Sheva. 5,373
Still a very good defender and a great leader. Like the Big Drog pointed out, both Luiz and Cahill play better when he's on the pitch and that's no coincidence.
LDN Blue 7,903
Here's the thing. As a footballer, solely a footballer, John Terry is absolutely brilliant. He's still one of England's best centre halves (albeit, England has no other competent centre halves.), he's proven his commitment on the field this season with goal-line clearances, timed blocks, pushing up forward etc. His positioning and awareness, generated through a life-time of experience, has made him one of the most old-school defenders around. But as a role-model, face of the club and all that publicity, he's f*cking shite. He does some really unbelievably stupid things, almost like Joey Barton. I mean his antics at the Nou Camp were a disgrace within itself and season upon season, there's always something off-field going on.As FB said, there has been many pre-season threads doubting John's ability. In fairness, this coming season that might be more true than before, but I don't see any reason why he shouldn't be here. There's more important areas on the pitch where players should leave/be signed. We've got enough cover in defence to phase out Terry with Cahill, Luiz & Ivanovic. Not to mention we'll be getting a new RB with Bosingwa set to be released. In short, let's wait till we see him perform.
CHOULO19 24,332
He does not have 2-3 years. He is having to take painkiller injections before every game. You can already tell they're starting to take a toll, he has lost a massive amount of pace and speed. He will need to end it soon or he will seriously hurt himself. He didn't have massive amounts of pace and speed to begin with
francozola 2,040
I think he'll be fine for another year but we need to get a proper RB in. Lets not forget that John is most likely going to get a 10-15 game ban beginning next season! If either one of Cahill or Luiz get injured then we'll be in trouble again and will have to scrambleCahill & Luiz (especially Gary) will learn loads from JT as well in terms of organization, etc which they currently lack. Blue Traveler 256
How dare you question Terry?!I for one don't fall into media mind game traps! He is our club captain, leader and legend. End of story!

Wavy Crockett 190
even being on the decline, as a footballer he's still on the same level as Cahill imo.add his great experience and leadership qualities and you'll see why he's one of our most important players. Think he's got at least 2 seasons left as first choice defender and captain, but he'll have to stop playing when injured and sit out League Cup fixtures et cet. diskoviolente 425
There is no doubt about his legacy and his heroics for Chelsea Football Club. But it is time to plan for the future. We surely can´t relay on him for much longer. His injuries will just getting worse. The question is if he accepts a role like Carragher. I think that he still has more to offer than Owngoal "Jamie" Carragher, but we seriously need to make sure that our new centreback-duo is the one that plays a lot more.Luiz and Cahill to me looks like Terry and Carvalho-potential. Jase 43,479
How can Chelsea fans not see what John does on the field for Chelsea? He was the best defender in the world, he still is one of the best. But what John Terry offers is much more than his own performance. Most importantly, JT offers organization at the back and even in midfield. He is an inspiration to every Chelsea player if there ever was one.The role of a true leader on the pitch is very underrated. I know it is a cliche, but the team is not the same without him.Agree with that. Can understand what SHM is saying in that 1st post but also think it has been slightly exaggerated. Yes, his form may have been dodgy in the last few games of the season but remember, he has to play every game with 2 broken ribs because of the Cahill & Luiz's injury and that may have well caught up with him. Bir_CFC 3,455
He's still a beast of a defender. Another thing that he brings that can't be measured is confidence within the team. You know damn right when guys like Drogba and Terry are on the team sheet, the entire team's confidence level rises. We have already lost Drogba and can't afford to loose Terry as well. Those two have so much influence over the entire club that earlier this year, I was very very worried that Chelsea would end up like Arsenal when Drogba and Terry leave, more so Terry. A team with good players but no leaders, teams like that can win games, but you aint winning trophies. Thankfully with the emergence of guys like Luiz and Cahill I am not as worried, but the coming season is still a year too soon imo to phase out Terry. For Chelsea's sake, Terry should NEVER leave the club. Once he retires he should be part of the staff right away, you can't loose a guy like him, you loose half of your identity, half of your soul. He has an impact not only on the goals conceded but the ENTIRE club, from the youth team to the first squad.
manpe 10,861
If every footballer got put under the microscope and judged like Terry for their personal lives and blips in form and individual mistakes, I am bold enough to say that over 50% of professional footballers would fall into the same category if not worse. John is a Chelsea player and an ex-England captain, a deadly PR combination. His parents didn't help either.I'm saying that because I'm a Chelsea fan. If I were a scouser (god forbid), I'd hate his guts.

