Looking beyond the bitter verbal exchanges, its clear that Mourinho is the most flexible and capable tactician in the Premier League. When the pitches are in decent shape and his squad isnt heavily affected by suspensions and injuries, he sets his teams out to play dynamic, attacking football.

When conditions are against the players or his side are failing to conjure their best form, he simplifies things. He doesnt mind appearing unfashionable in order to cope with the unique challenge of a wet, windy Tuesday night in Stoke.

That is one of the key differences between Jose and the self-excusing purists he jousts with domestically; he builds his teams around an infectious battling ideology rather than handing players a manual detailing the trajectories of passes they can and cannot play. As a result, they fight for him and for the cause

Now Chelsea, City and Arsenal all had excellent spells last season were everything was going good and we were playing great stuff, we all also had spells were things weren't going so great.

When things are not going good THAT is when the quality of the man in the dugout comes in, that is when he really has to earn his money, that is when even a minor mistake in the tactics can be the difference between a crucial draw or a costly defeat, or a vital win and unnecessary draw, and most importantly off all, that is where Mourinho showed he was not only miles better than Pellegrino and Wenger, but on a completely different planet. The latter two looked clueless last season when things were going shit, whereas Mou knuckled down and made sure we still found a way to win.

It's not that hard to bask in the Sun of your team's good form, even we looked irrestiable under Scolari for a while, its who can stand up and be counted when things aren't going great, that's when the true test of a manager comes to the fore, Mourinho past the test, Greenie, Arsene and Brendan failed.

That's a bit harsh.

We have a first 11 that walked the league pretty much last season. The only way to strengthen that is with absolute worldies. Name me one worldie who is available and not at a ridiculous price. It isn't as simple as going out and buying this player and that player. Cut him some slack.

Barca won everything yet they are strengthening. Man_utd, city, Arsenal are all strengthening or looking to do so. We shouldn't make the same mistake as in 2011. Had we signed half the AMs we've now after loosing Deco and Ballack back then, we wouldn't have declined for the next two/three years. Only a miracle saved us in 2012. Imagine what would've happened had we not won the CL . All our English competition were hoping for our failure that year, it'd have been such a blow. CHELSE SHOULD NEVER EVER LET SOMETHING LIKE THAT EVER HAPPEN AGAIN.

There are no decent prices. Monaco just paid Lille 14m for Adama Traore, age 20, who was MVP of world cup U20, but has only ONE! professional season in his career so far.

All decent players get sold for at least 20m. There will be no world class talent available for decent price, unless that guy is on last year contract or sth. And you cant wait 5 years to catch such player.

Im sure there are players Mourinho likes alot. We should go all the way to get them.

Doesn't have to necessarily be a world class player, just players that add to us and give us more tactical flexibility and strengthen us, take for example United in 2007, they just won the title and brought in Hargreavs, not exactly world class but improved the team, gave them a new dynamic defensively and was a vital part in them retaining the title, am I expected to believe that profile off player isn't out in the market somewhere?

Ultimately we ourselves are living proof off the danger off getting to comfortable, the way to stay on top is to keep evolving when on top, if we win the treble next season including the league with over 100 point's I will still want us to enter the market and strengthen/evolve the squad with 2-3 player's.

Fabregas at 27 mill and Costa at 32 mill. That is buying serious talent at decent prices. It doesn't have to be under £20 mill for example to be a decent price. I see all the names fly about. Maybe the clubs don't want to sell. And if they would sell it would be ridiculous money. Oh we should buy this player or that player. It just isn't that simple is the point I am trying to make and I think some people should cut Jose and the club some slack.

You have totally misunderstood the point of my post. I have not said don't buy players. As I mentioned in my reply to BlueLyon. I'm simply making the point it isn't as easy as grabbing this player and that player as some people seem to make out when slating Jose and the club for not having brought anyone in. The thing is not easy to improve our team other than paying crazy money to get a world class winger. Can't Think of reasonable target

Far from signing the two or three he repeated on a number of occasions, all we've done is replace the departures ... which isn't very encouraging right now. Hope it picks up.

Even so, the lack of activity coupled with Mourinho's reluctance to rotate what is already a small squad is making me a little concerned. I haven't kept up with when the US tour begins etc but proper pre-season is not far off and thus far there are few genuine links with players we need. I guess we can always pull a rabbit out of the hat like last season with Fabregas, though.

Really hope he doesn't become the new Wenger, as in being too cheap and refusing to pay fees for players. Can't help but think the Falcao was a deal to help get another player Mendes controls. We'll see.

I'm not worried, anxious maybe, but I know Chelsea. When they are ready to sign someone, you will be pleasantly surprised. All these overpriced surplus being paraded around are surplus to requirement in their respective clubs does not inspire me at all. Who woulda thought the likes of Zouma, Aspi, Oscar, Harzard, William were all going to become world class players three-four years ago. Patience people, patience.
