CHOULO19 24,332
There is absolute NO WAY he will leave. It makes zero footballing sense because he's been our best defender and the most important part of the best CB pairing and best defense in the league. It also makes zero financial sense because a CB who can perform at the same level that John has performed this season will cost at least 20-25m. Jype 6,398
Chelsea's shortfall of home-grown players has improved the contract prospects of John Terry, Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole. The Premier League club is reconsidering its position on releasing the trio of England internationals in the light of domestic and European restrictions on squad sizes. Both the Premier and Champions League limit clubs' 25-man squad lists to 17 senior 'non-home-grown' players. In January, Chelsea were forced to clip their main Premier League list to a total of 20 professionals as only Cole, Lampard, Terry and Gary Cahill met the home-grown criteria of spening at least three seasons at an FA-affiliated club before the age of 21. After a long spell of uncertainty last year, Lampard and Cole were handed single-season contracts on the recommendation of returning manager Jose Mourinho. Terry, whose ill-considered behaviour has repeatedly drawn the Roman Abramovich's wrath, is coming to the end of a long-term deal in a similar state of doubt. On Mourinho's request Chelsea are set to offer the centre back a new contract, but intend to limit it to a single season on a basic wage of £60,000 a week; less than half Terry's current terms. It is unclear whether Terry will accept such a hefty cut to his pay and status at Stamford Bridge. With Mourinho set to recruit a new starting centre back, the 33-year-old can also expect less playing time if he stays. Lampard turned down a lucrative multi-season offer from Major League Soccer last summer to remain at Chelsea on similarly reduced terms. His affection for the club, and desire to work with Mourinho for another season, is such that the midfielder will accept a renewal. Cole's position is more complicated having lost Mourinho's trust mid-season. Brendan Rodgers is interested in taking Cole to Liverpool on a free transfer and, with Manchester City's own home-grown player quota problems exacerbated by Financial Fair Play punishment, he may have another option in the North West. Friends, however, say Cole is more interested in taking up an offer to play in the United States, with LA Galaxy or New York Red Bulls his most likely destinations. Chelsea are also struggling to find a buyer for Fernando Torres, who has two years left of contract and is resisting a sale. While Abramovich expects some kind of fee for the record £50m signing, suitors such as Internazionale want a loan with subsidised wages.http://www.thesundaytimes.co.uk/sto/sport/football/article1409539.eceIf we are to believe Duncan Castles it would seem like JT will be only offered a one year deal with wages of just 60k a week and it's unclear whether he will accept or move on. Also says Mourinho is trying to bring in a new starting CB (Varane would be my guess) to replace Terry so his role would be much smaller next season if he stays. Chief Executive Ron Gourlay added: 'We are very pleased John, who is an undoubted Chelsea legend, will continue to lead the team next season, as he has done for so many years with unrivalled achievement.