bloody 209
Very much agree with you but controversy aside, he's one of our greatest legends ever and i'll never forget what he's done for our club, he puts his body on the line and always slaps the badge because he loves the club more than anything.Carragher, Ferdinand, Terry = The end of an era. Same can be said about Lampard, Gerrard and Scholes too i guess although those 3 still have big parts to play at times where experience in the middle of the pitch is huge.I agree tho, our back 4 should be Ivanovic - Cahill - Luiz - Cole. Those 2 in the middle made their Chelsea careers last Saturday. If JT and Lamps carry on for another 2 years tho, i'm still happy because JT is still a great defender and he's still the captain. Everyone has bad games but he never had much pace anyway so he can play for a bit yet iif he chooses to.agreed.but am hoping it's: ivanovic - cahill - luiz - bertrand
Hysteria 159
He isnt finished, but he will play less in the next season because I think Luiz and Cahill will receive a lot of minutes.
didierforever 7,349
I'm going to make this short, sharp and efficient.Terry is too much of a problem(On and off the field) to be a starting player for Chelsea. With the emergence of Cahill and Luiz I believe they should be the starting pair for most matches. They're both young, energetic and fantastic defenders, and Terry should not stand in the way of that.Terry causes to much controversy. His family history (drug dealing dad, stealing mother), smashing a team-mates ex who then had to retire from International Football because he didn't want to play with Terry, the whole racism issue which still hasn't been dealt with, and his captaincy got stripped from him TWICE, and the whole conundrum forced Capello to quit the English job and plunged the team into the abyss.Talking before the final, Merkel said to Cameron: "Terry is not there" to which Cameron replied: "That’s good." Merkel then asked "Don't you like him?" to which Cameron replied: "He's said some bad things."When the prime minister says something like that, you know it's serious. Is John Terry really the person that should be the face of Chelsea?Ask any non-Chelsea fans to tell you one reason they don't like Chelsea and most will say because John Terry is there. On the footballing side, he is losing it aswell. Yes, he occasionally scores goals and makes some class tackles but so do Cahill, Luiz and Ivanovic. The occasional slip has cost us at times (Moscow, Van Persie and Jordan Henderson) and his stupidity almost did (Red card vs Barca). In the FA Cup final, Carroll (ffs) bamboozled him with a step over inside the penalty area and scored. He got nutmegged 3 times in like 20 minutes against the 4-1 defeat against Liverpool. He opened his legs more times than a female in the playboy mansion. He slipped allowing Henderson to score and he didn't pick up Carroll when Agger scored. We need to look at Liverpool for example, Carragher is now on the subs bench regularly and rightly so.It's time to move on and stop looking at John Terry to be the face of Chelsea. At his age he isn't going to get better and his injuries will get worse....................I leave you with this:this has got be one of the worst articles/posts i have read in a long time. terry is our captain, our leader and if you can not respect that then get the fuck out of here. how many goals has he cost us 3-4-5, now tell me how many has he stopped. your whole aricle is on one match against liverpool, and who cares about that match. even ivanovic dint have a good match i dont see any1 berating it. also if u wanna start counting mistakes, do tell me how many idiotic penalties has luiz given(i dont have to think much and i can remember atleast 3).on your point of MOVING ON FROM TERRY TO LUIZ-CAHILL partnership, i would like to tell you this - defensively we sucked against bayern. we so easily could have conceded 2 maybe 3, even 4. One of our worst defensive performances came in the napoli match and who were the cbs? i am not saying that they are bad or nothin but definitely not good enough to replace terry.every club, scratch that, every sports team has its face, its talisman, and ours is terry(and was drogba). when he is there on the pitch we look confident and assured. he is the true leader and inspires confidence.the guy is not a saint and has done a number of foolish things but still he is our captain. who cares if "the other clubs' fans hate us because of terry", they can go and jump in a pool of shit.not a big fan of terry (believe me) but your post sucks. Superblue 6,372
It may now be out of his hands - cahill and luiz were superb in the final particularly when considering both weren't fit. They have felt the big game experience now and the feeling of winning and puts them in good stead for our future pairing. The big issue will arise if Terry is found guilty this summer because if he is the FA will throw the book at him - probably looking minimum 8-10 game ban. By the time he's back IMO he is no longer in a position to walk back in our side and will struggle if luiz and cahill are pushing on and playing well.I love John Terry and he will always be a legend but i do feel unsympathetic towards him and his off field ill discipline.
