King Kante 1,643
I have always been a big supporter of Alonso. Yes, I get that due to him being slow he is a real issue in a back 4 but when we play 343 or 351 (which for me is also our best fit formation with the current squad) he is normally very good and more dangerous than most of our AM's. As for things moving forward, I rather see him playing than Emerson or Dave in the lb/lwb role. As for the Summer we obviously need a LB and Telles is looking primed, however Emerson has surely got to be the first guy to go as he has been awful. After that, I would keep Alonso to be LB2 as he would provide depth and give us flexibility to play the 343. However, if a good offer does come in and we can get Telles, I can see the club thinking we'll promote one of the young boys and have Dave cover both LB/RB behind James and Telles. NikkiCFC 8,324
I did not do update in a few months: Alonso starting in the PL: Games 11 won 10 draw 1 loses 0 Only draw came against Bournemouth 2:2 when he scored twice so not his fault he was let down by others. Without Alonso: 20 6 5 9 This is with all the games. Even the ones when he came from the bench like Liverpool and Norwich. kellzfresh

Styl1994 188
Alonso really playing really well these last four League games if was up to me I’ll sign a pacey left back to offer us something different to Alonso, sell Emerson and loan Maatsen to a championship team. Yes most of his defensive problems stem from his pace, his ridiculous desire to play left wing when we are in the opposition half (and so is fucked when we get countered) with brain fart tackles.Slow, gung ho attack leaves space behind and brain farts. Outside of that though hes clearly our best left back. When hes focused he does well enough in the big games. Theres plenty of big games where hes far from a defensive liability. Even at United, city and liverpool. Good in the air too. His major problem is consistency. Did I mention he has brain farts? Magic Lamps 11,692
Got more Disciplined under Lamps. Did not go forward needlessly and only got outpaced despite being constantly run at by Mahrez and Sterling. He will turn 30 between the years tho, we should definitely aim at selling him this summer. For me, the Summer deal to do at LB is to sell Emerson and buy Telles. Vesper

One of our most stupid ever decisions giving him that contract. Emerson at least is just 25. But I could still see Barca or an Italian club being dumb enough to take him off us. I don’t really understand tho why we needlessly hand out contracts this big for players who are so out of their depth here that they would most probably sign for less. Popular Post! SUNZ 155 Posted June 28, 2020 Popular Post! Share Posted June 28, 2020 I hate when this happens. A player who we know is not good enough has a run of OK form towards the end of a season and all of a sudden he's worth keeping, possibly even as a starter etc etc etc. Both Alonso and Emerson aren't good enough and that position needs to be improved massively. Further even if they do, you have to weigh this up against risking CL qualification/A Ropey League win. For me, selling when we did and for the amount we got was the right call. 2) I cannot believe you thought Baka was a good player. I wasn't on here at the time but on another forum I was going ape sh*t when we brought him. Honestly, anyone that watched him for more than 45 mins knew he owed his career to Fabinho. 3) Cannot say Morata was really that bad as we got most of our money back on him. Sure he had the mentality of a 11 year old but when you buy someone for £58m and then get £50m back even when they flop means you have done ok and it should be a lesson learned and not something to beat yourself up about. 4) Drinkwater I think wasn't a good idea but I also think the bloke is either a alcoholic or has mental health issues (possibly both.) For me, he was signed as an expensive CM4 who would help with the HG quota. Obviously he has been a disaster but I think this is due to his problems that they club would probably be unaware of. Without them I think we would've got most of our money (say £20/25m) back for him via a sale if he hadn't gone crazy. 5) Tbf with Alonso, when he got renewed he was playing in the 343 system and he was one of our best players by then for about 18 months. His stats going forward were impressive. Not sure in the context of when he actually signed the extension it was as crazy as it seems now. As for the bid from Real, again it was rumours from 2nd rate itk's. I would say for certain it was true (no need to post any links I have seen them already.) 6) With Willian, even if we did get the £65m bid, we still would've needed him to agree. From everything I have seen from him, he strikes me as someone that will not want to leave England. I think he is too settled. I agree with most of the rest, however I am still hopeful we can squeeze decent money out of Emerson and Zouma so they will be a seen more as squad players that were here for a while that we didn't really lose much by having. Alonso was renewed under Sarri, not Conte, so no 3-4-3 or 3-5-2. It was a blunder, but far from the worst. The turn down of £45m was bigger, but as the board has seen for ages, I have not been on Alonso's arse for ages. He has played far better for months, after sweating the Sarri out of him. Sarri was a shit manager. Most of the players regressed or stagnated under him IMHO. I think this 'he revolutionised Kante' claptrap is 100% tosh myself. As for Eden, Real was talking about £180-190m for Hazard back then and Marina or whoever was saying 200-210m. I also did admit the mitigating factors (CL qualifying and EL win, but like I said, who knows what £180-190m cash would have brought us.) I am NOT going back over the long ago proven £65m offer from Barca for Willian, and zero chance Willian would have turned it down. The FUD posts that persist over this only serve to make their progenitors look obstinate at this point. I already said Morata was mitigated due to the stupidity of Atleti, and Bakayoko as my only cock-up in terms of being happy with a signing who turned out to be shit, which is a damn good record and far better than the board itself. Many people never even admit to being wrong once. There have been other players I was wrong on too, but none that recently. All in all a disastrous period of time for the board. I will never admit to otherwise. If not for the academy and the stupidity of Atleti (Costa and Morata) we would be FUCKED.

Was he ever? Maybe, but I cannot see him as being so this next season when he is 31-32yo Mats Hummels (30-31yo this season) a great example of a decline once he hit 30yo, and some would say before Jérôme Boateng (mostly 31yo this season, was 30 for the first month) He is an even better example of a post 30yo decline, he was arguably (many will disagree) the best CB in the world a few years back, or certainly in the top 5, now he is shadow of what he was when he was 26, 27 or so. I will say that playing with Alaba has helped him a lot, due to Alaba's pace making up for his lack of that. ZERO WC CB's who are 30yo as I type this (Chris Smalling and Lovren are the 2 with the highest value, to show you how poor the quality is there) finally, a sleeper Yunis Abdelhamid (31 and 32yo this season) He did have a world class year, but it is not like he was deep into his 30's and will he repeat it? IF he was 5 or 6 years younger or so, and coming off such a season like he just had I would be bouncing up and down to buy him, especially as he is a left-footer so yes, CB's age a wee bit better than fullbacks and DMF's (especially those two positions) and AMF's and most wingers, but once they hit post 32yo or so almost all decline immensely, the exceptions are very rare indeed
Bobo 58
To Marcos himself: I try to be humble and keep my thoughts to myself, but one of the biggest reasons I am a member of this forum other than being a true Chelsea, is you. You because you are disgrace miserable and because I needed a place to share my comments on how awful you are. I do not care for anything good you did, because I would argue it was a luck or miracle. I really do believe the day you joined was cursed, I would rather watch my team lose without you than win with you. Because of you I am not as happy as I should be when new good players join the club, because I know you will ruin their games. I can't wait to see you leaving the club. Regards, Bobo. P.S I would love to be remembered here for being your biggest hater. If not for anything else.
