh Torres had no pace left when he joined us. Every time he started to show something of his former self, he'd pick up one of his niggling injuries and turn into a snail.

Morata is all pace, good runs, link up play, and poor finishing. He's really good in the air - better than Torres ever was. The most important difference is that Morata can be sold.

It's funny how perceptions go, I think aubameyang and Lacazette are essentially at the same level of Morata: good players, not great players.

Time to call it a day. Nothing has changed and nothing will. Odd goal here and then doesnt change anything.

The white lukaku who can't even finish. All he does is lose the ball. Send him off to Italy in Jan and cut loses.

I think this is being disrespectful to Lukaku who is twice the player Morata is. Where is barbara who had a love-in with Morata and was hyping him up like he was prime Raul?

I think that should settle it. Not gonna improve. And even if he were to go on a purple patch like in his first 10 league games here we knew his confidence would just drop when it matters and he would let us down. Just like Torres, every ball into him is a turnover.
